agree but I also think Rob obviously lacks the confidence and swagger he once had. His lack on success at work and with Yasmin I think really dealt a blow to his ego and confidence. He's basically a completely different personality than from season 1- much meeker and less cocky in my opinion. The hookup with the older lady is him getting that back a little bit, in his own way. Maybe that's the same thing they are showing with Eric and his old flame.
all 3 have "made it" but Rob seems focused on self improvement still, Harper thinks she's got nothing left to improve and can do whatever she wants, Yaz doesn't like where she's made it to and is self-destructing/regressing ...
they are third year associates and Robert and Yasmin are really struggling. I wouldn't say they've made it, jmo.
Gus is my favorite character on the show. No idea where his plot line is going but very interested to see how things work out for him
My favorite line of the season has been Harper saying she works for Eric Tao at PierPoint; and Jesse looking at her and saying “you say that to me like it’s supposed to mean something” Great power move
the chickens have to come home to roost at some point. If she comes out on top now.... you have to wonder if there will ever be repercussions for her behavior
The whole point is that there is no repercussions as long as she comes out on top. She burned every bridge at Peirpoint, but if she retains Bloom - she's coming out on top. If he discards her - repercussions.
Anyone else catch the Succession reference in this week’s teaser? Sounded like Eric’s voice asking Rishi “Why are you dressed like Kendall Roy?” Makes me wonder if these two shows exist in the same universe or if it was just a shoutout to the show Succession existing in the Industry universe. Basically is Eric Tao watching Succession on Sunday night like the rest of us or is it possible for Harper Stern to be Logan Roy’s coverage at Pierpoint? hope that makes sense.
Binged thru this show the last few days. It absolutely rocks. I’m so impressed with the soundtrack and how it adds anxiety to the workplace scenes. Adding phone vibrations into the soundtrack was a brilliant move
the Daria apperance, the DVD recruitment, Yasmin tearing down Kenny, Jesse's house & convo with Gus ...just a perfect fucking ep. none of it feels contrived or "made for TV," just epic storytelling
almost an entire desk being gone for a whole day at the same time without explanation is a bit contrived . That is being picky tho but it was probably my favorite episode of the entire series. Loved Eric's quote to end the episode. I wonder where all this is going with Kenny Gus playing the politician was nice progress on that storyline as well
and getting paid for banging his student "solving problems" like a good politician. he's a natural. but i'm scared for what the constituent might do next ...
that's fair but also weren't they taking pictures of everything on the Pierpont floor? I mean, a suspended person just walking in and doing that which cameras and security in-house... Rishi also pretty instantly trusting Harper who just tried to royally fuck him is very sus, but it really comes back to Eric's quote "nobody can ever be satisfied"
Bigger deal for me was the episode before when Harper plans her deal with Jesse on her company line knowing her boss can patch into her calls Maybe she was just convinced she’s bulletproof having Jesse on her team
the Kenny arc is also really good cause the whole season, even though i have been "rooting" for his recovery and self improvement, it's felt like he's been interjecting himself in to Yas' business uncessarily. there's been a lot of cringy apologies that i've given him the benefit of the doubt of cause i felt it was better to try at least. but she summed it up perfectly in that tear down, he's working from his own self-flaggelation and not really making amends to anyone else ...
she's never been empowered to do the right thing nor has she seen it in action by anyone else. she's getting seduced by her new boss as we speak. while i wanted her to step up in that moment i can't blame her for being non-chalant about it. this is all she knows ...
Yeah I think that’s just a character flaw of Harper rather than a plot hole. She’s shown time and time again that she’s willing to play fast and loose without thinking about repercussions if she thinks she’ll end up on top. She becomes razor focused on the end justifying the means, and she doesn’t think things through fully. As was mentioned above, the biggest issue with this last episode was a suspended person not only having access to the floor but also taking pictures of proprietary documents out in the open. They’d for sure be apprehended immediately. I don’t really have an issue with members of the desk missing during the day. The only person who was supposed to be there was Rishi and they kept making up excuses (albeit bad excuses) for his absence.
She seems to have an attitude of “I went through this toxic environment, so the next class should too” the entire season. She’s been trying to basically haze Venetia in all of their interactions
I do think the way the show portrays the “older” analyst class vs. the “newer” class is really just a way to show how as younger generations have come into this industry the actions people once got away with are no longer tolerated. It seems like it’s symbolistic of how this has happened in real life. People are reporting sexual assault or harassment now, people are complaining about being over worked. Don’t forget there was a character in season one who died trying to light the fuse at both ends. In some of this writing and story telling there are absolutely real life themes being used within the show when it comes to the world of investment banking.
I’m a little confused why Harper and Eric had to cut out the other two, or why Eric pulled it on Harper. Protect her from insider trading ?? Not sure how that does it.
Eric always had knowledge of the degree issue and when the bloom insider trading thing happened he realized staying at pier point with rishi was a cleaner solution. That’s my initial read on things.
So is Yas in a weird way. She is oblivious to her privilege and when forced to face it she falls back into taking advantage of Robert and putting him in a shitty spot for the sake of her whims.
In a show full of moments I can’t comprehend, that hook up really takes the cake. I have no idea why that happened.
