Just started behind the bastards and I think I’ve finally found a new show I can binge. Pretty informative and enough humor to not be too much
I really enjoyed this episode from the Underworld podcast. "always remember folks, get paid in cocaine" https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podca...-and-the-cocaine/id1529370760?i=1000617717414
Been pretty deep in You Must Remember This which is about the golden age of Hollywood (roughly defined as 1920-1990 by the creator) and some of the forgotten people and stories that made it such a unique era, good and bad. Particularly enjoyed the Polly Platt and Dean Martin/Sammy Davis seasons.
Need a good recommendation for a good podcast app. I’ve used Stitcher for years and they’re ceasing operations and the app is shutting in a month or two.
I’ve never really given much thought to my podcast app. I use the native Apple app and sometimes Spotify if there is a show only available there.
I paid for the Overcast premium for several years. At some point I ended up back using the native app. I remember it used to be pretty bad but it seems to do a fine job playing podcasts. Maybe I just don't know what I'm missing. My only gripe is that the one bonus feed I subscribe to that I had to link in it will automatically mark the eps as played occasionally even when I haven't played them which is slightly irritating.
With the recent news of hazing at #Northwestern Wildcats, I thought it would be pertinent to remember the situation at #Maryland Terrapins under DJ Durkin. The folks over on this podcast do an excellent job of highlighting the flaws in the system of CFB.
I'd recommend skipping the first 30-40 minutes Just a bunch of intro to football stuff and most of it was hyperbole from people that seem to hate the fact that the sport exists I didn't really find it that informative. Felt like a forced presentation as the former trainer talked through a PowerPoint presentation Cliffs: Maryland never took the players temp or had him get in a cold pool. I think everything else they talked about was covered by ESPN during initial reports
Typically not a true crime fan. But I've been listening to Otherworld since the beginning and the host decided to interview Eilish Poe, a STEM teacher in Fort Collins, CO who had a paranormal experience after her short-term boyfriend attacked her in her apartment. Warning: Gruesome details of violence in Part 2
I really don’t like it when comedians cover an interesting topic on their pod. The meat of the content is usually good, but I could do without the irrelevant jokes. They are never really funny, and just takes away from their product. To me anyway.
Pretty much all of them.... Last Podcast on the Left is tough, and there are a couple others. However; this time, I'm listening to Heart Shaped Pod. It's a pod about Nirvana and Kurt Cobain and only had so many episodes. Overall, it's pretty damn good, however, when they try to make jokes, the jokes just kind of seem like a waste of time and are slightly annoying. That said, it's not a deal breaker as I'm enjoying the pod overall, I just wish they'd cut that part out.
I was just thinking about a re-listen. That is the all time greatest podcast. The episode with Todd Glass blows everything away.
As someone who has listened to CBB and adjacent podcasts for nearly 10 years, I probably should already know the answer, but do I need to give the slightest shit about U2 to enjoy this podcast?
Their follow-up pod about REM legitimately turned me into a rabid REM fan, but no fandom required to enjoy
It's a VERY relaxed Auckerman doing his thing with a formidable and willing co-conspirator in Adam Scott. But what comes across is their genuine passion for the subject material while reliving their youth in story telling with U2 as the soundtrack. I like it... a lot.
I remember getting into it because I liked Adam Scott and love U2. Never heard of Scott Aukerman at the time and was initially annoyed by how little they talked about U2 until realizing the podcast was one of the most important things ever created by humanity
I already knew their names so was upset that they rehashed that but I was supplemented with knowledge about films, talking turtle, learning about the almighty dollar, poppin stones and fuck styles
Trying to listen to the LPOTL series on Oppenheimer because someone recommended it in the Nolan thread but holy fucking shit are the hosts annoying as hell. Idk if I can do it.
Just finished The Apology Line podcast series by Wondery. And it was pretty disappointing. So much potential, but it seemed like they couldn’t decide on the direction. Probably should’ve decided on biography or investigative from the start. But each episode felt all over the place. The most interesting part of the entire thing (the caller and potential serial killer Richie) gets pushed aside for two episodes just to have an anti-climatic reveal towards the end. Not to mention, the creator died in a tragic and potentially suspicious way (after receiving death threats through the line) and it was discussed for only a couple minutes out of a seven episode series. Definitely didn’t live up to expectations. And after listening, I would’ve rather it just been episodes filled with the recordings of the calls to the apology line.
other than on the rare roadtrip, i basically limit my podcasts to sports and some of the ringer's entertainment ones. but i'm three episodes in to Strike Force Five and i really dig it. i'm not a late night viewer (and i mean any late night, not Late Night) and none of the five are really important to me in any way. but i really enjoy their camaraderie and cleverness they exhibit; you can really understand how they all became successful (except fallon) because they all come off like the funniest guys in the room (except fallon). anyways, i was surprised at how much i liked it.
i found ep 5 - where fallon tries to run a 'game show' and the others clown on him the whole time - to be hysterical
General plug for Search Engine. Hosted by PJ from Reply All Sort of the same as repy all, but different. Just a general deep dive into random topics. Pretty good. He had Taylor Lorenz on at the end of the most recent ep to plug her book. He hires a 23 year old to view all her social media accounts for her and aggregate the best reels/tiktoks stories ect. Like she follows to many people to get memes and shit she cant keep up. True psycho behavior.
If I remember right, PJ was accused of being anti-union and remaining silent/ignorant on the real issue, Gimlet’s “bullying/abusive” leadership. He apologized for not using his status to call out leadership, and resigned. Probably deserves another chance if this was the case. However, my memory is a little fuzzy so it could have been more.
The G. Gordon Liddy episodes on BtB are really enjoyable. Guy sucks a lot but is the sort of lunatic that is funny so far. Way less misery that usual on a BtB ep.
What app do you all use? I've been using Google podcasts which I like, but they're shutting down in April, so...
