lol. If I am on the opposite side of people like you and caneknight along with some others in this thread I feel like I am doing okay.
From a representative of the group containing people rooting for the Iranian missles and drones to find their targets….i am of the let’s stop bombing and killing each other in the Middle East group.
Because targeted attacks in response to a previous much less targeted attack, even if the original was ineffective, should show the original aggressor they are out of their depth. Israel doing nothing is not a viable long term strategy.
So you are not, in favor of stopping the bombing, as you previously stated. You are, however, in favor of constant aggression from Israel?
Sure I am in favor of responding to an attack. A response I would have preferred not be needed because I would have preferred the initial attack not have happened. Just like I would prefer the US not bomb another country but would absolutely support bombing a country that started bombing us first.
That "attack" was the most elaborate measured display of saving face in recent memory. Literally fired hundreds of drones and missiles in such an obvious and choreographed way that, to date, they hit nothing. Iran gave Israel an off-ramp and because our boy Bibby is a nut case he's going to plow into the concrete barrier. It's just an upscaled version of what happened a few years ago when we did a targeted assassination in Baghdad, Iran fired some missiles at a US base, and we all called it a day, except apparently Israel is even more unhinged that Trump was at this point.
Sure. I see your point. I think from the other side when you are fighting hamas on one side and have saber rattling hezbollah and Iran on two other sides I don’t feel like you can really just do nothing in response to Iran. Also we are the monster in the room no one really wants a piece of, makes it much easier just walk away from “show” attacks.
No, if you're currently fighting (which is a whole-sale inaccurate term with what's happening in Gaza but lets park that for now) on one front, and have a tense standoff on another, the LAST thing you want to do is start shit with a third. It's a bad fucking idea, unless you're goal is to stay in power at the expense of your people.
Israel is trying to bait the Iranians into attacking a US diplomatic or military installation in the region. Everything should be seen from that lens.
Plus add on there is exactly zero way a shooting war between Israel and Iran ends any kind of final way without nukes coming into play. Neither of them can invade the other, they don't have the air or sealift to do it. Neither has a large enough Air Force to be strategic in the air. It's just going to be acts of terror and missile attacks that destabilizes the entire area and costs a shitload of money and lives for both sides and resolved exactly nothing.
It’s really gross to cheer on Israel’s continued aggression. No one here was supportive of Iran’s retaliation. Most in this thread have been demanding a de-escalation wrt the ongoing genocide of Palestinians. Jumping into this thread and wagging fingers at people that have been demanding peace because you picked a side that you want to see succeed in their violent acts is very gross
The tweet thread that was shared a page or two back was entirely accurate. Massive off ramp was presented, everybody saw it and pleaded for Israel to take it. It was so easy. Bibi may have actually decided that pressing the gas to the floor will never be more available to him than it is today. And, depressingly, he’s probably right at this point in the U.S. election cycle. Unfortunately for Israel, he’s emptying the clip, and when this phase is over, he’s going to have lost a material amount of US support in the region. I’m geopolitically conservative and land on generally projecting power and authority globally (I’m evolving, but still think geopolitics is a zero sum game and must generally be treated this way). 6 months ago I would have said Israel is an absolute ally and we should be shoulder to shoulder with them come hell or high water. Today, I’d be fine if we told them they fucking started this - figure it out yourself. The irony of Bibi being a regional terrorist as a response to a neighborhood terrorist is hopefully lost on less and less people each day.
The way Iran is publicly responding to the attack thus far it seems like things are over as far as the two countries shooting at each other. If there’s any mass retaliation it’ll come from Lebanon
Have they said what was hit? Seems to all be relative minor, right? Back to proxy war for those two I would think.
You do know a consulate is considered sovereign territory by international convention right? Let me guess, Irans consulate doesn’t count in your opinion but Israel’s does I bet. You’re as bad as our resident IDF defender.
During 8 hours of sitting for jury duty on Friday read a bunch including a few old articles on Syria from 2019, they remain an excellent comprehensive summary on the ground and the politics of what happened, US intervention, ISIS, Kurds, etc. Syria doesn't matter much anymore but with an economy largely dependent on drug trafficking among other things it remains a powder keg. Remains wild how few Americans know about the Battle of Khasam when the US obliterated anywhere from 200-700 Russian Wagner fighters and Syrian Army forces when they tried to attack the Conoco Gas plant in eastern Syria, could be termed a direct engagement with Russian troops. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2019/06/behind-the-lines-syria-part-one/ https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2019/06/behind-the-lines-syria-part-two/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Khasham
Yeah that was a legit example of fuck around and find out. Whole WSJ doc is worth watching relative to Wagner but set it to where they discuss that battle. When the Russians claim those guys aren't our forces and they're firing on US special forces (embedded among the YPG/SDF whatever you wanna call it) it kinda gives the okay to introduce US air support into the game which is like prime Adrian Peterson vs high schoolers. When you have private military guys acting like a legit military but you pretend those guys dont exist they have zero protection when they step outta line.
let me help you The Palestinian political faction Fatah charged on air that Hamas had deliberately killed aid workers, stolen aid and manufactured a food crisis in Gaza, according to a Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) investigation published on Sunday. “Hamas’ persecution of any party who is a source for distributing the [humanitarian] aid or securing it began from the start of the war, as Hamas persecuted well-known figures and teams of volunteers on the ground in mid-October [2023,” the anchor said. ”It attacked them and killed some of them for two reasons: Firstly, preventing any activity by any [other] party in the Gaza Strip; and secondly, ensuring Hamas control over the aid and its storage, which of course leads to these crazy and unreal prices that no one can pay in the shadow of this destruction. “After the occupation bombed storehouses controlled by Hamas, the accumulation of tons of various food and aid products that Hamas had taken exclusivity over became clear, at a time when the Gaza Strip is suffering from hunger.” Following the anchor’s comments, footage from an Al-Jazeera interview was played which showed a woman in the enclave complaining that “the aid isn’t reaching all the people” because the aid “is all to their [own] homes. Let Hamas catch me and shoot me and do what they want to me.”
So what are you trying to gain with this? That since Hamas has done it, Israel hasn’t? No one in here is carrying water for fucking Hamas. We know they’re bad guys. We know they do evil shit like this. We don’t want Israel doing the same bad shit, but they do.
