Im not going to predict this guy suddenly becomes some all conference player or Bama anything, overall he was pretty mediocre at Auburn. That said, Im going to guess the narrative on him from the fanbase that has talked up players like Kodi Burns, KD Johnson, and countless others would be sliiiightly different if he was gearing up for his sophomore season on the plains
A lot of times a starter/rotation guy leaving means nothing more than the coach “wouldn’t let the shoot enough.”
He attempted 50 more 3’s than the next highest on a team where everyone has the green light. He was 3rd in shot attempts and 11th in fg %.
The real ones will never forget the hype for Jeremy Johnson, to make it hoops relevant he should've won both the Heisman and the Naismith awards.
0 points, 0/5, 0 assists, 1 rebound, 1 TO against Yale Pearl didn't change the offense, but he did continue starting him through his struggles. We played a weak out of conference schedule, like many pointed out, once SEC play started, and we faced completion he wasn't ready for the moment yet. Is what it is. Its best for both sides. I think Im more shocked that bama dropped the bag on him
Im not all that shocked that Oats may think he’s capable of getting more out of Holloway than a coach who has squandered more elite guard recruits than any other in recent history
He's got potential. But his comments above are pretty clueless and blaming others when he sucked makes him sound like a shitty teammate. I'd rather keep him
Jared Harper, Bryce Brown, Kareem Canty, KT Harrell, Mustapha Heron, Samir Doughty, all played guard here under Bruce and had good careers. This is a terrible take. Last few years guard play has been mediocre.
How many of these names would a non-Auburn basketball fan bring up as a standout guard for even the SEC in the last 10 years?
Yeah I’m sure he thought the same about Quinerly. Wasn’t he coming off the bench after spending four years there?
He recruited 2 of those guys from HS? Last good guard he recruited and developed was Harper in 2016?? All others are transfers, yeah? Leaving off Aiden 5* (bust) Davion Mitchell Top 100- Told Bruce to fuck off ended up top 10 pick Mustafa Heron 5* - Told Bruce to fuck off and went to St Joe's Sharreef Cooper 5* - Semi Cheating limited half his career, couldn't keep him on the roster Tyrell Jones Fringe top 100 - Bust Tre Donaldson - Fringe T100 - He sucks Chance Westry - T50 player - Bust Tahaad Pettiford - 5* - TBD Some of those guys, like KT Harrell, were inherited by Bruce
You mean the guy who did next to nothing at Villanova and Oats developed into the SEC tournament MVP? Quinnerlys situation when he transferred to Bama ishonestly almost an identical situation as Holloways
Quinnerly was really really good at Alabama. If Holloway is half the scorer JQ was it’s a home run transfer.
He avg like 8ppg playing 20min last year as a 28 year old. I don't think "half of that" is going to make him a hike run transfer
He was coming off a blown ACL in like 8 months but sure. He was very good for the ‘21 team that won the SEC and SEC tournament. If we get anything resembling that level of play from Holloway I’ll be thrilled.
Okay, so you want a PG who plays 30 min and scores 7ppg? He was better in 22-23, but point Still stands
Calling Sharife a semi cheater is stupid too. He was a classic case of why the NCAA is rightfully cooked
It's the recruiting services fault that all the guards he recruited since like 2016 haven't succeeded at Auburn and left.
Davion left because of playing time. Heron left for personal reasons related to family. Cooper was a one and done from the start. Tyrell was told to leave when he couldn't cut it. Donalson left because he wanted to start and we told him no. Holloway's mom has been shopping him since the midway point of the season and was never going to be ok with being a back up to JP. Bruce massively upgraded at the PG position. Also you do realize damn near every college basketball team loses guys to other schools right? Its always been the most transfer heavy sport. I will give you Holloway and Westry but the rest you have no argument for. You will continue to argue though because you hate Bruce.
Yes, so it doesn't really matter that "it happens to everyone." We've missed for years and haven't been able to keep NBA talent in our roster. Clearly done much better keeping and developing with bigs. It's like 5 vs 0 over the last 7 years. Chuma, Thor, Walker, Broome (even though you relentlessly shit on him), Jabari. If any of those guard hit with the solid wings/bigs weve had since the F4 run we'd probably be better off right now. Guard play has been a massive issue. Recruiting, developing, keeping talent, etc Idk why you can't admit that. Hopefully JP, Denver, Tahaad, can start turning that around for us
Broome plays like a bitch against guys that are more physical than him. It's one of the main reasons he hasn't gone pro already.
