Historically, I would say Camp Nou and the San Siro are the two great fortresses in Europe. I never really saw the Santiago Bernabéu as being as intimidating as either stadium. Basically, it's a bunch of Spanish faggits with air horns. Anfield and Stamford Bridge are good picks in recent years, IMO.

FWIW, I imagine that the Maracana in Brazil was probably amazing back in the day before its capacity was severely reduced.

Before the Heysel Disaster, the San Siro had a capacity of 125,000, which I cannot even imagine seeing in person. There was a legendary game between Italy and Brazil way back when played in front of 125,000 in the San Siro. Italy hammered Brazil, IIRC.

I think Sukru Saracoglu is intimidating as all hell and probably the best atmosphere in Europe, but the quality of the teams that have historically played in a stadium factors equally into a stadium being tough to win at as the atmosphere does. Still, I used to love going on Youtube and watching the 55,000 people jumping video at Sukru...

Well if we are adding non-european places. La Bombonera for Boca Juniors should rank pretty high.
