i was a lot younger when i saw it live and hadn't seen it for several years since then. over that time all i heard was how bad the finale was and so all i remembered was it being bad. once i started seeing it on reruns its definitely funny and solid. not a huge flashback type of guy but the concept behind the finale is great and there's a ton of great jokes in it. when jerry first calls up jackie chiles and he's going off on the cheese, and when jerry does standup in prison...those parts are hysterical to me. "hey i don't go to where you work and knock the license plate out of your hand."
I wish they had actually produced that reunion episode. I thought it seemed funny in the bits they did do.
I I've always felt the same way. The ending was just ok, but the episode is hilarious. When Jerry says "so what's the deal with the yard?" I laugh my ass off every time.
I went into the finale with hearing how awful it was so my expectations were incredibly low, but I didn't think it was that bad. Not the greatest episode the show ever did, but not the worst either.
It went out in a very Seinfeldian fashion, which I loved. They stayed true to who they are, which is ultimately not giving a shit about anything.
