I am in a 10-team keeper league. Our rules are that you can keep two players from the previous season (last season was our first year as a keeper league). One of the two players can be a pick between rounds 1-4 in the draft. The other has to be picked from round 5-16 (or, if those guys suck, you can pick a free agent pick-up). My two keepers are Steven Jackson and Chris Johnson (putting me in pretty solid shape). My problem is that I pick 6th in our draft tomorrow (Monday) night. MJD and Calvin Johnson are going to be taken with the #1 and 2 picks, but from there it's anyone's guess. I think there's a decent chance that either Deangelo Williams or Steve Slaton end up being there when I pick, and they would unquestionably be the highest rated players on the board. If you were in my position, would you take either of those guys ahead of WR like Roddy White or Greg Jennings? I think there's a pretty good chance that, if I pass on them at #6, I won't get either when it comes back to me at #15. However, I'm not sure I could pass up on someone like Slaton or Williams. Any thoughts?
As nasty as Deanaglo Williams is on his own, and as much as it pains me to say it being a panthers fan, you may wanna avoid him. Our OL is solid, but Jake is bad and teams are going to run all over the defense, meaning we wont get the ball much and when we do we'll be throwing. Dwill is still going to have a good year, but not top 5 pick worthy, IMO.
It ended up not mattering, because neither Williams or Slaton were available. Fitzgerald and Andre Johnson were kept, and CJ went #3 in the draft (after MJD and Deangelo), so I ended up with my pick of the rest of the WR. My team ended up looking like this: QB - Matt Schaub (5th round) RB - Steven Jackson (keeper) RB - Chris Johnson (keeper) WR - Greg Jennings (1st round) WR - Dwayne Bowe (3rd round) Flex - Pierre Thomas (2nd round) TE - Zach Miller (9th round) Def - Philly (11th round) K - who cares (last round) RB - Knowshon Moreno (4th round) QB - Jay Cutler (6th round) WR - Santana Moss (7th round) RB - Darren Sproles (8th round) WR - Donnie Avery (10th round) TE - John Carlson (12th round) RB - Michael Bush (13th round) Things kind of turned for me in the middle after I was happy with my first four picks. I just realized that I took Schaub and Cutler back-to-back, but Schaub's biggest issue is durability, and I wanted to back him up with someone that was starting caliber (and I also just didn't like my other options when I took Cutler). If Bowe has the kind of season he's capable of, I think I've got a pretty solid squad. I really like my top 3 RBs.
Really don't know what to think about Jackson. He's great when healthy. He just hasn't been healthy consistently the last 2 years. If I get the kind of year he's capable of, he's as productive in fantasy as anyone.
How is any of that different than last year? And if the D isn't going to be good, the best thing you can do is grind it out and keep the opposing offense off the field. The biggest issue with him is Stewart.
