Spoiler: Original post Not a huge anime fan but I like Attack on Titan and recently saw two trailers for anime stuff on Netflix I wanted to share... This one is a movie. Same production studio, director, and score guy from Attack on Titan so the bar is set pretty high here. Music in the trailer is great and looks very beautifully animated
I like Anime but I only dabble Death Note Attack on Titan Demon Slayer FMA Brotherhood One Punch Man Blood of Zeus Castlevania and DBZ but not sure if that counts
Not too heavy in anime. Do watch: AOT (mainstay) OPM DBZ Arcane (perfect) Probably starting Demon Slayer/Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood/Cowboy next
I basically just looked at the top shows on IMDB that were anime and watched them. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Attack on Titan, Death Note, and Cowboy Bebop are all fantastic and I was pretty staunchly anti anime for whatever reason before I checked them out
Thats more than dabbling lol More or less what I do, if I watch an anime it has to be quality Weve come a long way from 2015 tmb
Watched Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf on Netflix and thought the animation style was perfect for telling that story, and it’s made me want to dip my toes into Anime to see if I vibe with it. Figure I’ll watch the first episodes of Cowboy Bebop and Attack on Titan tonight then go with whichever one grabs me
That’s a great starting list. Demon Slayer is straight heat. The animation is remarkable. You should watch Jujutsu Kaisen. It hit the scene with insane hype just like Demon Slayer. I’d bet you really like Vinland Saga as well. Medieval story based on Viking lore. Chainsaw Man is likely to be the next big show once it finally airs.
Have watched Attack on Titan Demon Slayer Arcane One Punch Man Dragonball Z Death Note I just started the show Dr Stone I'd like to watch at some point Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Jujutsu Kaisen Vinland Saga HunterXHunter Maybe Black Clover or My Hero Academia
I’m telling you guys you’re missing out if you don’t watch Kajii Ultimate Survivor. Squid Game basically ripped them off.
Probably should add both of those to my list. Both get pretty good reviews and are on most best anime list. I read a blurb that said if you enjoy Dr Who you'll like Steins;Gate
I'd highly suggest Dr Stone. Fun show and actually pretty informative and educational. The entire world sees a green flash of light and everyone becomes petrified in an instant. 3,700 years later two friends wake up one being a hypergenius scientist and he starts to try and rebuild civilization. Fun little show
Anime is great but weebs are the worst. It is possible to be a normal person and like anime. Really good anime is hard to beat for story telling. Some of my favs in no particular order: My Hero Academia Sword Art Online Overlord Re: Zero Demon Slayer Attack on Titan Does Avatar Count? Original Avatar and Legend of Korra are great One Punch Man Death Note My to watch list: Neon Genesis Evangelion Log Horizon No Game No Life The Rising of Shield Hero That Time I Got Resurrected as a Slime Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Mushoku I found that for what ever reason I kept getting into Isekai
Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro from 1979 is a GREAT anime film that’s still on Netflix I believe.
I’ve continued down this path a bit now. Enjoyed (realize some of these aren’t true anime) Attack on Titan Berserk - movie trilogy and 2016 Blood of Zeus Castlevania Witcher - Nightmare of the Wolf Meh Death Note (finished) Disliked and quit: Full Metal Jacket Brotherhood (stopped after 30. Really wanted to like this but just didn’t at all) Cowboy Bebop (2) Fate Zero (2 or 3) Elfen Lied (3) JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (6 or 7) I’ve figured out that I enjoy extensive world building in a fantasy setting with monsters and extreme violence — and main characters that don’t annoy the ever living shit out of me. Also find myself curious about Manga. Berserk was cool but absurdly unsatisfying due to being unfinished. But it’d be like $300 just to buy the complete digital collection? That seems crazy
Yeah I found a website literally called readberserk.com that has the entire collection for free after reading your post. Still seems like a really expensive hobby if you're into actually owning the digital copies or collecting physical copies. I guess the sheer number of volumes caught me off guard more than the price/per ... but makes sense I suppose given how illustration-heavy they are. This is all new to me Edit: Also oh good. Just noticed a banner at the top stating the author passed away. Guessing this is actually unfinished and will stay that way
Highly suggest everyone watch Neon Genesis Evangelion. It can be too soul crushing for some but it's a helluva perspective changer. It's short too. Give End of Evangelion a go after you finish it too.
Some good lists here. Started watching One Piece recently and really like it, but there’s just so damn much of it. I’ll add that Food Wars is real good if you’re into cooking at all.
Food wars was awesome before they gave up on it and it went to shit. It's criminal what they did to the manga.
Most anime is trash, but what's really fun about it is the breadth of it. There's not a ton of scrutiny to it, and a lot of low effort pulp goes in to it, so in spite of the sea of crap there's also a bunch of experimental, creative stuff that wouldn't get picked up for otherwise expensive, and therefore standardized, TV stuff. There's some pretty cool, heady stuff out there to find with a bit of effort.
If I were a dad and a bigger nerd, I would consider watching Haikyuu with my kid. Tons of lessons there about growing up through team sports, and learning how to overcome your own limitations, even where others have failed. And, even, when to hang it up. Real wholesome stuff
If you haven’t watched Attack on Titan now is the time to start. Last season is currently airing and it’s still great. My favorite anime ever is probably Yu-yu Hakasho. Everything is great about it, except the very end is pretty lackluster.
Ran straight through My Hero Academia over a couple of weeks or so. One of the more tightly constructed and efficient anime that I've seen.
I'm still trying to slog through the first 400 or so episodes of One Piece, so I can't help but admire how MHA just doesn't waste a single episode. Should be the model for future projects. Also dip out of the shonen scene occasionally and loved: Wotakoi Grand Blue Dreaming My Dress-Up Darling
All I know is that younger All Might is supposed to reflect the creators love for the golden age of American comics and that the older version represents the current state.
Aging worldwide #1 superpower dressed entirely in red white and blue doing his best to keep it together in public to keep the order of things. Over extends himself constantly and weakens himself and his status every time he does it. That kind of thing
I haven’t seen too many but I’ve enjoyed most of the ones I’ve watched. devilman crybaby - first anime I’ve seen. I enjoyed and the ending was cool dororo - one of my favorite shows ever. It has the feels and is an amazing story. Goblin slayer - haven’t finished but pretty good. Re:zero - started off amazing but at a certain point in season 2 I lost interest.
I just binged Attack On Titan, season 1 on Netflix. But, that’s all that Netflix has. Is Hulu my best option for the rest of it?
Thats where I watched the rest. If you don’t have Hulu already, apparently you can sign up for a free 7 day premium trial on Funimation which should get rolled into a 60 day Crunchyroll trial due to a recent merger. Found this out by accident last week looking for the newest episodes of Demon Slayer
By the way, if you like manga, consider getting a Shonen Jump subscription. Costs 3 dollars a month and you can read tons of manga. Demon Slayer is on there and completely finished. Also, I’m super excited for what’s coming regarding my hero academia anime. Some really awesome stuff
I’m sort of just randomly hopping into things and this kept appearing in my Netflix recs. Your post made me click. Loved the Outrun aesthetic and twist on pilot/mech relationships. Psychedelic psychological deconstruction sequences were great as well. I tend to multitask while bingeing and you probably shouldn’t during this series because you’ll end up losing the plot due to its designed concealment. Had to read a bit after finishing the movie to make sense of it all, which made it better. Weakest aspects were how annoying Shinji and Asuka could be at times, but I’ve found that’s a common thread in every anime I’ve watched. Like instead of dealing with moments of what could be relatable weakness due to terror or regular human emotional complexity in subtle ways, they ratchet screaming and brattiness up to an 11 Anyway. Enjoyed it enough to check out the Reloaded version before moving on to the next thing
In the home stretch of FMA Brotherhood and it’s tough for me to stop watching. Think I have about 15 episodes left.
