Probably need to raise the unpopular opinion shield here but this seems like an over pay for a guy that produces but doesn't have the ceiling of a Jefferson, Chase, or AJ Brown. Assuming Sewell get's the same market setting deal (which I'm way more comfortable with) things are gonna look real dicey on a Goff resigning. Silver lining is Jefferson is probably going to demand 75% of the Vikings cap now...
It’s an overpay right now but there are a bunch of WRs beyond Jefferson waiting on extensions. Had we waited, we probably still end up in the same place.
You're not necessarily wrong, but I think it's worth waiting to feel this way until we see what the actual deal is instead of the one fed to Rapoport by St. Brown's agents wanting credit for making him "the highest paid WR in the NFL" in the announcement tweet.
Yup, almost added that caveat but $77 million is still $77 million. It's the right move and you could see him being a problem this year if they didn't get something done so I totally understand why they did it but it's just gonna present some interesting problems for the FO next offseason.
I just think he was always going to end up in this range. Michael Pittman got something like $23M per year this offseason. The cap has skyrocketed and high level guys get $25M+ per year now. I also never know when these "extensions" in football start. Is this a 4-year deal that starts in 2024? Or is it go 4 years after 2024?
From Breer: • Among the teams exploring a trade up are the Detroit Lions, who are sitting at 29. After two consecutive years of multiple first-round picks (which brought them Aidan Hutchinson, Jameson Williams, Jahmyr Gibbs and Jack Campbell), the Lions are likely looking for an edge opposite Hutchinson, or perhaps another corner.
Or, the Broncos have very few picks this season and we should trade a couple 1s to them for Surtain to help them move up for Maye or McCarthy. Let's make that happen.
I Llove the Lions making these two the highest paid guys at their positions without any drama or acrimony. It is a better business decision than trying to nickel and dime your superstars.
I also enjoy the shitting of the pants that likely happened on Dallas and Minnesota when the ARSB deal was announced.
Financially it probably doesn’t make sense but he’s a great pass rusher and he has ties to Campbell and Glenn from NO.
Bears are putting a roof on their new stadium in Chicago. One less potential late season weather game.
I’m on the “mortgage everything for Surtain and win the Super Bowl this year” bandwagon. Also, how much does Aiyuk make this year? He’d basically be a rental, but he’d be great for us too.
St. Brown's deal is kind of weird with the cap # higher in 26 than 27. It is a four-year extension starting in 2025, technically. The 2028 number he'll almost certainly never see for one reason or another. Ultimately I'm just kind of shocked that Sewell's deal came in lower and more cap friendly than St. Brown's, although the guaranteed $$ is higher.
13 picks and no cb or de gone. I think a trade up is very likely (or even better someone falls to us)
I don't know if this board makes it more or less likely we trade up. Given the way Holmes has drafted before, I'm thinking more likely
Fuck I'd take Fautanu too and move him to Guard (which there has been chatter about). Feel like I'm him, Verse or one of top 2 CB now
Fuck we still got 10 picks before ours, I'm not used to this. All 4 guys I listed probably gone by then
No he'd have been great for us. Not sure he's a 1A high sack guy, but he'd thrive playing LE opposite Hutch.
Michigan wolverines or Michigan panthers Kicker? Would be a bold strategy to just try and draft the panthers Kicker to make sure we get him
