In no way am I saying this show is The Wire, but I imagine these were the week-to-week conversations people were having when The Wire was airing. The Deuce is similar in that there's a thousand beach balls in the air at once and it's hard to sometimes tell what's going on when, in reality, there's quite a bit of time set aside solely for character development.
IMO - this is more like Treme. I loved it, but could see how others were bored or turned off by the pace. This isnt clicking for me the way Treme did.
Yeah, I couldn't get through Treme. Gave up during S2. This feels much better, though I can't particularly tell you why.
Frankie is clearly gonna die this season. Good with me, can't really tell the difference between the brothers any more.
I assume you've watched the last episode? for the record I'm enjoying this season. it's a bit depressing and less fun than other seasons, but still really good.
I'm on season 1 episode 2. I thought the first episode was pretty damn good. James Franco was pretty entertaining.
My exact feelings. Imagine they're wrapping it up this season because of all the shit with James Franco. Shame, really liked it.
Black Frankie leaving the Deuce in'85 to help his cousin in Baltimore in the Lexington Tower in West Baltimore (Nate Barksdale) hit me straight in the fucking feels
Certain shows just make me feel at home. The show blends into your own reality as you watch it. Even with a boring episode I was happy to watch.
this was a good show. probably not a great show, but I really enjoyed it. I watched the inside the episode and Simon said they shot that scene with Vince in present day as the opening scene of the pilot but wound up not using it because you'd know how he ended up.
Did Eileen figure out why she didn't show at the set? I don't recall, I feel like they closed up that storyline too quick. Deserved more of a sendoff IMO ...
Montage hit me in the feels, actually think it was better than the wire 1 but I don't like feeling like that. Halt and catch fire, the americans, and lost are shows that have hit me in the feels for a while as the deuce did.
Liked the finale a lot one of those shows that I’ll tell someone to watch ten years from now and be a cool hipster old man when they watch and realize it’s good
Finished this. It’s just such an incredible show. I think being a New Yorker I’m biased, but it’s really up there all time for me. It had an underrated skill of constantly getting better and evolving while most shows do the opposite of. Loved the ending.
Just finished. Loved the show. The final season was so dark. The ending sequence was so cool and poignant. I felt like I was there with Vincent walking down the new shiny, corporate Times Square. All of these oblivious bystanders walking past Vincent who had seen it all. Ran those streets in the old days, worked with the mob, ran bars, watched his brother die there, killed a made man, and knew the pimps and hookers. Makes you wonder who you’re walking past each day and what story they have.
Finally binged the last season and did not expect the finale to stick with me the way it has. This is a show I’ll always refer to fondly even if I was the only person I know that watched it.
this show does it to me at times. Really was a phenomenal show but the AIDs shit made it incredibly sad
Just started this for the first time. What a great fucking show. Surprised it’s not more talked about but I’m sure it’s on account of the subject matter
