Schlitterbahn was not affiliated with Six Flags at all. They were a family run operation out of Texas near San Antonio IIRC. Their lack of corporate and shareholder oversight is how they were able to become the most "extreme" water park on the planet and how they were able to build such a stupid ride in the first place. I believe the ride was designed and built in house too. That would never happen in a legitimate company. WOFs parent company actually owns them now after they got sued into oblivion after the accident. I know waaaay more about the theme park industry than any normal person should, AMA.
CF acquired Schlitterbahn company after the accident and declined to buy the KC property because they aren't dumb and knew it wasn't gonna survive. And also didn't want to cannibalize the existing water park in OOF they had across town.
It's also in poor taste to point out it was a republican anti-oversight, free-market politician's kid who was a victim of a poorly planned and designed amusement ride operating in the state, so I won't bring that up.
Feel bad for the family but if it’s gonna happen at least it happened to someone who facilitates such conditions.
Agreed. Feel for the kid, his siblings, his mom and the people on the raft with him when it happened. His dad is a piece of shit though. And it could be argued he leveraged the accident in his campaign to become SoS.
This is his Wikipedia section on political positions: Regarding LGBT issues, Schwab believes being gay is a "lifestyle choice".[15] He is against same-sex marriage and describes himself as pro-life.[16] Schwab opposes legalization of medical marijuana, saying "this would be an attempt to legalize marijuana. It has no benefit for pain management. All it does is make you crave another bag of chips."[17] After the death of his son at a water park, Schwab supported additional government regulations on the inspection of water parks.[18][19]
There's also this: Schwab's 10-year-old son, Caleb, died after being decapitated on August 7, 2016 in an accident on the Verrückt water slide at the Schlitterbahn Kansas City waterpark.[20][21] The family received a reported $20 million settlement.[22] Schwab was criticized for taking advantage of Texas law, which permitted him to receive the $20 million settlement, rather than Kansas law that he, as a state lawmaker, voted for in 2014, which would have capped damages at $300,000.[23][24] Something about leopards eating faces....
I’m gonna come down this Thursday. Anyone have a like life changing pizza places? Or just like places to eat in general. I’m planning on fago de chao for lunch on Friday, other than that not sure. I’m trying to get out out my usual habits…although I will drive home with some pizza shuttle.
KC generally doesn’t have amazing pizza but 1889 and Il Lazzarone are both solid. I’m not usually a Brazilian steakhouse guy but if you’re after meat sweats, Slaps and LCs are two slightly lesser known bbq places if you haven’t been. Both great although Slaps can be more hit or miss also Corvino, Farina, La Bodega, and Grunauer are all big favorites of mine for more date night type stuff
There is a pizza place not far from town topic I can't think of the name of it something to do with a buffalo but it's v good
Speaking of places to eat, man the plaza just ain't it anymore...place has fallen off fairly quick. Rye was alright I guess
Flew into MCI for the first time in 7 years this week. Much better than the last time I was here. Officially moving next weekend and have an apartment lined up in OP for two months while we start house hunting. Wife is trying to sell me on Spring Hill but drove through there Wednesday heading to SE Kansas and it looked a little barren. Also, what's the go to sports betting app? Anyone got a referral? Nice to be out of the unfree state of TX.
FD >>>>> DK. I use those 2 and MGM mostly. Bet ESPN has a $250 free bet promo right now which is nice. I'm happy to share referrals with you if you want them, just PM me. Also do not move to Spring Hill.
That's a nice hotel. Go down the street to Martin City and drink a bunch of beers and come back here and shitpost
