Which I thought was weird, they were key to the defense of KL when Robert Baratheon tried to invade...
Just doesn't seem like they were depicted like that up until this point. Loras was a championship tourney fighter. Defeated Robert B with the Lannisters to defend KL. A kingdom tier house, in their fortress, just doesn't add up for me. But again I realize that the show has to move quickly ...
They've been depicted as one of the top two or three houses in all of Westeros. Idk what that means for fighting but I assume that means they're a pretty tough out overall ...
Randall Tarley is the reason they defeated Robert B, Mace Tyrell was the reason that Robert got away.
At first the plan was to end it around the 70 hour mark. Which would of been perfect (for them) to make it 10 episodes and 7 seasons. But then they got pressure to extend it and make the 7th season into 2 seasons so that's why season 7 is 7 episodes and season 8 is 6 episodes. That doesn't really explain the rushed feeling though
You gotta think Jamie's loyalty to Cersei just took another big hit after finding out she tried to have Tyrion prosecuted for nothing.
Even when olenna told him she was evil he seemed to know it, but was resigned to the fact that he couldn't do anything about it.
I feel like a great twist would be Cersei killing him unexpectedly bc she could tell he was no longer loyal.
I'm thinking he is going to tell her about that when he gets back to KL and she isn't going to care. I'm wondering what the final straw will be but that should be one.
Olenna said it, "she'll be the end of you" or something. Jamie's love for Cersei is going to get him killed.
this end would be a GRRM special for sure However I hope he didn't spend all those chapters showing his character arc just to kill him like that. If the Tyrion stuff doesn't do it for him, perhaps she will marry Euron and expect him to stick around as her concubine.
Tyrion needs to convince Dany that Jaime killing her father was a noble act, and then talk him into coming over to their side because they need a general. yeah right
true, but I think they all hated Tywin in the end and she was probably pleased he was gone, more opportunity for her
This is a direct result of people other than GRRM writing the story/script. If he ever gets his lazy ass in gear and finishes the story I think the plot will, in some ways, significantly depart from the HBO plot.
Until the green fire and Tywin coming to the rescue with his Lannister army, KL was being routed like France. The women around Cersei were prepping their suicides.
She blamed Tyrion for their mother's death and truly felt he poisoned her son the king. She had no proof, but she was convinced.
Whoops I did mean Stannis' invasion. I'm not aware of who the Tyrell's fought for in Rob's rebellion. But in Battle of the Blackwater they teamed with the Lannisters. It wasn't said that they sucked or that their army was particularly weak until that statement by Lady Olenna, which leads me back to my initial frustration of how Highgarden fell so damn easily ...
I had my Baratheons wrong. Tyrell's fought with the Targaryans it looks like in Rob's Rebellion (though game of thrones wiki notes they did serve Rob a defeat at the Battle of Ashford). My main point was they fought with the Lannisters in defense of KL vs Stannis, and that the show hasn't depicted them as a some weakling army up to this point ...
For sure. She hates Tyrion but has never really had a good reason to do so. She never considered that somebody else could be responsible for Joffrey. She won't be convinced that he isn't a horrible little monster no matter what proof there is that the opposite is true. I'm just thinking Jaime will start noticing the cruelty a bit more since his eyes have been opening for some time.
Randall Tarley was the Tyrell's best general, the only person to hand Robert a defeat, so yes they were good but they no longer had the numbers and best general.
I don't know if that's true. She's smart enough to know it could've been any of a number of people. She took it advantage of Joffrey's death to have Tyrion killed.
Good point. She did immediately point at him right after Joffrey died. I doubt she would have listened to any other theories about what happened short of a confession. And even then she still wanted him dead.
The Reach (including the Tyrells) fought at Blackwater Bay. Only the Tyrell army was left to defend Highgarden against the blunt of the Reach's army AND the Lannisters (and the Westerlands).
So if the bulk of the Lannister forces are in Highgarden does that mean the queen and capital city are pretty much very lightly defended? Or am I missing some force that is back in kings landing?
So we are going to assume they'll just be able to march all the way back in time to defend an attack from nearby Dragonstone? I know we are speeding up time but that seems to be a hell of a gamble on Cersei's part if true. Putting a lot of faith in those crossbows
I think the bulk of the army that took Highgarden was the Tarley army + the majority of the Lannister army that had been defending Casterly Rock. Remember Greyworm said something like, "there were supposed to be more, a lot more" then they cut to the Highgarden scene to show that's where the missing army was. Also, they have seemingly sunken most of Danys ships so I'm sure that it was a calculated risk and currently it seems to have worked. Dany is ready to go full Leroy Jenkins (as others have stated in the thread) so the report of this latest blunder may push her over the edge and she will use her fast travel machine (dragons) to intercept the army on the road. House Tarley broke faith so it would be pretty GRRM to have them all melted very soon after.
If she doesn't win an open field battle with the Dothraki horde and at least one dragon then she needs to pack it in and go back across the narrow sea.
I want Cersei's first sight of Drogon to be him getting shot by it, not giving a fuck, and then tearing it into fifty pieces
Also, Littlefinger clearly opened a helicopter assembly line and sent one to each major character. That's my principal takeaway from season 7 so far
They piloted those choppers at the end of season 6 with Varys going all around making deals. They've mastered the technology now
