he is isn’t master obi wan kenobi. He is Ben. He’s a broken man who has given up. He literally says this in the show. He doesn’t use the force anymore. Obi wan would have given his money to the worker in the first episode. Obi wan would’ve helped the other Jedi who was killed on tatooine. Ben (and he isn’t even ben kenobi) knows the war is over and the lost. Hide is all he can do and what he says on screen he can barely catch Leia and keep her from falling to her death let alone do a magic trick on demand. Also why he is using a blaster instead of a weapon he was skilled in. He’s not a Jedi right now
All of this. Ben is a broken man with a tenuous at best grip on the force. It's why he hasn't been able to communicate with Qui Gon. He's making minor league mistakes, like calling Leia by her name in front of the storm troopers. He can't even attempt a jedi mind trick on them.
A 10 year old ran (waddled) right by him and then somehow created 200 yards of space enough for her to climb a 40 foot ladder before he even got to the alley. Let's not try to justify the chase scene being absolutely absurd for the 3rd straight episode. He's not a cripple and 15 minutes later he was able to move faster than Vader who is an actual adult. I've seen him jog at a decent pace on screen. I understand the motivation to not use the force or hesitance to use it (he actually said he didn't want to draw attention to them by using it), but in an alley by yourselves.... just lift up a little pebble from the street and be like "see bitch I'm a jedi now lets go"
I can get the "not as powerful as before" = can't communicate with his master from long distance. But he most definitely can still use the force and I'm pretty sure he's said more than once on the show that he isn't using the force because he doesn't want to draw attention and not because he's lost the abilities.
Also Ben's aim on the rooftop gun fight First time I've seen "good guys" in a star wars miss one target so many times
Sorry, I just completely disagree. He’s lost his game. He literally let another jedi get killed and didn’t even attempt to help. Same reason he didn’t dice up the storm troopers with his light saber which general kenobi could have easily done also, he could’ve used jedi mind trick in the meth lab a few times without people seeing, and he didn’t because he can’t
we will agree to disagree. i'm just going off of what he actually said in the show that wasn't the main point of my post originally though. I was more appalled at a 10 year old girl apparently running 3.9 40 again in another chase scene.
fair enough. I think this should’ve just been a movie. Hopefully after 3 more episodes it ties together
lol. There are parts of ANH that are B-movie level. And they’re willing to look right past ben kenobi/obi wan kenobi and luke having the same last name living on anakins home planet
We have a former Jedi Master completely crumbling under the scrutiny of a storm trooper. fumbling names, getting his story wrong, etc. here is more evidence that his connection to the force is crumbling. He can't even shoot accurately.
he was a pretty good shot when he had to be this episode. I bet this is going to be similar to when Luke and Rey finally heard the force voices. It was always with them. They just couldn’t hear it/connect or whatever with it yet. He can’t on-demand his Jedi skills at the moment, but they are there when he has to have them (catching leia/shooting the storm troopers) he’s at rock bottom after seeing what anakin is now and getting his ass whooped and, I assume, losing leia. I’m pretty sure qui gon is going to finally “answer” his calls while recovering from his burns and he will go off on some baddies last few episodes. I think that is when duel of the fates music from the promo comes in
Maybe it’s my TV but I’m having an awful time with the lighting in this series. The only other time I remember having issues with scenes being so dark were “The Long Night” in GoT.
It was names/messages from other Jedi’s. I would assume the important one being Vos which could mean a live action Dark Disciple series in the future.
George Lucas classic style was influenced by the story arc outlined in Joseph Campbell’s “The Hero’s Journey.” The hero always fails his initial challenge. Obi Wan is going to connect with a supernatural force and return stronger.
Kenobi didn't die by Vader in the last episode because Anakin Skywalker/Vader is the most dramatic bitch in the galaxy.
It runs in the family. The main takeaway I had from rewatching ANH a few years ago, which was the first time in a very long time, was that I didn’t remember Luke being such a bratty bitch in that movie. Probably because he transitioned to big boy pants between that and ESB
whenever my kids gripe about having to do their chores, I'll belt out "But I was going to Tosche Station to pick up power converters" in a whiney voice
Maybe it's just me but I'm not impressed by the 3rd sister at all. Just feels like a shitty acting job. Then again, I just started the first episode so maybe she gets better.
I don't see training montage in that cycle. Totally going against the Japanese school of leveling up to face new threats.
We’ll see, it’s just the first thing I thought when I saw how weak and unheroic Obi Wan has appeared in the first two episodes and then should have been killed by Vader in three.
Was hoping to get a QGJ appearance, but guess obi wan is just finding his groove again on his own? but wtf at a 30 min episode this really should’ve just been a movie
Think they would have really invested in stronger underwater glass but I guess low bid wins in the Empire too.
“Should we get it in blaster-proof since everyone carries blasters?” “Nah, we’re all such great shooters with perfect aim we should be fine with just the regular non-blaster proof windows.”
Clearly there's some stuff in her past that's going to factor in somewhere, but at some point torturing a 10 year old girl like that is tough to come back from in 2 episodes to end the season. I don't think they've set up that kind of turn at all, other than consistently bringing up her past as a motivating thing for her.
Bad actress? We’re still putting all the blame at the feet of the actors and actresses rather than the writers’ scripts and directorial choices? I guess SW fans will never learn.
Pretty sure “bad character” covers what you mentioned. But if you only want to acknowledge half of the caption to feel superior then that’s cool. Not giving any type of pass to the writers/directors. Disney has done nothing but fall short since acquiring SW. Just thought the meme was amusing.
In the real world where incel fanatics just constantly harass and threaten the face they saw on their screen and neither you nor I nor the incels could name any script writer or director for this series without IMDb, yeah, I’m fully tired of the negativity. SW has been rough since acquisition (since post-OT maybe?), who can deny that. But how much more of this before no on-screen talent will want to go near the franchise because of the toxic fans itching to send them death threats the moment they doggy pile the actors for being “bad”?
