EA returns to golf. The previews look great and having an official Augusta National, Pebble Beach and Saint Andrews might be worth it alone. I played the hell out of PGA 2k22 and like the swing mechanics of that and previous Golf Club games so hopefully they can replicate that, but I played a trial of 2K23 and was bored and didn't like it that much, even playing as Tiger. I'm sure EA will find a way to fuck this up but the courses and graphics might be enough to buy. I'll probably do a $5 EA Play monthly trial to see how it is at release.
EA Sports PGA Tour course list Augusta National St. Andrews (Old Course) Pebble Beach The Country Club Southern Hills TPC Sawgrass Evian Resort East Lake Wilmington Country Club TPC Boston TPC Southwind Teeth of the Dog TPC Scottsdale Tara Iti Whistling Straits The Ocean Course at Kiawah Chambers Bay Wolf Creek Liberty National Bay Hill Riviera Country Club PGA West Quail Hollow Torrey Pines Banff Springs Top of the Rock Bandon Dunes Harbour Town
I've been playing 2K23 and plan on buying EA Sports when it comes out. I'm sure EA will end up being a better game because the graphics and presentation on 2K are dogshit but 2K definitely seems like it will be more fun for online so hopefully EA figures out how to add: course creator (so you can play other people's random courses), crossplay, and societies- I think EA called them country clubs back in the day but I haven't seen it mentioned
Just an FYI for PS5 users, you can get one month of EA Play for $1 until the end of March. You'll be able to play the 10 hour trial for PGA Tour starting on the 4th plus 10% discount if you decide to buy it.
Early TW games were so damn good, even if not realistic. Loved getting a huge power boost and crazy spin, lol.
Playing a little more right now. It's a little better than when I first tried last night. The tournament mode seems like it could be sweet if they do it right. Basically you want to come in the top 75%, it says you earn some sort of ranking. Some free tourneys and some require an entry fee. There's definitely room for improvement with the post shot camera (or I'm just not used to it) and I like the ball play around the green better than 2K's.
The game tokens or whatever they’re called. The tokens that you buy clothes and upgrades with You also earn XP for completing the round. Stepped out for dinner but am going to try the career mode later on.
https://www.operationsports.com/os-reacts-ea-sports-pga-tour-first-impressions/ This article is a pretty good summary of my feelings. It is growing on me a little bit. The gameplay is just so different than every other golf game that I have played before
It's on EA play, character creation sucks, very limited. Leveling up feels good, swinging feels slow AF compared to 2k23 even set on fast, it's hilariously slow. Feels real clunky and glitchy on PC (likely made for consoles and ported to PC). Overall it was likely rushed to get out Masters week and it shows. Needs a patch quick to work out the kinks IMO. Not sure I'll be buying just yet.
It's 30 fps on console which might explain why it feels bad even when I switched from uncapped to 60 frames. If it takes running on 30 frames to make it feel right that's a miss.
At the very least, I'd say signing up for EA Play to try it out is absolutely worth it specifically just to play Augusta this week. I've played it a lot over the years on various systems, most recently the LiDAR version on TGC 2019 on PC/Skytrak. It's never played this hard and for the right reasons. Looks and feels absolutely spectacular
I like the game after playing through the free play. Bought it. Swing is definitely slow, but have overall enjoyed the rounds I have played.
2K is not great, but from a golfing standpoint it hits the mark. Also, the created courses provide a ton of replay-ability. However, still not great considering the previous editions before 2K came in
Posted in the golf thread already but: Just an fyi: you get free sensors and an Arccos Link for $79 + 45 day membership with purchase
And follow up. Complaints about this game are justified. But when it comes down to it, I really feel like I’m playing golf. Thought process, the way the ball moves, the differences between how the courses play, course management all on point. The act of swinging feels better in 2K by a large margin, but this feels like golf. Gonna stick with it
As others have mentioned, the back swing is horrendously slow and camera angle is awful. Auto tap ins are painfully slow too and there are a lot of other issues with it, but it looks and (for most part) feels nice. Most of the issues can be fixed with patches and hope they do that, but reading about NHL 23 and other EA titles doesn't make me optimistic about that either. Still on the fence but leaning buy.
That’s me majority of shots. The old Zorro slash Blew my mind when I saw people on Twitch dead center lining every swing
Can you even quit your Career Mode once you start or do you have to delete your golfer? Also, tried playing a match with a buddy and he selected a pro, it made me choose my created golfer, but yet showed Brooks Koepka as me to him the whole time. WTF?
Starting to like it more and more, putting is still a challenge, and the occasional grid being flat out backwards is a feels bad. Fix the green grids, add in borderless full screen on PC and I'll be happy.
It’s wild to me on the tournaments mode that there’s guys going -19 at Augusta on sim. How are you that good at the game already? I finished in the top 0-5% range in one of the daily tournaments but don’t see myself ever being remotely that good
some of it is cheating I’d guess, but I did watch a twitch stream of some known 2K dude who dead straight lined every swing the whole round using the swing technique he’d perfected in 2K and went pretty low in EA. I asked and he linked me to a YT video but added the caveat it took tons of practice to get down. I have zero interest in putting that much effort into a video game golf swing But if you're curious:
