I never watched the anime, but decided to give this a shot due to the very high RT and IMDB ratings. One episode in and it’s definitely silly and entertaining. I’ll probably stick with it. Has a Twisted Metal feel to it with a little less of the humor. From RT: “One Piece captures the essence of its beloved source material with a charmingly big-hearted adaptation that should entertain longtime fans as well as patient newcomers.”
Watched the first ep and I have a question - what the fuck is this? Like what the hell did I just watch?
not only am I not familiar I think anime/Japanese cartoons are among the worst things humanity has ever birthed. Just galactically fucking stupid
there you go then. It’s not for you. Not sure why you watched it then. I get anime is not for everyone, but like any art form there is good and bad.
I just finished, and it was really good for what it is. I struggle with a lot of anime adaptations into live action, and as much as I don’t know the source material, they did a great job developing all of the characters and making you invested in their stories. The production value was excellent, and they managed to capture the cartoon aspects of it as well, which was fun.
It was a lot better than I expected it to be. Some of the character portrayals are annoying at times but that’s fine. This season covers the first 200 or so episodes of the anime. The guy at the end with the cigar is Crocodile who would be the bad guy for season 2. I don’t think they can go very far because the characters and abilities get crazy. The CGI budget would be crazy.
So my kid told me instead of watching the series a lot of the animated movies on Netflix are 20-30 episode arcs they condense down into 2 hours.
Haven’t watched the anime but all these you can tell how all these “boss fights” are prolly month long ordeals condensed.
I’m the opposite. Give me anything to do with pirates and I’m usually in. I watched this so many times as a young Tex.
If you haven’t watched the anime I’d hold up till this comes out. Netflix and AoT crew are remaking the early seasons when it was really lame and childish (like first 600 episodes).
