Heard nate speak today. Think Nelson is coming back. Sears really wasn’t talked about Going to take time hiring third assistant. Doesn’t care about recruiting with this hire strictly defense
Nelson coming back at the 4 would be really nice if he continues to develop and work on his role there. I’m all for the 3rd hire being a straight defensive coach. Oats and Murphy are good enough recruiting, Pannone has experience in the pros and is a straight film junkie so that helps with recruiting even if he’s not necessarily a “recruiter”
Nah, go get you a 3 in the portal. Start Nelson at the 4. Stevenson backing him. Rutgers kid at center. Aiden Sherrill backing him.
Let me dream here. Sears/Holloway Wrightsell/Youngblood Mallate/Reid/Dioubate Nelson/Stevenson Rutgers kid/Aiden Sherrill
I guarantee Nate will say something about Holloway’s last coaches discouraging his shooting at some point
“At Auburn, I kind of got sold a dream by my coach," he told Bama247. "The season started out good for me individually and as a team, and then he kind of went in a different direction (with) the offense. I was just kind of taken out of the offense as a playmaker, and, like, a decision-maker. I was just on the court when it came to offense. It was just tough for me." Holloway said there was an understanding on the type of player he is when he was getting recruited by Auburn, but it didn't translate. There is zero worry or hesitation when it comes to being recruited by Alabama. "With Nate Oats, there isn't any of that," he explained. "That's the biggest thing I have learned this past year. With Nate Oats and the Alabama team, it's just basketball. If you're open, shoot. "It's back to basketball and having fun," Holloway added. “I just want to get back to having fun and being myself." "That was another thing that really made 'Bama stand out," Holloway said. "They didn't really recruit me coming out of high school which is understandable because they had guards. They had Jaden Bradley, Jahvon Quinerly and Mark Sears. It was understandable and just coming off a bad season for me, and them still having me at the top of their list and still going after me and still believing in my game and that I was a fit for their team and them going to the Final Four, it's just shows the real side of respect and belief in my game. "I really appreciated that from Nate and the whole staff. I just can't wait to get to work, man." "Just watching how they mirror the NBA play style and just how the bigs know how to get their guards involved and the guards know how to get their bigs involved," Holloway explained. "It's not 'Oh, you can shoot, but he can't shoot.' It's if you're open, shoot it, and I just got to get back to that." He continuing while comparing the offense in Tuscaloosa to some of the best in the NBA. "It was just crazy seeing the resemblance of the Alabama play-style when watching the Indiana Pacers. Then you look at some set from the Warriors' play style, it's like a perfect resemblance." "It feels great," he said about teaming up with those guys and the rest of the roster. "Just playing how Nate (Oats) wants us to play. If you got good shooters around you, it just makes the game way easier because the defense can't help as much. It makes it way easier." Holloway played his high school ball at Prolific Prep (Napa, CA) which is the same prep academy as five-star signees Derrion Reid and Aiden Sherrell (No. 7 C). The No. 3 overall recruiting class is rounded out by four-star Naas Cunningham (No. 11 SF). He didn't team up with the Alabama signees, but already knows the type of players on the way. "Just them coming from coach (Ryan) Bernardi and where I was at, I know what type of players they are. I know the type of players coach likes to bring in. You know, we are just going to have some fun. It's going be a little Prolific ties, but it's 'Bama now. Time to get to work and get rolling." "I'm really a chill dude," he said. "I try to stay out of the way. Off the court, I love playing video games. It's just great vibes. I just try to be as cool as possible and treat people like they treat me." On the court is a different story. "Crazy, get some wins. Make some shots. Get my teammates involved. Make a couple nice moves (and) try to get Alabama fans a show."
We lead for last year’s Lou Groza winner who just got in the portal from Miami (OH). What a huge pickup that would be
this is a good point but Youngblood definitely seems like a bigger guard who can finish at the rim. Wrightsell is solid at that, but not as good as Griffen and Estrada and Sears were.
Return Sears and I’m not really worried about finishing at the rim by our guards. Not to mention we are adding Reid who is a good finisher. Cunningham is a long kid who should be able to finish at the rim.
