To answer SOG's question about what to expect Saturday: Go find the Mac And Cube podcast from yesterday. Cube talks extensively about what needs to happen to fix the OL. And Mac too. It sounds like our OL coaching just blows. The offensive gameplan has failed to adapt and thus blows as well.
I think it's safe to assume our OL will be an absolute dumpster fire. I expect to see edge rushers and interior gap rushers running free at Milroe. The screen game will continue to be horrible. Milroe will continue to be asked to sit in the pocket and make multi read throws because Rees and Saban are morons. I guess we're hoping against hope that Milroe can make some intermediate throws downfield. The running game should be decent. Ole Miss isn't as tough in the middle or in the front as Texas. Milroe will connect on a few deep balls. But he'll also probably throw at least one INT. He'll also have a couple of long runs. So I think we'll score about 24 points. Maybe 27. I think our defense is actually pretty good and will hold them to about 24 points. Maybe a tad less.
I am representing the tide even in Italy by wearing the houndstooth hat they gave out before the Arkansas game in 2007.
Is it sad that my best hope for this game is Lane over thinks something and does something silly like go for a 4th and 6 on his own 25?
I agree with most of this, and I don’t think OM has a lot of defensive talent, but Pete did see Jalen at practice everyday, so I’m sure he will do something to confuse Jalen into a turnover or 2.
Trey Jermaine Burton’s lack of effort certainly supports this theory. He’s rising to Javon Quinerly levels of disdain.
I wish we’d adopt a lot more zone reads and designed QB runs when teams are playing two safeties back. When we’ve shown a real commitment to the run game we’re not bad. As soon as teams decide to creep that extra defender up we hit over the top with play action
https://www.espn.com/college-footba...ck-saban-alabama-football-quarterback-problem Bit of a nothingburger but thought I’d share either way
Hearing the team doesn't like Ty Simpson. The WRs want Lonergan but we don't want to throw him to the wolves with this OL. And the stuff Kiffin has been saying actually isn't untrue. I asked why Saban would supplant Steele this early in the season which would basically mean he thinks Steele can't run the defense and that Steele is catastrophically bad....was not able to get a straight answer on this.
The explanation I got was that Steele is coaching the coaches, he still has input but Trob is calling the plays.
Maybe Saturday was our 2008 Tulane game. They were a 2-10 team that gave us fits in protection and we won 20-6 at home
I hope this is the case but it is looking more likely that Wolford is just hopelessly unqualified and our OL is swiss cheese
Really odd to me considering what he did at Kentucky. Wonder what the deal is. Or if we are missing something about his time at UK
I'm not sure how many shit rosters we have to trot out there before you guys realize the strength and conditioning in our program sucks ass. It's quite obvious. We used to have a major physical advantage every week and now we are getting whipped around by USF. it's not just the position coaches or coordinators. It's a systemic problem.
Is it? Because we're all pretty convinced DL is a personel issue for a few years. ILB improved with different players/coaching almost immediately. Haven't seen an S&C issue with other positions like WR or DBs. The decision for our OL to gain 400lbs collectively isn't an S&C or nutrition decision, that's a Wolf/Saban choice. So yeah seems weird to call it an S&C issue that only affects 1 unit.
I think s&c isn't what it used to be, but I think it's straight up poor evaluation + not getting the kids we used to get. Is this going to be the first year in who knows how long we don't have a first rounder? Kool-Aid hasn't looked the part so far, imo
I mean theoretically we should have a couple beefy Texas boys on the OL but unsurprisingly they turned out to be soft titty babies.
I think the issues permeate from the top down. But the strength staff is who is with the team all offseason when they are getting fat and slow. Not the position coach. I think if you're going to blame anyone besides Saban it would be the people overseeing the strength and conditioning staff.
It only follows that we have to attribute defensive improvement to them as well then? Your logic is ass.
I think all the QB controversy and overall team dysfunction has a clear and unfortunate cause - Spoiler Race war
the jury is still out on the defense this year. they seem to have a pulse for the first time in a few years so that is great. but our defense hasn't physically dominated a half decent offense in a very long time. We used to do it weekly. It can't all be scheme and recruiting. we aren't developing players physically like we used to.
Fair enough. I do think ILB improvement is pretty apparent with the coaching. I mostly just expected some step up in OL after Marrone left and we've seen maybe zero or negative improvement. That's what shocks me.
