Never read the book, but I’m definitely going to give this a shot. Looks interesting in an Almost Famous kind of way. It's on Prime. (Watched the first episode and it is a solid start.) “In Daisy Jones & the Six, Daisy Jones is young, beautiful, talented and just beginning her ascent into music stardom when a producer pairs her up with The Six, an up-and-coming blues-rock band. Daisy Jones & the Six tells their story in all its unruly, sex-crazed, drug-fueled glory. Daisy is blessed in every way -- looks, money, talent -- but is also wild, reckless and filled with hubris.”
Book was interesting and a quick read but I’m curious as to how well they adapt it. I’ve read some previews that sound pretty good.
Wife read the book, so watching with her. Like it so far. Elvis’s granddaughter casted as Daisy is cool.
How is everyone liking the show? There are all the aspects of a good show, but also feels kind of flat.
I watched it because I really liked the feel of the book but they missed it in the show. Felt like they could have found better actors and the decision to have the actors perform all the original music was risky and failed in my opinion.
Sadly this show is extremely mediocre. I don’t hate it, but definitely disappointed. Thought it was building to something with the making of the Aurora album, but instead it turned into a dud. It’s like watching the Disney version of the making of Rumours.
Just finished it. They should have dubbed pro singers over the vocals. Just not believable that Riley Keough went multi platinum with that voice. The British guy wasn’t any good either.
If that's the biggest criticism you have, I think show should have been pretty good to you. I didnt have an issue with the singing and music at all. It seemed to fit in well with they style and era. Not to be a book dork, but they changed a lot of things from the book and as a result the whole story is just meh and flat.
Maybe that’s part of it. I loved the book and thought the story was better in the print version. This version failed to convince me in much of anything. The songs would have been better dubbed though. None of those actors can sing.
I’ll spoiler in case someone wants to read the book Spoiler I think biggest changes that impacted the show were - Billy and Daisy never kissed or became romantic. They were sole mates artistically and despite Daisy’s confessions of love, he never crossed the line. Billy loved her and everyone knew it, but it went unspoken. He’d never betray Camila after getting a second chance. - For the same reasons, he never broke his sobriety. There were several times he considered quitting the band because he thought it was a threat to his sobriety and his family. - They barely touched on it, but their daughter absolutely idolized Daisy. She was a super fan. They needed to play that up more in the show because that’s what makes the reveal of her being the documentarian hit hard. In the book Camila also leaves a note for the daughter to get Billy to reconnect w Daisy after she passes. It’s way more sentimental because Billy never betrayed her and became the man she willed him to be after the early fuck ups. It’s kind of hard to describe. The book just had a pathos that didn’t translate to the show. I think those changes were why. Idk. There’s other minor stuff. Daisy is a much bigger POS and addict. But she also has a charisma about it where she gets away w it. I think that would have been really difficult to portray on TV and still make her likable. Karen’s personality is way different. She’s a bubbly American, but her and Grahams story is the same.
Just finished it. Thought it was decent and reasonably entertaining, although other than 2-3 ok songs, the rest were just hot garbage with a few being laughably bad. Actors were fine. Daisy often looked like a tall, thin Drew Barrymore - kind of expected her to phone home more often. Record producer played George's boss with the Yankees, Mr. Morgan on Seinfeld. Could not unsee that after figuring it out. Give the series a solid 6.0 / 10 ...
Yeah just finished it and it was a good watch. I feel a bit dirty saying it but I actually like some of the tracks.
Thought it was a good Friday night tv show watch for the wife and I. Actually kinda liked the music but I’m a sucker for any type of music that tries to imitate the laurel canyon sound.
Same. Hell my wife ordered the fictional album on vinyl. Overall, it's not a bad record. I'm safe to assume you've seen the doc Echo in the Canyon?
Multiple times - my go to doc when I’m alone, have nothing to do and want to drink some beers while watching something.
Wonder how popular it is, because I swear I heard one of the tracks playing in a large medical facility lobby yesterday ...
i'm through four episodes and i'm digging it so far, music included. i'm surprised at the so-so reception itt and on reddit. i don't particularly like the daisy/billy stuff so far but it's pretty good otherwise.
