The 69 Topps were such a pretty card, it was the card that Topps used this year for their Hertiage set and I spent way too much on boxes because I liked it so much.
I love this shit. I think I enjoy it more because my son likes it so much. Something fun for us to do that we can span the players of my generation to his with. Just bought a game used broken bat signed by Rickey Henderson, Rollie Fingers and John Blue Moon Odom (was on that team that won three consecutive WS with Fingers). Rickey was always my guy growing up so I’m happy to add that piece (JSA). Yesterday we also pulled at 10 graded Rod Carew auto card, and Sheffield and Vizquel Rookie cards in great condition.
Went and bought several hanger packs and boxes yesterday. Got a Khalil Mack RC, several Dallas and Gamecock rc and inserts (Clowney, Ellington, Mike davis), and then a whole lot of filler inserts that I am going to try and team lot to sell. Also got a Don Meredith auto card, and several 60's hank Aaron's that were less than $5 on Ebay. Think I have 8 total now to go with my 91 upper deck auto. Currently hiding receipts from my wife so she doesnt kill me haha
Walmart had 2017 packs and hanger boxes "on special". Looking for mahomes rookies. Havent hit on any yet, but have gotten a lot of cowboys like Dak and Zeke, which is cool by me.
Nice! My boy really just loves baseball so we go mostly on that. Did pull a Bo Jackson autographed AU patch card recently though
Yea I'm debating hanging on to the 2 Mack's, but I have so many other players I collect I could get good trade for it. The Allen is an /25 card and hes hot right now for people wanting his stuff
I hate to rain on the parade but the Mack Dirty Laundry Jersey is only worth ~$5. For whatever reason, 2014 Prizm wasn't one of the more popular sets that year, which is odd because everyone loves Prizm now (especially the colored parallels). Can't find a comp on the Allen Patch /25 because none have sold on eBay and there isn't one listed either. The base jersey (non-numbered) have gone for anywhere from $4-20 (the higher prices being when the product first dropped so they were fluky sells). There are currently a few non-numbered Passport Jerseys listed for around ~$5. My advice would be to try and grade them if they look good enough. I'd want a 10 out of the Mack and a 9 or better from the Allen. Prizm is generally a pretty easy set to grade so as long as there aren't any significant surface scratches it should be a 9 or 10. If you want to sell the Allen now, I'd list it as a Buy it Now or Best Offer and set the initial price absurdly high (like $75-100 seeing that it is the only one eBay has ever seen of the /25 variety) and see if someone comes along and wants to pay too much for it.
Ive bought 6 or so boxes of Bowman's best the last couple weeks. Pulled some fire: Casey Mize Refractor Auto Jared Kelenic Auto Kiebart Ruiz Gold Refractor auto /50 x2 Alex Gorman auto Keston Huira Emerald auto /99 A bunch of other good guys, but these are the highlights.
That's why I was debating hanging on to both. But I already PC the Braves, cowboys. Rodgers, Favre, brees, Mike t, Kamara, mahomes, hill, and kelce. So spread thin, especially when it comes to more expensive cards
It's the sports cards world way of solving the 90s problem of 5 million cards of each. There are only 25 cards made with that particular whatever, and supposedly makes it more valuable).
I have a lot of team lots I'm putting together for sale. None of them are autos or high dollar amounts. Prob 10-25 for each lot. Anybody interested in anything? I have a work buddy buying my Clemson guys, but the rest is fair trade. Higher value cards in a penny sleeve and 3.75 for shipping normally. Baseball and football only.
Also, when yall go to buy anything, double check values on ebay sold listing for example. Value is in what people will buy it for
I loved Bowman when they came back around in the 90's. I choose to ignore that 1989 oversized set. 1992 Bowman was my fav, no telling how many of those I'm still sitting on.
I just dont get into baseball as much. I can enjoy all the football teams and players, but very Braves-centric in baseball.
picked up a couple boxes at target today. shit's expensive. any tips on where to buy? got jersey swatch cards for derrick favors, josh okogie and jerian grant. meh. got a isaiah canaan auto card. meh again. a nice lebron james die cut.
Best way is to skip retail entirely and buy hobby boxes, preferably split amongst your friends that pull for different teams. You can join several Facebook groups that are "for sale" type groups and get better value, except on the expensive stuff like the Luka silver prism or Mahomes RC autos. Ebay also. I like building my PC with certain guys for cheap, but nothing beats opening packs for excitement.
Blowout Cards and DA Card World are the two big online places. Actual card stores are pretty sparse, at least in the Twin Cities.
Pretty much everywhere. Prices change by the minute now thanks to the internet and ebay. Card stores cant compete. Most run online now
If you guys wanted, we could do some box openings via a video like most of those groups, and everybody chip in whatever price for their teams beforehand. A hobby box of good cards is usually $130. My problem is getting them sold if they arent for my PC, as everybody tries to lowball each other to the point of getting under value.
I haven't bought cards in ages, is there a reason a hobby box with 120 cards is $170 and a blaster box with 40 cards is $20? Is there a higher tier of cards guaranteed to warrant more than double the price? Is it pointless to buy blaster boxes?
A hobby box may have 2 autos and 4 inserts whereas a retail box might have 1 of each. Higher investment for a theoretical higher return. It's not pointless to buy blaster and hanger boxes at Walmart or target (that's all I buy other than ebay or fb groups), but the hit rate is lower. You could spend that money from a hobby box and get the mahomes auto you want without sitting on 60 cards you dont collect. Or you could get a saquon, Baker, Josh Allen, and brady, and sell for 2 times the value of the hobby box. It's a lottery ticket, better odds from the Hobby
Still random I think. I'm just getting back into it after 20 years so anybody feel free to correct me if wrong. It's an expensive hobby if you collect, let's say Patrick Mahomes, as opposed to Derek Carr
Do they sell regular boxes stilll? I’m not into the insert/autographed stuff. Do they still sell regular Bowman?
I think it depends on the product, some retail has gems in them, others have dog-shit through and through.
What you've said in regards to hobby vs. retail is pretty much spot on. Value can be found but it is obviously more difficult getting value from blasters than hobby boxes. We all know opening packs is a money pit but you can't underestimate the feeling of ripping some packs open. Prizm basketball, for example, is one product where I'd prefer the retail version for the parallels rather than pay up for the extra autos in hobby... which are just sticker dumps of players in their 2nd-5th seasons. Bowman baseball is another product where I'd rather open the blaster boxes vs. paying for autos of players who likely won't make it to the bigs, although those were very difficult to find this past summer with the Ohtani madness that occurred. Blasters were being re-sold for $30-40 when it first came out.
My current favorite is Walmart and target clearance of 2017 football packs searching for mahomes. Nothing solid yet other than some Juju
Am very disappointed my Walmart and Target do not have this. In fact, the 2017 basketball was regular price. Bullshit
I’ve been thinking of submitting a batch to PSA, just need to determine which cards. I’m thinking of: Sandy Koufax 1/1 Auto Acuna series 2 SSP Gleyber Torres Chrome Auto And now this Judge. Have you submitted before ? Easy enough process ?
Yeah I've sent plenty of orders. It's a pretty simple process, especially when sending a small amount of cards like you're interested in doing. I've mostly sent bulk orders in the past and it took a good amount of time to get them all submitted into their system. With the cards you're looking at sending, it'll be in the Regular submission (15 day turnaround, max value for each card at $499) for $20 per card. Just remember to clearly mark on the outside of the shipment box "15 day service." I'm actually getting ready to send PSA 15-20 high-end cards soon. A couple of the headliners:
