There are very very few examples of a Mania main-event getting rerun as the next SummerSlam main-event, especially in a situation where the challenger and champ haven't swapped places. In fact, I can't think of any, but I'm sure there have been one or two, probably featuring Lesnar. edit: Lesnar(c) beat Reigns in the main-event of Mania 34 (for the Universal Title), then the same match was rerun as the SummerSlam main, with Reigns beating Lesnar(c) for the title.
Maybe this is all a big plan for Brock vs Cody vs Roman at SummerSlam. Cody wins, Brock eats the pin!
Easier said than done but I guess you could potentially salvage it by turning it into some kind of redemption story for Cody. Obviously the fans aren’t happy with the last two days, and maybe you could parlay that into more investment for when he finally does win. Issue is, it’s been 24 hours and fans are already over Vince returning so not sure you could keep them invested in that story (without them crapping on everything else) long enough to make it to SS.
I'm sure Vince has assurances from Endeavor on being able to run the day to day, but I wonder what the specifics of them are. like at what point would they be able to remove him if he starts running shit into the ground.
I read that his contract is pretty bulletproof but I can’t remember any of the details or even where I read it at this point.
It sounds like once he left it was under the promise he’d only work for NXT and immediately he was given a title working directly with the main roster. Khan has made comments when asked that border on being very annoyed with the situation.
I'm with you... this is classic IWC group think that believes if a talent drops a "f" bomb he's a good promo. White is mid. He would be mid in WWE till proven otherwise and he's going to be mid in AEW. What are they going to do with him? Some stale fucking Bullet Club shit?
His segment got cut as he was in the ring... Apparently we were going to have 3 or 4 NXT talents debut last night. One was pretty deadly in that segment with Rollins. Breaker was another talent cut and I believe a female act...
I'm way higher on him than you two. He main evented two WrestleKingdoms iirc. I thought he was great in the ring. Maybe a touch on the small side, so perhaps he's better served in AEW. I think he's somewhere between a very good to great talker, his accent and cadence makes him unique on the mic. AEW needs him probably more than WWE does, they're lacking for main event heels. He could slide right in to the top of the card and have excellent feuds with guys like Omega (history there), Cole, Starks, etc. If you say Omega is not technically a free agent, I'm not sure there's a bigger name out there than Switchblade.
I want AEW to succeed but TK isn't winning any WWE fan over because he can't tell a single storyline and can't explain why people are fighting each other outside of "dream match" Maybe 100-200k of the hard core fans who tuned out will give them another chance now that it's clear Vince is back and giving out bullshit. I didn't like RAW and I didn't like how the angle was done but Cody vs Brock is far from him being dead. ZPZ made a great point and its clear WWE isn't taking the title off Roman anytime soon. Not a Saudi, not a Backlash, not at Summer Slam... Maybe not till 40. So you get Cody away from him completely and tell a new story. Roman will move forward and center his storyline the next few months around the Uso's and the family. Nobody is defending Vince and his booking. This thread could book better than Vince. White isn't a top talent as you hype him to be. That's the point.
I don't mean to come off like I think the dude is trash. He's just not in the same ballpark as AJ, Kenny and people talk of him as such. With Vince back in charge I wouldn't want him in WWE because he stands no chance. Not to say he's a bad promo but a lot of times people see a talent in Japan or even AEW cut a promo and drop a curse and pop or they give a very inside baseball reference and people pop. But to me that's cheap and not what a good promo is... I remember when Juice Robinson was the flavor of the month and now he's on AEW and his promo is trash.
Yeah man it sucks... It really does. I fucking despise Vince. The moment I heard talent refer to the next PLE as "Wrestlemania Backlash" I knew Vince was back. He's the only fucking idiot that thinks that is a good name for a PLE. Trips cut the Wrestlemania part from the event name. None of the promo's included it and none of talent referred to it as such till last night.
he likes events with first names, but not wrestlers. I'm guessing they couldn't fix Riddle's titantron in time to get rid of the Matt.
Lost me here. I think you're a sharp dude, and didn't put this out there until it seems he isn't coming to WWE. I think if he debuted, it would've been in front of that crowd last night. Nobody has been clamoring for Juice Robinson, outside of Toni Storm. AJ and Kenny are generational talents, I'm not trying to compare anybody to them. I don't think that's fair. But White is absolutely in the same tier as Balor. I liked him a lot, thought his NXT run was spectacular. His run on the main card could've been great, but was derailed by that injury after he won the Universal Title. Since then, it's been pretty meh. I'm as excited about Switchblade as I've been about any free agent in a while. Let's see how well he's used before we cast judgment one way or the other. The guy just main evented WK vs Okada. Lots of people who matter in the business seem to hold him in high regard.
I enjoy White's persona and think he talks well enough to do fine here, would definitely be better served going to AEW at least initially
You have it backwards, if I say "____ is over-pushed, he's actually pretty mid" and then that wrestler consistently puts up disappointing quarter numbers, I'd feel pretty justified in my opinion that he isn't worth the hype. When Orange Cassidy (someone I don't care that much for) does better numbers than most of his peers week to week, I can't say Tony Khan is an idiot for giving him lots of screen time, the proof is in the pudding. World champions have always been judged historically by what they do for business while on top, there's a reason everybody talked shit about Diesel being the lowest drawing WWF champion of all time. You're frequently lost, so no surprise there
every Jungle Boy promo where the crowd is mild until he calls someone a pussy or a POS. He was getting "what" chants in the promo with MJF until he did that. Once they announced that Ricky Starks vs Juice Robinson match was gonna be on Dynamite and not something they're building towards the PPV for, it made it seem like it was just a setup for Jay White to come in and be the "real" opponent for Ricky
MJF and Jericho have been the only AEW talents on the mic that have grabbed my attention. Although wasn’t watching much of the shows I could be missing a lot like I didn’t see Punk’s promos with the company. I do know I don’t enjoy Starks but many others seem to.
I never saw Jay White as a viable WWE guy anyways. None of the casuals who watch WWE have any idea who he is. I don't even know that he has a huge fanbase among big wrestling fans in the states since he spent 5 minutes in ROH and was in Bullet Club post-relevancy after Finn, AJ, and Omega had moved on.
It's fine if we don't have the same opinion on White. You're entitled to whatever you feel about him and I wouldn't say your wrong. I bet you consume way more NJPW then I do. I catch the big buzz matches and promos and nothing else. So you may have a better picture on his talent. I'm giving my opinion on the little I've seen and he doesn't hit the same as AJ, Kenny or Balor. That's not to say his presentation in AEW or WWE wont be improved and he wont win me over. I don't think he's trash. Also I haven't chimed in prior to today on him because the only person who constantly speaks about White and where he will or wont debut is Shawn. And over the last 6-8 weeks I've tried to avoid having conversations with him over topics we disagree on because this thread has complained enough about me. Today we got multiple people discussing him so I gave me opinion. This isn't a AEW or WWE thing we don't know where he's debuting and we don't know when. Maybe he was scheduled to debut last night and Vince tore it up... we don't know. Clearly he's a good act and clearly NJPW felt he was worthy of slotting into Kenny's role as the American speaking top act. He's clearly a talent.
That's a perfect example. I watched that pillar promo a few weeks ago and saw 3 talents who need a ton of work on the mic. The only reactions any of them got is when they went way inside baseball about MJF or cursing at him. You had three guys all complaining and telling the same fucking "ive earned my way and been overlooked" promo, I have no idea why Sammy is cutting a sympathy promo as he's been a heel and he's not going to be cheered going in a match that includes Jungle Boy and Darby. People were itt loving that segment but I didn't post because I was going to be considered a AEW hater. I will say all three of those guys are better than Yuta or Garcia that TK gave a shot to but I would like them to improve and get away from that indy crutch of a promo.
I actually think Garcia is a better promo than Jungle Boy or Sammy, he seems more comfortable on the mic now than both and his voice/accent makes him sound better than both of those guys. It’s a shame he’s so small because I actually see signs of improvement from him overall compared to bland ass Yuta.
They have great promo guys... I get trying to develop acts so I think its fine TK is putting them in this position. Sink or Swim...
Jungle Boy (et al) are raw talents, so I'm not surprised they're struggling on the mic. Not everyone can be Jericho circa 1998 (who wasn't really green then either, but whatever). I think the AEW Galaxy () has given them plenty of grace while they hone and develop. You'll get some "what" chants every now and then, but that's the nature of the beast. I'd much rather have good young talent that's getting better being given the chance to improve, than having nothing but old washed up retreads like TNA had in its heyday. AEW is going through growing pains, and that's fine. The newness has worn off and they haven't yet been around long enough to entrench themselves. Turner seems content to get them there, though, so that's good.
She might be the smartest worker in the industry today, go on hiatus for a while, come back and win the belt, rinse and repeat. Her and Brock must've compared notes
There doesn’t really seem anything for her to do (based on her current stature) from a creative standpoint of she’s not going to win against Rhonda especially after getting beat clean.
Trend being referred to is all the Vince bullshit Keep in mind a bunch of wrestlers signed five year deals in 2019 to prevent them going to AEW…
I don't doubt people were upset with how the last two nights went, but all these Vince stories about talent being upset with him back are such low hanging fruit guaranteed to get clicks for the dirt sheets that I have to roll my eyes a little bit. like WWE isn't granting anyone at the top of the card their release so they can run to AEW as soon as their noncompete runs out.
WWE's history, grandeur, and built-in audience is wasted on Vince McMahon. He was preferable to Ted Turner and co. back in 2002, but that doesn't mean he's the right guy to be the custodian of 75% of North American wrestling's past and present.
