this reads like fan head cannon to me. Considering both have publicly condemned JK but haven't said anything since the announcement. EW has essentially retired from acting and DR is quoted as saying its too soon for him to conisder going back. He even cited SW saying that it was decades before they went back.
yes of course i know it's all about money. in my opinion I think a sequel with the original actors would gain more popularity than a reboot.
i mean just look at the billions disney has made off star wars just for shuffling out their original trio for mediocre to bad movies.
right, but what story can you tell with the OG trio that isn't cursed child unless they plan to decanonize it?
I don't really agree that a sequel with the original actors would be more popular. Who knows if the actors even want to do it and what would the story be? HP hasn't shown to have the fanbase that SW has and the fanbase isn't exactly at its strongest right now. A ton of people hate JK, not many people liked Cursed Child and the Fantastic Beast movies have been awful. The last FB barely made over $400 million worldwide on a $200+ million budget. If they came out with another new story and it bombed it could spell the end of the HP franchise on screen for a while. It's smarter imo to go back to the books which are already known to be good. If this series succeeds then I'm sure they'll move forward with other stories just like HBO is doing with GoT.
Well, in a perfect world they buy off Rowling and hire a team of writers to draft a good sequel and/or prequel. And yes 100% erase cursed child from canon. I almost think she wrote that piece of shit just to sabotage any future sequels. I realize due to the current situation it seems like a reboot is probably the only feasible next step forward. I have pretty low expectations and I hope to be pleasantly surprised.
Star Wars starting out as a movie versus a book makes all the difference in creating a world outside of the original materials imo.
Never going to happen. She already has more money than god. She's never giving up creative control ov HP. She didn't write it.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a play written by Jack Thorne, based on an original story written by J. K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Thorne.
I’m fairly certain Thorne and Tiffany wrote it with JK signing off on the direction they were going. https://www.therowlinglibrary.com/2...lvement-in-harry-potter-and-the-cursed-child/ Here’s some detail on it
It’s one of the shittier pieces of fan fiction in existence. Wish JK had signed off on My Immortal instead. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Immortal_(fan_fiction)
Of course, that says: My Immortal is popularly regarded as one of the worst works of fan fiction ever written.
It’s painful. It was so incredibly awful that many hoped it was satire. I recognize too much of the young author self-insert trope to believe it was anything other than authentic.
I love Radcliffe's current career arc being in weird comedies or playing eccentric bad guys. He's kind of a terrible fit for HP though. He was fine as a young kid and he did a passable job as he got older but his strengths don't really line up with the role.
The OG trilogy should just sit this out. The only way it makes any sense at all is if they play their parents. This reduces ratcliffe to cameos, would require them to force feed Emma Watson in (which might actually make sense because she’s retired) and the largest role goes to Rupert playing Arthur.
Best thing to do is just try and make a completely different look and feel. No OG actors. Keep Hedwig's theme but the rest make brand new.
I think doing a tv show that is based on the books will flop. The movies are still on tv like 25 weeks a year. The fantastic beasts movies flopped because they totally abandoned hogwarts. a tv show set at hogwarts that isn’t a remake of the books is the way to go. I’m a huge Harry Potter fan-like read each of the books 12-15x, and I just have no interest in a series based on the books I think the first few episodes will get huge ratings, and then the second season will start and everyone will be like cool chamber of secrets I know exactly what is going to happen
I’d rather just read the books. The movies had their own charm, but I’m not into devoting several more hours watching a tv show where the outcome is known. And movies don’t suck up as much time.
I was also a kid, enamored with the series. And again it’s less time than a season dedicated. and no one can replace Emma
I’ve definitely read them over 10 times, but I probably haven’t read any of them in at least 7+ years. The movies are on about every week it seems like. Did re-read the first couple of chapters of Deathly Hallows a month or so back.
I’ve stopped rereading the canon books because that bitch isn’t getting another royalty check out o’ me! /joke
Had no idea things rose to this level. I loved the books but only did a once through for all of them. Was there something you felt like you missed in the first read through that kept you coming back for more? Or simply enjoyed it all so much you felt like reliving it? Personally, Don Quixote is my all-time book, and I really want to give it a re-read. But I feel like there’s so much literature out there that I still haven't tackled yet, and maybe something else will pop up that usurps it’s throne. Basically FOMO in book form. Doesn’t help that American Pastoral is in the process of blowing my mind.
like lunchbox said, I was the perfect age when the books came out to grow up with them. Every time a new one was coming out, I’d start the series over. The series was a huge part of my youth and, despite JKR being shitty, it still holds that place.
I would read the books in order from the forest every time a new one came out. Then probably read 1-7 again a couple of times after that.
Between reading and books on tape/audiobooks I'm definitely 15+ times. Currently in a re-listen and on book 4. GoF is one of my favorites and I can't wait to watch it get the HBO 10 episode treatment.
This guy is kind of a dork, but I like some of the suggestions to set the show apart from the movies. Some are obvious, but a lot of them didn't even cross my mind
