https://www.npr.org/2023/06/10/1181516760/ted-kaczynski-unabomber-dies “Those who are most sensitive about "politically incorrect" terminology are not the average black ghetto-dweller, Asian immigrant, abused woman or disabled person, but a minority of activists, many of whom do not even belong to any "oppressed" group but come from privileged strata of society.” “The conservatives are fools: They whine about the decay of traditional values, yet they enthusiastically support technological progress and economic growth. Apparently it never occurs to them that you can't make rapid, drastic changes in the technology and the economy of a society without causing rapid changes in all other aspects of the society as well, and that such rapid changes inevitably break down traditional values.” “There is no law that says we have to go to work every day and follow our employer’s orders. Legally there is nothing to prevent us from going to live in the wild like primitive people or from going into business for ourselves. But in practice there is very little wild country left, and there is room in the economy for only a limited number of small business owners. Hence most of us can survive only as someone else’s employee.”
As a weirdo that follows this sort of shit, I feel bad. Dude was insanely smart and got lost. I’m not going to advocate for the weird right wingers that have seemingly globbed onto his shit. He legitimately provided great insight into how things operate at ADX with other inmates. Beyond that, putting he or anyone else in Supermax is the absolute definition of submitting someone to cruel and unusual punishment.
No idea how Harbaugh does Twitter but if it’s actually him I could legit see him retweeting some “rip real Michigan man Ted Kacyznski” with obviously zero idea.
ADX Florence is a great place to spend a few years!!!!!! Holds a lotta terrorists, El Chapo, people who've committed serious espionage (China and Russia), etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ADX_Florence
LOL unless he's on tape handing stuff to MBS or China it'd be the equivalent of minimum security summer camp. Seemingly always wondered why white collar criminals were scared of a cushy federal prison for a few years if they'd made their ill gotten gains unrecoverable, it ain't great but name the right price for some federal summer camp prison reality show and I'd do a bit of time
My buddy worked at the prison the DC Sniper kid was at in Virginia. Said he was chill. Idk what you should do with that information
Breach was playing on one of the HBOs recently and I watched it for the first time in probably a decade. Good flick. Dude was very bizarre.
Weird that there is a lot of whitewashing of Ted itt. cool cool he was smart he also tried to kill indiscriminately and was basically a right wing anarchist. but nature vibes and what not!
They are building a road near my cabin so I must send a bomb to the computer science department at random Midwestern university! I am very good at math!
I mean, it’s only me lamenting on this subject. I don’t think it’s whitewashing. I think it’s extremely disingenuous to say it is. But since we’re on the subject, killing Bundy was fucking stupid. Not only because doing so at any level is simply wrong, but he was actively and adequately profiling those with a similar MO (ie, the Green River killer). Confining someone to ADX is cruel and unusual punishment. I’d be curious to hear an argument against that position. Regardless, Kaczynski shed a ton of light on that in his notes and interactions with the people he was interred with. He committed heinous crimes, for sure. I’m not stripping him of that fact. But at the end of the day, what the fuck are we doing as a society if we aren’t legitimately trying to rehabilitate?
Right wingers like him because of his racist manifesto. Young people from all political spectrums are endeared to him because of a shared hatred of modernity.
I think Kaczynski had some good point on a few things. Killing innocent people is bad. Lamenting the death of a serial killer is funny. Solitary confinement is torture. Thank you
I'm pretty sure you meant confinement here and not confident - so I say this to make sure we mark a moment where we agree on something
