New green lantern, new uncanny x men, the immortal hulk, marvel knights, heroes in crisis, batman, westcoast avengers, Doctor Strange
AH. I'm not into the superhero comics. I have a bunch of current comics downloaded but with new issues coming out a month apart I have a hard time keeping track of what is going on so I only keep up with The Walking Dead. I got all caught up on Saga at one point then when the next issue came out I started reading and was like "well shit, none of this makes sense now because I can't remember shit about what I read a month ago." Completed comic series/graphic novels I have read include: 28 Days Later Alex + Ada Blankets Bone Essex County Infinite Horizon Jane Locke & Key Preacher Scalped We Stand On Guard Y: The Last Man
Ive heard good things about saga. I also like the show Preacher, so I probably would like the books. Any other recs?
I've only read parts if any at all but they all seem to have a pretty good reputation. Some of them are more along the line of graphic novel as opposed to comic book though. 100 Bullets American Vampire Berlin Calexit Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Deadly Class DMZ - never have been able to get it finished because it is a pretty long one, but it's good East of West Fables Giant Days Harrow County Hellblazer Indoctrination Lucifer Lumberjanes Maus I and Maus II - literary classics from what I have read, actually won one of the Pulitzer special awards that have only been given out 44 times. Time put it at seventh place on their list of best non-fiction books from between 1923 and 2005 Outcast Paper Girls The Sandman - there is a whole gigantic Sandman universe Sex Criminals Southern Bastards The Wicked + The Divine Valerian and Laureline
When I am done with my current job at the end of the calendar year, I intend on getting back into reading comic books. Some of the most creative story telling in the literary world comes from comics.
Also, from my first list, I'd rank the top three as Y: The Last Man, Scalped, and Bone. Y is going to be a TV show on FX and I can't wait.
Bump Pelican Grove Going to the local comic store in Saturday since it's free comic book day. I have no idea what I'm going to get an know nothing, but YOLO
I got chuck brown to autograph my copy of volume 1, issue 1 at scratch and spin like 6 months ago. Shits great. It's just about this black family from Harlem who go around killing cracker assholes.
Nice. I know Chuck too and I have #1 but haven’t read it yet. I followed the Sanford Greene guy on Instagram and he has really cool artwork
House of X and Powers of X are incredible reads right now. And I haven't read X-Men regularly for years.
Picked up HoX1 and PoX1 this weekend. I’m a little overwhelmed/confused trying to figure it all out, but it’s definitely intriguing.
Amazon just delivered Curse of the White Knight, Red Hood Lost Days, Under the Red Hood, and Three Jokers. I recently finished Black Mirror and I am half way through White Knight.
Three Jokers was pretty good. Real short though. Looks like a sequel is in he works but won’t be out for a long time.
Agreed. I feel like they could explore that world a lot more. I’m now rereading the Dark Knight Returns series. I didn't know there was a prequel and another sequel with the new Robin. So 5 books total now.
Y is great. Hulu TV adaptation coming this fall. What I’ve read of Saga I really like. Sandman is in the GOAT discussion and has quite a sprawling universe of follow ups and spin-offs. The Lucifer TV is based off one of the Sandman characters, though not generally based on any comic book material.
All 3 are great. If you like Y and Saga I'd recommend Paper Girls. It's another book by BKV and it's only 30 issues. Reminds me that Saga is coming up on the 3 year mark of its hiatus. Really hope it's back soon.
Read the first compendium volume of Invincible bc I liked the show a lot. Think I’ll just stick with the show. Much better imo
Still recommend getting the complete series of this: Only has like two or three short volumes to read through.
Batman Earth One Vol 3 was pretty good. They all set up the next one. Now I need Vol 4 now damnit. I went to a local comic shop and picked up Court of Owls, City of Owls, What Happened to the Caped Crusader, and Batman & Robin Reborn. I’ve got Flashpoint on deck.
Hello all, I just got done reading DCeased and loved it. I wanna read Invincible but seems like ALOT. Thanks Tex for showing me this thread. Are we doing manga here as well? I'm considering diving into MHA
How was DCeased? I don't know why but those and the Metal ones don’t interest me that much. I’m sure one day I’ll get to them. I don't know shit about manga. I say post it here or make a manga thread?
I read Metal it's a lot I don't know if I'd recommend it but seeing how the different Evil Batman's came to be is pretty cool and brutal. I highly recommend Dceased probably one of my favorite recent reads. I listened to one of the books on Comics Explained and decided to give it a shot. Ended up loving it.
Pretty heavy into manga myself Not sure how many people here actually read it, but I’m always down to discuss. Ironically, was never really able to get into BNHA
Do you have any preference on what you are looking for? Manga that I’m currently reading or have finished - SnK, Death Note, HxH, FMA, Vinland Saga, KnY, Tokyo Ghoul, Chainsaw Man, Tokyo Revengers, JJK. If you are new to manga and were already looking at BNHA, you can’t go wrong with JJK. It’s my favorite ongoing manga right now. Only downside is that’s it’s on hiatus due to the authors health (manga industry is notoriously shitty to authors and works them to the bone). SnK just finished and is thought of as one of the greatest mangas of all time. Very violent with lots of mature themes. Has lots of morally gray characters and storylines.
No preference really, but I typically prefer something dark, DBS and BNHA are 100% outliers in my anime preference. SnK might be up my ally.
You can’t go wrong with SnK. I haven’t met anybody who doesn’t enjoy it. There are so many great characters. Also, you have no idea where the story is going to go. One of those things that is fun to look back on after you get to the end.
Only care about the ones that get a season of cartoons made and never heard from again. Seriously it's weird how that happens with anime shows with regularity.
Finished White Knight Harley Quinn last night. Pretty good. I enjoy the White Knight series and apparently another is on the way.
