They had a tire kill people at Michigan one year in Indy car iirc. Crazy they can't get that under control
I clearly have no idea what I’m talking about. That article references other deaths too, including at the Indy 500.
Indycar imo has never been at the forefront of safety. Took then forever to close in the cockpit where random stuff didn't fly in and kill the driver. Flagman used to stand on the track. Just dumb stuff where your asking for someone to get badly hurt
Trying to avoid spoilers...does anyone have a replay link of the race. Long story, couldn't watch any and I don't think I have a stream option through subscriptions. #sucks
For you the F1ers: The schedule is very sleep-friendly. Weekend structure is roughly the same as F1, but it’s not as rigid. There might be fewer practices, no Friday running, or things like that on some weekends. Quali generally splits Q1 into 2 groups and takes top 6 from each into Q2 and the “Fast Six” is Q3. Firestone usually brings 2 compounds instead of 3, and it’s less transparent as to what those compounds are compared to the Pirelli range. Cars refuel. Push to pass gives a horsepower boost that every car gets an allotment of, rather than DRS/zones/range. Rolling starts. Team structure is different, with a range of 1-4 cars per team. The cars also all generally run different sponsor liveries than their teamates. 2 engine suppliers, 1 chassis, limited ability to modify anything on the cars. Aero packages are standard for all, but vary for different track types.
TV, sponsor, and schedule logistics. Americans want ovals, and there aren’t that many that can easily and cost effectively get on the schedule the way Iowa can. And Roger Penske owns IndyCar. Newgarden has dominated almost entirely for the past 5 or so years, with pretty much only other Penske cars interrupting his dominance. Before that Andretti won like every race since they built the track. It’s a small oval that is almost entirely turns with long green flag stretches. So once one team figures out the magic formula to be a tenth faster they’re able to run away once they hit lap traffic inside 20 laps.
This would be suboptimal. What they really need is to add back additional chassis manufacturers or make dalara get off its ass and do something about the shit decade old car.
Rumors online is that it was Chip and a dui. Others speculating that it wasn’t anyone of real note, and purely accidental, but pushing it out in an attempt to excuse performance issues.
#Formula 1 fans, give it a shot. The racing will be way more competitive. Karl Hungus Race week in St. Pete for the season opener. Everything is on Peacock, race on NBC or Peacock. all times in are in CT below because of my location
I'll give it a shot. No need for this place to be like the rest of the internet where F1 vs Nascar vs Indy takes place. That shit is fucking insufferable.
Apple and Oranges I don't have interest in spec series racing. I like following the in's and out's and importance the entire team has on the results in F1. I also like the global nature and tracks in F1. Also, there's no way the drama in IndyCar is at the same level as it is in F1. (That's an assumption but I've never heard otherwise) Tl;dr...it's just not my cup of tea but I fully realize others have their own preferences
The biggest obstacle in the past has been the insufferable difficulty in watching something because of Peacock. Series has been solid for the past decade. The race here at Barber is always a lot of fun and super competitive.
All fair criticisms. The chassis needs a major overhaul. The drama doesn’t usually rise to the levels generally seen in f1, but they have their moments. Drivers getting sued, big names missing the Indy 500 on qualifying pace, the biggest team owner killing a driver’s dog, stuff like that does happen. https://www.nbcsports.com/motor-spo...mclaren-racing-indycar-f1-chip-ganassi-racing
I went to Daytona for the 500. I'm going to both Indy and Austin this year too. Its the year of Motorsports in the Brite household.
Anyone have thoughts on the Nashville race? I was pretty shocked at ticket prices. I'd like to go, but it's not worth $100s a ticket over Barber when we live 15m away.
Not a lot of comprehensive articles, but this series by Marshall Pruett goes in depth. Links to other teams in the related section https://racer.com/2024/03/03/2024-indycar-form-guide-arrow-mclaren/ much of it is in podcast form or similar
Maybe depending on your peacock tier, but I believe that the race itself will always have commercials on any platform because of the funding support model.
AJ Foyt with Sting Ray Robb and Santino Ferrucci might be the worst combination of drivers ever assembled in any series.
2023’s 100 days to Indy is up on Netflix. It’s their attempt at a drive to survive type of show. Follows the first part of the season up to the 500 and was released in-season leading up to the 500/just after. Worth a watch if you have downtime. A new season is coming out this year.
