I don't know why I think it sounds weird to call them "maps". Yea I know it's a video game term but with it being such a sports game I guess I'd expect "arenas" "stadiums" "fields". I'd accept "pitches"
basically whatever rank you hit in ranked matches will be reset soon to the class that you finished in. if you were bronze before, now you're like competitor level II. they changed the ranking system. that's about all.
They take your performance in your 1st 10 games and then compare it to your overall match rating and I think that's how it works. I'd expect a bunch of sand-bagging early so guys can start off with a bunch of goals against worse competition after their first 10 games, but we'll see. I couldn't get out silver II and ended up dropping to silver I at the end.
Final TMB Stats for Season 1 (I think they will reset tonight) Wins 1. CzaBehave - 864 2. black_nole - 398 3. pokes1187 - 253 4. rustincolt45 - 105 5. ravis217 - 40 Goals 1. Patch is available for download, hit option on RL link and check for updates. Isn't auto downloading for some reason.
So I haven't been playing ranked at all...like ever. Didn't think about it till I started getting good recently, then just figured I'd wait to start season 2. Just buttfucking solo standard right now. I stopped after we just won 11-1. 1900 pts on 9 goals haha.
Going to dive into ranked doubles this week. Been pretty much playing 95% solo standard since release so might take awhile to get the rotations down, but anyone want to give it a go sometime soon?
PS4, I am on Husband detail for Vday today, but anytime this week works. Pretty much just playing RL and finishing up Witcher NG+ until Dark Souls 3 drops.
So you guys mostly played ranked playlists then? I spent most of my time playing non ranked for whatever reason.
I basically play ranked so people aren't quitting all the time, nothing ruins a game faster for me than going down or up by 3 and then rotating bots with ppl who then quit because they join a losing game.
Played season 1 all unranked. Started season 2 playing ranked. Ranked is a little better IMO. People just seem more likely to play the objective and go for the win rather than practice their shitty aerials and give up open goals. Obviously you can still get matched with some real fucking turds on your team in ranked though.
I like 4v4 on Wastelands and Coliseum. Total shitshow on the other maps though. I think they are offering it up in the next patch fwiw. Especially if any of the rocket lab maps make the competitive playlists.
For anyone trying to get better, these two videos helped me a lot. If you take 5-10 minutes and run a solo exhibition with super slow ball before playing even just knocking the ball around, really makes the actual speed games seem slower.
Put a little work in today and got up to Champion Elite in solo standard. Had a nifty goal I'll try and upload later if I can remember. edit: I meant Challenger Elite :( . I'm far from Champion
on PC: Challenger III doubles Challenger I solo not a bad start I suppose. I may too many mental mistakes/hesitations on solo
Challenger III solo standard Challenger II solo I get messed up in solo on the corner balls, play a lot of goal sitters and end up giving cheap long goals trying to do way too much out of the corner (center and then try aerial while they walk it in on the other end). I basically have to learn to quit on those and just let them have it.
Apparently I spent way too much time in non-ranked playlists. Getting absolutely lit up on ranked and many, many shots that used to go in are getting saved. I'm unranked though
once they know where you fit, you'll have much better games. they did a great job of measuring your ability. so far i'm in the gold tiers with 3 stripes. not sure if that's the low end, and you want less stripes, like gold 1 is better than gold 3.... i have no idea.
nice! I hope i can make it at least to the elite level. i wonder why they chose blue to be better than gold.
I wish they did a better job of showing your progress at each level. It didn't take too long for me to progress to Challenger III, but it felt like it took forever to get promoted to Challenger Elite after that. At least let me know if I'm on the cusp of a promotion or demotion.
Just started playing One of the hardest parts of starting out is that everyone else sucks too. You keep trying to anticipate someone hitting the ball, and they constantly whiff and fake you out
Sounds like next patch will divide each division into 5 levels so you can track progression in ranked. Psyonix is p great at responding to their customers wants.
Playing with the bots on pro is just infuriating most of the time. Your teammates prevent more goals then they score.
All star seems way easier than pro. I was laboring to beat the AI on pro and am hammering All Star repeatedly.
Are you playing AI so you can learn a little before playing online? I'd recommend just going to the training arena on your own for 5-15 mins and then joining unranked online matches. They'll match you up with people around the same skill level (most of the time at least) so it shouldn't be too crazy. When I play RL, I'll usually pop into the training arena and work on something specific (aerials, wall hits, dribbling, etc...) for a little bit, then run a couple unranked matches until I get the flow, and then move to ranked matches if I still want to play.
Yeah, I generally didn't wanna just hop in since I only started playing yesterday. I'll do the training thing I think. Still real bad with aerials.
Day 2 is probably a little early to worry about your aerials. Obviously doesn't hurt to train though. Honestly, I scored about 75 ground goals online before getting my first true aerial goal.
Before moving to online I'd suggest watching this video. It's not really anything you can practice in training, but just something you always want to be aware of. Nothing pisses people off more than a teammate that doesn't rotate back or have any positional awareness.
Im pretty decent with positioning - I play hockey so just kind of go with that instinct in a lot of ways. My biggest issue is simply judging the ball-to-car. So many swings and misses :(
I've watched a ton of Kronovi and Gibbs' games so I'm actually pretty familiar with positioning. Just need reps.
