i fucking hate DICE. Ive watched so many youtube videos shitting on the game that now i cant stop watching more of them. But this comment killed me Emil Örn 3 days ago (edited) Something that has been bugging me from the start with BF2042 is the UX. It is like the sole intention is to get you to STOP playing. I think it's so weird no one is talking about this because to me it's so obvious. I have three good examples: 1. When you end a match then you are thrown back to the menu screen and a timer starts where it's basically counting down how much time you have to cancel before it tries to matchmake again. This is like a subtle hint basically telling you to log off. In any other recent battlefield game, there will always be incentives to get you to just play "one more time". First of all, you are not thrown all the way back to the menu screen and second, you can see how much you earned this game and how much you need to progress to reach the next "thing". 2. When you do decide to quit/cancel matchmaking, you need to press Start/Option/ESC. In every other Battlefield game, the default option is NO and you need to move to the side to select YES. or there is a "Do you really want to quit" mentality as of course the game wants you to play as much as possible. In BF2042 the default option is just Yes quit. Like the game is again telling you: "please play something else". 3. When you are matchmaking, it always takes you from the main menu screen to the waiting for your squad screen - giving you the indication that you did find a game but then you just need to wait forever to find squadmates and there is no indication on how many other squads there are or anything. This experience of uncertainty is what pushes me to quit rather than wait it out. These are design CHOICES, not something that is being overlooked.
Does BF3 or 4 still have an active player base? Was excited for 2042, but obviously not going to buy it seeing how reviews are so I’ve been stuck playing BF1. I would like to play something more modern though.
https://www.ea.com/games/battlefiel...&utm_medium=social&cid=73215&ts=1646236978256 I’m sure this will be ready by next year.
I played online shooters 20 years ago. It had voice chat and a scoreboard. The playbook exists but they refuse to use it. Obviously they didn’t listen to the dev team, what makes anyone think they’ll listen to some fans who largely have no clue how to make a video game? Truly remarkable how out of touch they are and how poorly they continue to handle this. They are like the Russians of the video game world.
Westin or Stodeh (so?) did a good historical take on BFV and B2042 today. Basically chronicles the time line of both games and gets you good and angry. I’ve probably been done for a month now. Certainly not opposed to picking it up when new content is added. I don’t really care about the map fixes since I’ve played through each level many times over.
I haven't played in months. I'm mad at myself for even buying it. Probably done with the franchise because EA keeps getting worse.
There's nothing they can do about the maps because the artifacts that would be needed to change everything will tank the FPS more than it already has. How are they going to optimize the game on top of redesigning the maps lol. Theyre going to have to gut them and drop the player count to 100 or 64. These people are incompetent. There isnt anything else to say. They got fat and lazy and way to liberal with what they think the fanbase should be playing vs what they actually want to play.
Activision announced last month that COD has made them $27 Billion in revenue since it's been out. Not knocking the game, it is what it is, people like what they like. I'm not embarrassed to say that I'd absolutely buy the same BF game, redux, every year if the core game play was solid.
Exactly. Nobody was asking for whole sale changes to the franchise. All we wanted was a new, prettier, smoother BF4.
I'm not playing it again unless some miraculous overhaul occurs, and even then..... Part of me wants this game to go belly up so they don't fuck up this hard again, but I doubt they learn anything. I've been playing BFV and it's still a lot of fun.
Next BF will be FTP. Streamlined. 3-4 maps at the start and then theyll beg for money. This has been so bad theyre going to have to go that route. No one is paying a nickel for anything if DICE is involved and they see big moves. There is too much media coverage crushing the entire operation. No one will give the next game the benefit of the doubt because even the people that were clearly paid to give decent reviews risk even more backlash
Anyone actually buy that EA wants to fix this game? Imagine they do one patch, it flops and that's probably it for battlefield. Such a shame that whoever is in charge couldn't see they had a fantastic formula and could just kept iterating off that. Instead we get this gigantic piece of shit.
I've talked a lot of shit on this game. I gave it another try with the new map, and dare I say it feels....better? New map is actually great. A lot of bugs gone. Still broken at its core, and no comms or ability to switch squads. Maybe 2 years after release we'll finally have a competent game. It'll be just in time for the next unfinished Battlefield title release.
From some of the reports going around they have a skeleton crew working on this. Just enough to fulfill their obligations of the pass they sold and then it's being dropped.
Agreed that it’s still broken at its core, but this map is really great. If the launch had maybe 4 more maps of this quality and no specialist it would’ve stood a chance. I’m actually having battlefield fun playing exodus. It’s the small things that kill the vibe for me still. Like the unpredictable game flow. Dying in this game is mostly due to being out vastly numbered. Like 10v2 scenarios and the like. 128 players sounds awesome at first, and exodus has done a better job at breaking up sectors/play style, but I think it’s just too much to make anything feel impactful. I will say that exodus is nailing the sandbox feel. One last thing, something is still off with this cross play experience. Auto aim needs a buff for consoles.

Long range engagements are an auto loss to pc.
Tank superiority and BF3 air superiority are fun portal modes. The addition of attack jets has been great and they need to add them to the full game. Their flights mechanics are spot on and hopefully they use that model on the rest of the jets.
Not gonna lie, been playing and enjoying this more lately. I only main Rao and I've figured out how to wreck shit with him.
Definitely in a better spot… still miles away from being a good game. The map reworks look good but they’re coming at a snails pace and only one map per season. They’re doing the bare minimum. Lack of weapons is still baffling.
I've been enjoying the new map on Conquest and especially Breakthrough with the infantry only focus. Still surprised by a lack of official TDM servers and limited gun options.
Game is actually pretty enjoyable now. Still needs squads comms. I think this game joins a bunch of other recent games that release broken, and only become playable 1+ years after they release. Stupid fucking trend.
The squad system is still bad and forced cross play sucks. I don't want to play against PC players. They've made great strides but those two things prevent me from playing.
Yeah I get smoked way more than I did in BFV. Doesn't even matter if I turn aim sensitivity up because the controller isn't that precise. Idk, I'm having some fun with it.
Just watching JackFrags plays and it's completely different. Guns are laser beams on PC. He kills people at ranges I wouldn't even shoot from with an automatic weapon. It's just not fair. Cross play is the worst thing to happen to competitive online.
I’d enjoy this game 10x more if it was console only. I haven’t played much since the class rework, which didn’t wow me, but did play two games on the discarded rework. Holy cow it’s amazing how much a map can change the game. Pacing and cover on that map are much improved. BF conquest is at its best when there’s multiple front lines formed between flags and it seems like this rework got it right. What a different story this could’ve been if the game had better maps, no specialists, and more destruction at launch.
Make the thread. I'll buy it. I'm a HLL guy (whenever I can play) but I could use a quick shooty shoot that doesn't require an hour and half to determine if we won or not.
It’s perfect for that. Total chaos all the time, people talking funny shit on mics when people die. Literally doesn’t matter if you win or lose. bullets flying everywhere, random kamikazee enemies sneaking back lines, or chill and snipe across the map
