Gone Girl, this month's book club choice, might be my favorite of the ones I've read (which is five of six). Really awesome read.
Read Wool. Really liked it. It's 5 books with a prequel for the 6th. Good, quick reads. Cheap on amazon too
everyone go read divergent by veronica roth and thank me later. sequel which may be better is called insurgent
I liked Acacia, tore through the first two and then hate to wait about a year for book 3. Read the first 3 chapters but the wait has lessened my interest in the series.
I read it a couple months ago. really enjoyed it. it has the alternating perspective thing going similar to ASOIAF (although it's only two characters) and it's really faced paced. I haven't gotten around to reading Caliban's War yet, but the people who recommended LW to me say they loved that even more.
I kinda petered out about halfway thru book 2. It just wasn't interesting me anymore. I'll probably pick it up again after I finish The Way of Kings. On a side note, The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson is really good. It's the first book in a planned 10 book series, so you may want to put it at the end of your "to read" list, but I am about 80% through it and have loved it so far. The first book is longer than any of the SOIAF books I believe.
I'm reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King (about stopping the JFK assassination) right now, almost finished. You should also check out the Century Trilogy by Ken Follett. Two books are out now, that follow the same families from the various countries involved in WWI and WWII (the third book will be during the Cold War). Really, you should just read all of Ken Follett's books. He's incredible.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Way_of_Kings Tough to really pin it down, but it's set in a time of war between a couple nations. There's 4 main characters that the story follows around. One is an aging warlord who's giving up his need for battle and having visions relating to the past (kinda like a Ned Stark type plus having Bran type visions), one is a young soldier who used to be a surgeon but was forced to fight (also badass) even though everything keeps going against him, one is an assassin who hates himself and what he does but is honor bound to do it, and the fourth is a young girl who is trying to get hooked up with a famous princess and become her ward (sounds kinda lame but actually interesting as those chapters are used to show a lot of the mythology of the world). It's fantasy, not as "dark" or unsettling as SOIAF. Actually similar to the Acacia series but I like the characters in Way of Kings better.
you are going to need a lot of books because honestly i'll be surprised if its out by 2015. Spoiler fucking cunt grrm
Just finished that, pretty good read. I am ambivalent about the ending though. I'd recommend it to anyone though. Whoever asked about the Dark Tower series, read it. Be ready for book 4 because it can drag on a little bit, but great series overall and I really hope the movie gets made.
I'll go past ambivalent: I actually disliked the ending. It was kind of a blue-balls move by King to end it the way he did, but oh well. It did pass some time for me. Now I'm reading Reamde (sic) by Neal Stephenson. Really enjoying it thus far, but I'm only about 1/6th through.
Great thread. I just finished Ready Player One and will try the Expanse series next. Also made it book 5 in the WoT and had to put them down. They weren't terrible but I couldn't do 7 more books in row filled with aes sedais (sp) chapters. I'll probably finish at some point though
Really think that people itt should just join in on the book club. Lot of fun, we've read some great books.
