Finished a couple weeks ago & forgot to post (started Light Bringer and forgot all about it)

6/10. Had super low expectations after the start but thought it actually got better and wasn’t that bad in the end. Not a normal genre for me and was kind of silly. Found myself not really liking Mallory. Felt like the author was just randomly throwing in social commentary through characters that wasn’t needed and had no influence on the story so kind of had to just ignore it.

Forgot to post my thoughts earlier this week

overall I’d give it a 6/10. Out of pure coincidence, I had been on a run of similar books this summer reading Riley Sager books, so I was excited about this one.

There were parts that were good and suspenseful, but the parents were so clearly awful people from early on. I didn’t see the actual twist coming but that didn’t do a whole lot for me.

I didn’t have issues while reading similar to what was pointed out in the review on page 1, but thinking back I can see where that person was coming from and would agree with Truman’s post on the subject.

Overall it was fine and a very quick read. I think I finished in 36 hours but I don’t anticipate going and reading his other book at this time

The Blackfish scratch Loteria because while the premise is interesting I can’t recommend the finished product. Some of the stories are decent but too short to have been completely flushed out. Some are so short you know they were just thrown in simply because their card is in the deck. Long or short every single card’s story just ends abruptly so much so that you have to go back and reread or listen to see what you missed. Ironically, the last story (which goes deviates from the formula set up in the rest of the book) and is about the deck/game as a whole is the most compelling story. The book would have been a ton better if it had simply been about the last chapter.
