There’s a lot of pretty countryside down here It’s a shame there’s a massive landfill every 30 miles in every direction for some reason
To wes tegg ‘s point, MCC is a decent course particularly after the renovations, but it’s not anywhere close to Wynlakes in terms of quality or aesthetics. I can’t really think of any country club aspect in today’s world where MCC has an edge. I would definitely say that MCC used to have the edge in the dining room maybe 10-20 years ago, but Wynlakes has stepped it up with their food the last couple years... Sunday brunch for Father’s Day was phenomenal.
The golf course at Montgomery Country Club is great. Recently traveled to The National Memorial for Peace and Justice. Really cool place.
I prefer MCC to Wynlakes. I’ll always pick a course that demands shotmaking. Lagoon Park even has a better layout than wynlakes.
This is lesser-country club saltiness right here. I always liked Lagoon’s layout. Haven’t played there in 5+ years, but played regularly there during HS golf days. Seemed like the course was always in mediocre shape outside of when they were prepping for the city championship. Also fuck everyone who doesn’t repair their ball marks. One of the downsides to playing at a lot of the municipal and public courses.
I’m in mobile for the day Mugshots has incredibly good fries Where should I dinner tonight? I was recommended Felix’s
Is Squid Ink open for dinner? It wasn't open yet last time I was down there. People love Dumbwaiter too.
Yeah, Squid Ink started dinner a couple weeks back... quite good actually. Another couple downtown suggestions: Von's, Dauphin's (for the view really, a la Felix's) Callaghan's isn't too far from downtown if you're looking for a laid-back atmosphere. (It has been named the South's Best Bar and has one of the best burgers in the state)
Meet me at the Lower Alabama (la) bar in west Mobile at 7. We’ll take shots every time someone karaokes “Tennessee Whisky” then head over to the Waffle House for my hash brown surprise MoJo bring the Naturdays
lol nah that’s Mary’s Cool story about that place. Went in there once (my last time) and the bartender asked what I was drinking. I asked her what kind of beer they had and she reached under the bar and handed me a bud heavy and walked off. After that, asked her what kind of tequila she had.. poured me a shot of montezuma and walked off. That ain’t my bar
Are there any other places these days in addition to this? Am in town for the next four days. Also my brother tried to suggest we all go to the Camellia Bowl today, so that's how far down the "things to do" list we already are.
Was just having the wonder wtf these bowl teams are going to do for entertainment in Montgomery conversation with my sister who lives there.
Haven't been to the walk on's in either town. But I definitely vouch for that place. Their food is legit and great beer list
this upcoming sunday - tuesday. gonna hit up some of those places mentioned that i wasn't able to go to last time
You’ll probably get a lot of people on the river today, so people watching will be prime. Don’t sleep on the food, either. It’s solid.
wes tegg and whoever else, I want to go play Capitol Hill. Can't plan anything super expensive because most of the guys are going on another golf trip in October. Are there areas I want to avoid staying? Saw a decent looking Hilton garden but I know nothing of Montgomery other than driving through headed to OB/Biloxi. Or should I just stay in Prattville?
that doubletree right by the waterfront is where i always stay and it's not terrible. what is terrible is that oyster bar that's like 2 blocks from the Hotel right across from the Mellow Mushroom so yeah don't go there
If you're into architecture, it's worth driving to The Montgomery Academy's campus to see their world renowned bridge.
