This was one of my favorites. Death blossom to 8 year old JP was the coolest thing. I also loved the “What do we do!? ....*eye visor closes* ...we die.”
Teen Wolf (1985) Kendall & Meatball thoughts inbound; - there’s a lot of b-ball sweat going on - lol at the b-ball nutters shorts - Styles van surfing, no cops anywhere - just once I wanna see the guy get the smoking hot chick instead of girl who has been with him from jump - no one has a problem with Scott being a damn werewolf - Boof sucks at 1 on 1 b-ball, no D - so much dude sweat during Game 2 of season before tipoff - so much sweat in this movie
Uncle Buck Police Academy (3, 4, 5, and 6 are age appropriate) Flash Gordon Ernest Goes to Camp the early 90s The Three Ninjas Sidekicks
You do realize Revenge of the Nerds contain sexual assault, rape, revenge porn, combined with racial and homophobic overtones right?
The fat 40-year-old on the high school hoops team would have been my strongest “what the fuck” observation ... besides the cameo penis at the end.
If I’m ever asked by extras on set about what other movies I’ve been in, I always claim that I was the Power Glove guy from The Wizard.
Forgot to mention the kids laughing at the score of the first Beavers/Dragons game 72-12. Meatball: the Beavers suck, Chub is the worst player I’ve ever seen
This thread predictably went the way every movie thread goes where the OP lays out his criteria for the films early (kids clowning on Celemo’s favorite childhood films) to everyone just naming movies they remember. That said, you should absolutely show your kids Road House. They’ve got to grow up sometime and Sam Elliot showing partial bush will do that.
These poor kids are going to be watching shitty 80’s movies for weeks and grow up to be as fucked up as the rest of us
Parents let me watch Porky’s when I was like 12 or 13, I don’t think they remembered how many titties were in that movie.
Also first one was 1979 but I remembered enjoying how bad the Meatballs series of movies were. Should watch at least one or two in honor of Meatball.
I'm sure most people here knew this, but the girl from The Wizard (who I had a big crush on) is musician Jenny Lewis known for her solo stuff and Rilo Kiley / Postal Service
Haven't seen it mentioned yet, gotta throw out a rec for Legend based on having watched most of it once during the summer at like 2am when I was a teenager and it randomly popped into my head
They could have a Dennis Hopper movies of 1986 night. Start with the wholesome underdog classic Hoosiers, with its feel good theme of redemption and triumph in the face of adversity. Then segue into Blue Velvet, with its wholesome story of murder, drugs, and the sex trade in a small Pacific Northwest town. Then finish with Rivers Edge, for more murder and obscure 1980’s death metal on the soundtrack, as Celemo explains why Dennis Hopper’s character carries around a blowup sex doll that he talks to throughout the movie. Family movie night.
War games is a legitimately great movie but I feel like they would get a good laugh at the old timey technology (like the modem you have to put your phone on)
One of the most technically accurate “hacking” scenes in a movie based on actual tech that was around at the time.
Some fun ones for the kids: Blue Velvet Hannah and Her Sisters Raging Bull Broadcast News Do The Right Thing Ran Wings of Desire Grave of the Fireflies
Can’t remember if any of these contain nudity or anything else that would be inappropriate for a child and some of these I’ve only seen on basic cable so they would have been edited for TV, but... Sixteen Candles The Sure Thing Better off Dead Say Anything The Outsiders The Breakfast Club St. Elmo’s Fire Pretty in Pink Weird Science Ferris Bueller’s Day Off National Lampoon’s Vacation, Christmas Vacation Weekend at Bernie’s Back to the Future trilogy even though the third was released in 1990
Space Camp was the first movie Mrs. Celemo suggested because she fucking loves that movie. Unfortunately it's not streaming anywhere so I ordered the DVD off Amazon and it should arrive next week
Has The Karate Kid been mentioned? Also, how did we get to page three without any mentions of Bloodsport, Kickboxer or any other JCVD instant classic?
