That’s kinda what it was. Showing them in camp and building the characters then showing the battle scenes as they were sent to new ones. I mean it’s still good just thought it was weird but I have no idea what the story is based on.
Watched the first 2 episodes, its really hard to get into this show, nothing like BoB, I know I know, but BoB sucked you into the characters pretty much right away episode 1. It just seems so disjointed. Ill probably continue to watch, but its not that good.
Having not read the book or knowing the real history my bet is Buck is still alive. Precedent has been set on "look how crazy rare it is to come back whole from dozens of missions" and I can't imagine them killing their co-lead in episode 4 off screen.
Kind of a paint by the numbers show honestly. Nothing too engrossing about it aside from some of the air battles unfortunately
There's just not a ton of stuff you can do to "spice up" the variety in their missions. Bombing runs were kinda paint by numbers missions. I also don't know of the history of the 100th but I'm hoping we get a lot more stories of being behind enemy lines post-shot down. Only way to really add variety that's not non-combat in a military base or on a "weekend pass." Much more difficult to get people engaged when it's just Bombers + flak + Luftwaffe + bombs over and over every mission. BoB had the benefit of having a wide variety of missions in all kinds of settings. And they didn't get to return to base and ride bicycle races between missions. Overall just a harder story to tell in a way that gets people engaged, if the main focus is going to be bombing runs. Lot of season left and a lot of characters unaccounted for that we hopefully get a good story from that doesn't involve being in planes the entire time. I think they've done a good enough job of showing how terrifying their bombing missions were. That alone has gotten me into it.
they’ve not done a good job of connecting the audience to the characters. Like, I like the show but I don’t give a shit about anyone.
They do very little to draw you in and connect you to the characters. Even when adversity hits, they just kinda skip past it and move on in a glamorized way. The acting and writing just aren’t good. Disappointing.
I’m not gonna go track down spoilers but really disappointed if Cleven is done and that’s all we got. It’s so bad it’s making me assume he has to be alive.
If I was on that sole plane that survived I would have been in the same boat as the one guy. Good fuckin luck getting me up there on another bombing run
Spoiler are we thinking they visit Bucky and Buck in German POW camps in these last few episodes? I don't know that there's a whole lot of story to tell, as I didn't read a ton of detail on their experiences there (if any are even available), of these guys going down just being captured and taken prisoner until they were released after the surrender.
That’s exactly what I’m expecting Spoiler The two major plot points should be the march out of Sagan and Cleven’s escape.
New episode came out early. pretty sure the interrogator played Jonas in Dark but can’t find confirmation on the internet
Best episode of the season for me. Actual character building, really enjoyed it. Railway scene was rough
Episode 6 also fantastic other than Austin Butler looking like he just hit the spa before his appearance. It’s incredible how poorly they portray that character.
Must have been in Cleven's terms when he entered the camp and Butler is just mimicking it for authenticity
I still haven’t been able to watch another season of True Detective. Who dunnit mysteries generally aren’t my jam though, so it almost has to be near that level to interest me. I was hard on The Pacific when it first debuted because of the BoB effect, but it grew on me over time, so I intentionally avoided trying to compare this to it. I have my nitpicks but have really enjoyed it overall so far and am glad we have it. I think the early episodes suffered a little from the fact that during the most intense moments, everyone is in an O2 mask, which I get you have to do, but it makes it hard to really get who is who up there. Still a very good portrayal of how fucking horrifying and hopeless it was. 50% death rate for bomber crews is just wild. It may also suffer from propping everyone up as hard ass heroes who shrug off the terror and just go back up staring down near certain death. I’m sure that’s not entirely inaccurate but… It’s been awhile since I watched it, but I think Catch-22 did a better job of showing the perspective of someone who just fucking breaks from it all, which I also assume was not uncommon and is more relatable
I honestly thought this was the best episode yet. I was fully erect during the scene of them all dropping their bombs on Berlin.
I can’t decide on this one, really didn’t love the early episodes or setup… but the last 3 have been really great, showing the toll and the cost everyone has paid. Honestly just think they misfired badly in casting the leads, I have no idea what those two are trying to do or be on the screen. It’s distracting and it just doesn’t fit
Idk I’m still in but I couldn’t stand this episode. They just haven’t done a good job building these characters to a degree I care all that much about them.
Still loving the show over here and thought that episode was great. Gave out a nice fuck yea when the 100th had their fighter support come in.
I'm still enjoying this show. I think it's really well done across the board. Special props to whomever arranged the title score. Beautiful.
Callum Turner is fantastic, but they definitely could’ve made us care about the characters more earlier on. The action sequences and the fear of being alone in Europe being shot down have been insanely well done.
Episode 6 is an all-timer episode. Great acting, realism, cinematography, and the absolute horror and confusion of the soldiers seeing the Jews in the trains.
Nope. True stuff. Just another cool WW2 Story https://screenrant.com/tuskegee-airmen-red-tails-masters-of-the-air-true-story/
I was kind of let down with this one, I was expecting more. Spoiler literally sleeping through D-Day so we get no action at all after teasing that shot all season? Overall still a HUGE fan
I read the book after watching the first couple of episodes and they're going to have to cram in a TON of things to resolve where the main characters end up in apparently an hour tenish of run time. Should have just done 10 eps like BoB and the Pacific
