I mean he was 4th on the depth chart? He started at the beginning of the year because the starters Moore and Paige were banged up. And he played less down the stretch behind 6th year QJo and the starters once they were healthy. With that said, it's definitely a loss and no one us saying otherwise. Herb just being weird per usual.
Seems like a lot of discussion about his place on the depth chart and no real substance about his actual play
Sabb is good, filled in great when Moore and Paige were banged up. It's a loss for us and while he's not Caleb Downs, Bama replaced him with the best available option. Sabb probably won't be an all-timer in the annals of Bama safety play but whatevs
He’s been good not great. Better as a guy closer to the line of scrimmage than in coverage. In the right position he could be really good it just seems with his size he’ll never be a great coverage guy.
Sure Sabb is a work in progress, but just wait until the staff of the 2015 Hoosiers get ahold of him!
Yes, they start 3/11 at SCAR. But I just checked and Bama's "Spring II" began Feb 12. And drop/add period ends quicker for compressed classes. So not sure how they got him in for this semester.
He was a lot better last year than I expected. His FR year he got into a game late, a runner got an angle on him and he looked like he ran a 4.8 or something trying to chase him. After the rumors as a recruit that teams thought he'd have to move to LB, I kind of gave up on the idea he would be good at safety. But he was good when he played last year. They just chose to go with vets over him down the stretch until they had to play him in the end.
Late to the Seth talk, but if he winds up starting at guard for y’all, that is indeed a very bad case scenario. He’s a center through and through, he’s just got to get over the yips which hopefully he can because he’s got all conference potential if he dies. He’d be an absolute turnstile at guard though.
The issue we have is that we need a guard more than a center, but all reports seem to be that he will play center. Our 2023 center was a redshirt freshman Carson Hinzman. He played above expectations on a bad OL, but was thrust into the spot a year early because Wypler had a good Georgia game and declared NFL.
...and got benched because he went on a podcast and said things that made Ryan Day get mad at Lou Holtz again.
I don’t think he physically has what it takes to play guard, but I’m just a guy with an opinion on a message board, so maybe he can transition there. He’s a good, smart player but nothing about him really stands out to where you’d think he could play elsewhere. Limited athleticism, and not particularly strong. Does well on combos and calling defenses, but struggled a lot when asked to go one on one except for when he controlled Jordan Davis in the 2021 SECCG, which is still a bizarre outcome to me.
I agree. Day's reaction (if that was indeed the reason for his benching before the bowl game) was kind of insane based on what he said. Especially considering Hinzman (at least from the quotes I saw) was comparing Day to Urban despite never playing for Urban. Just a weird situation from everyone that seems more like "play on" than a foul of any consequence.
We had our worst OL in over a decade in 2023. We may have both our starting C and RT from 2023 competing for an open guard spot.
He revealed Matt Jones would play some center to give scouts some film for NFL. He also dragged our NIL program for not paying OL.
I think he also said some stuff comparing OSU's practices under Day to some stories of the ridiculous stuff Urban used to do.
you just recruited stupidly on OL for 4 years, it’s not NIL that was the problem- just recruit Midwest kids you are OSU get out of Florida
I feel like this thread would be really fun if you guys tampered with some of these Michigan defensive players before Friday.
Every large fan base has its lunatic fringe, but Michigan truly has distinguished itself in the last 3-4 months.
So that everyone can follow along, Caleb Downs is now transferring to Michigan because Keon Sabb opened up a spot by going to Bama.
