That Jordan guy never seemed to know anything, but he seems to be a decent guy with a good sense of humor.
I would say that there are pretty mixed opinions on him in this thread. I've never been a fan, and I know at least a few others that feel the same.
New York’s hottest club is Alabama! It’s got everything: micropenis guy at Bass Pro Shop, Conner the urn guy, and Nick Saban retiring!
He’s got more feathers in his hat than Lanning, who’s best win is Liberty I guess? And I’m not a huge Lane proponent, but we could do so much worse.
The job he's done at Ole Miss is very impressive, but he's far from a home run. But Lanning is in the same boat - he's built something solid there and fits the mold but what exactly has he won? And he walked into a program that had talent and money and has won pretty consistently for 25 years. Nobody is gonna be Saban. All the options have flaws. The only can't miss coach out there is Kirby Smart, and he's not an option.
Lane has an incredibly high floor, and a fairly low ceiling. His single biggest attribute is that he’s so arrogant, following Saban wouldnt burden him in the slightest.
Absolutely. In the immediate post-Saban era, Lanning is a risk worth taking. Young and from the same mold, so if you hit, you’ve got another 15+ year guy, if not, well, you’ve saved on buyouts for 20 years, so you can try again.
Lane is a boom-or-bust coach and I'm positive if he were successful here he would leave. I know a lot of people said that about the last coach we hired but he is miles behind Saban in character.
I think the biggest thing Lane has proven the last 3 years is that his bust level is much lower than it was before. He went 8-4 in the regular season last year and that was his "bad" year. At Ole Miss. But he could also absolutely prove to be the man child he was before and unravel. But man, what a show it would be!
I prefer a guy like Lanning bc I think like Kirby & Saban he builds "teams". Kiffin is great at exploiting mismatches but I don't know how good he is at team building
I’m going all-in on Lanning in multiple threads. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll pretend to be embarrassed for a day or two.
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning reaffirmed his commitment to the school after he was linked with the newly vacated position at Texas A&M. "I'm not going anywhere," he told reporters Monday. "There's zero chance I'm coaching somewhere else."
I want an organized process oriented guy that will run it like a professional organization with a solid foundation. Lane is not said dude. I think he’d win games on sheer offensive genius and do a decent job of roster management via whatever charisma he has going for him in recruiting. Lanning is the best option. Then Lane is in the next tier.
We'd probably win the national title next year. And maybe another after that. And it would end in flames soon after. I've had enough of those titles to honestly say it'd feel scummy and I'd prefer to roll the dice with somebody else.
I think this is probably correct. I will be honest, I don't know a whole lot about Lanning in-depth as a CEO/head coach other than what I see on TV. I assume he's built and operates that way just given his coaching upbringing?
