Wait is it wrong that my entire political identity was inspired by the 2010 Steve Carrell/Tina Fey action comedy Date Night
Astrology is at least rooted in something beyond just wild ass suppososition. Libertarianism can't hold a candle to the empirical rigor of astrology. It's just insufferable white men, self-deigned philosopher kings, smelling their own farts.
By the way, stop talking to people at parties, libertarians. No one's sure who invited you but some people are just too nice to tell you to GFY and it's clear you can't take a hint.
Who talks politics at a party? If someone’s political leanings are that important to them, they aren’t the type of person I want to hang out with at a party (or it’s a shitty party that I don’t want to be at).
This doesn't make any sense to me. Why wouldn't your political leanings be important to you? Are you supposed to treat politics like a casual hobby with a minor vested interest? I mean that would certainly explain your libertarianism but still...
If you're the type of person that cares about the world and society we live in I don't want to associate with you I prefer my friends to be exclusively passionate about vapid things like which amalgamation of sports colors is superior to another different amalgamation of colors.
I assume the premise of his statement is this a party where you are meeting people for the first time or only know casually as a friend of a friend. I’m personally not going out to meet people and trying to learn who they voted for or if their stance on a hot button issue like immigration (I’m in favor of more) agrees with mine. This is separate but somewhat related, I also don’t particularly care if people agree with me so if that is important to people, they aren’t people I would like to hang out with. What do you think is so important to know in your first 10 minutes of meeting someone?
I don’t want to get all sanctimonious, but this take is equally as ridiculous as what you’re quoting. If someone tells me they’re into Russian literature, as a random example, and that they prefer Tolstoy over Dostoevsky I want to figure out the how and why of that. I’m not up their ass about it (because anyone worth a shit knows that Dostoevsky>>>) but more than anything, politics define everything about our existence
I've got nothing against talking politics at parties when appropriate. I'm just saying one of the things libertarians are known for is not being able to shut up about it. Which was amusing since the libertarian was the one being dismissive of that
And that is based on what evidence? I’m sure you have a study that supports your assertion. Obviously you know immediately if someone is a libertarian because they talk about it, so there is no risk that some is libertarian if someone doesn’t talk about libertarianism when you meet them for the first time.
If your life leaves you with choosing between discussing politics or sports colors, I’m sorry that you don’t have more interesting things going on and that you’re not a more inquisitive person.
