I will refrain from judging line deliveries in trailers outside of context but some of those were ehh Hoping it kicks ass!
Hello, yes. A few questions for the show and I'll hang up and listen: Is this a self-contained story that can be viewed and potentially enjoyed by someone who hasn't seen a second of anime in their life? (and don't plan on watching any prior to viewing just to make this a better experience) Is it based on source material that's good shit and has already had a cartoon adaptation and this is just the live action version? essentially would be "does netflix fuck up or do justice to what could be awesome" type scenario? If yes to source material - does this have potential to be a 4+ season show?
If they do it like the anime it’ll be 3-4 seasons. Basically a season to learn each element, he already knows air. Should be able to go in blind from what I’ve seen from the trailer. Netflix will have an almost impossible time living up to the anime, it’s the highest rated of all time. They done a good job with One Piece but I’d go in expecting the worst and hope to be surprised.
I never watch any anime. I started the original out of curiosity because I saw it on a greatest show ever list and absolutely loved it. fantastic story and characters. I’m very skeptical this will do it justice. it would definitely be multiple seasons if they plan on telling the whole story. the anime was broken up into very clear seasons that each had a theme.
Just started the first episode. I have no clue on the source material as I never watched the anime series. I watched the movie but don’t know much about it. Pretty damn good so far. Not sure how it holds up to source material
The first episode is an almost shot for shot remake of the first episodes of the original series. They absolutely nailed the casting too.
“How did Katara and Sokka know how to get Appa off the ground without Aang telling them about yip yip?” -eye-rollingest complaint from my wife so far I mean, cmon. Not super important.
Made it to Omashu last night and I’m really liking it. I was a huge fan of the live action One Piece series Netflix did and knew nothing about it either
Just finished. Big fan of the Cartoon. Was not sure how I felt after two episodes but after watching it all I loved it. Ready for S2. Casting is fantastic. Everything is so well done. Hope filming is completed for everything. Don’t need the cast looking older. Can’t wait for Toph.
Sokka is the cringiest character/acting I’ve seen in quite some time. Enjoyed the rest of the first episode but jfc he’s trash
That’s what I was thinking. He’s playing to the original anime character. It’s super cheesy but that’s kind of the point
The fire prince is my least favorite but not having seen the original I was assuming he’s playing to the anime character as well. Same as Sokka
Through four episodes and loving it. These live action anime’s have surpassed my expectations so far.
Watched through episode 4 last night. I'm also assuming this is a "following the anime series" thing but given the setting and cast, it's throwing me off a little that all of these people speak in like Southern California dialect/accents instead of something like feudal japan. Doesn't bother me or worsen the show just makes me laugh sometimes when they say something like "It's really messing with my bending"
Halfway through. This seems as true to the anime as you can get. Hard to complain about it. The panic when the OG show runners quit was completely unncessary. Dani Puddi was fantastic as the machinest.
3 episodes in and I'm digging it, never watched the cartoon but I did see that shitty M.Night adaption. This series is light years better
Needs to be in the OP but the cartoon is absolutely fantastic and a must watch. I say this as someone who was never in to anime and didn't watch it until it hit netflix during covid so I don't have that young kid nostalgia factor to make me biased.
yeah, I was gonna circle back after finishing this live season, was thinking of a One Piece anime watch as well.
Just finished up. Had stopped at ep2 on release night and then was slowly getting poisoned by petty bitching on reddit. Such overblown complaints, binged through the rest today and it was really enjoyable. Iroh and Zuko bond and chemistry is even stronger here than the OG series. Can’t wait for their time in Ba Sing Se, where there is no war.
Yeah I dont understand the complaining. No one is going to do a exact remake of the Anime and if they did people would complain and just say watch the original. Of course they have to speed some things up.
There have been minor issues for me where I thought the anime did something better, I liked Iroh better in the anime, but it was still extremely well done.
Just finished the Zuko backstory conclusion episode and I ain’t gonna front, I cried like a girl with a skinned knee
Finished last night, thought it was excellent I will be starting the cartoon in the not so distant future Threw on the M.Night version today, watching it with the context of the live action show was an experience. I don’t know how M thought he could condense that much content into 102 minutes. It wasn’t as bad as I remember but iirc I was more confused, like what did I just watch when it first came out
Just finished. Daughter and I watched the anime a couple years ago so she was excited to watch this. Thought it was really well done and the casting was great. Anyone know when the next season is coming out?
Rewatching so it gets a season 2, better than the movie, good live action version of the Nickelodeon cartoon. Which wasn't anime despite having Asian people in it.
Hopefully they finish it up in one more filming. It’d be nice if we don’t end up with a 25 year old cast like Stranger Things.
Correct. For each of the elements he was learning pretty much. Gonna have to double up in s2 probably.
