Finished it last night absolutely loved it. On a side note my brother is a show fag and I use my knowledge of the books to make him pay for golfin trips
Thoughts after reading through 60% of the book: Spoiler I was pissed at Jon for bouncing on the wildlings. I thought he should have waited to sell them out at a later time, but obviously we'll see what happens. I was also hoping he would cross paths with Bran. Expanding on that, I'm ready for some of the characters to meet up with each other. It seems like everyone is on the move right now. Arya has been on the move since the end of book 1. Same with Robb and Catelyn. Jaime has been on the move for a while now. It's become hard to keep track of where everyone is and who they're with. It seems like Arya and Catelyn are about to meet up with each other (since the Hound is taking her to the Twins), so hopefully that storyline will resolve itself. My favorite points of view are Tyrion and Sansa because they're the only ones set in place it seems. Dany has turned in to an evil bitch in this book. I love it.
You know you're posting in a thread for people that have read the book? No need for spoilers and I also wouldn't read anything in this thread
I spoilered in case some new bookfag comes in to this thread and doesn't get part of the book ruined.
What is the significance of Mero? I don't remember anything about him until he showed up trying to kill Dany.
Just that he was fucked up in Astapor and then followed them. More importantly it outed who Whitebeard was and that whole storyline.
This. Also, he's playing the game and he considers her to be a piece. He can solidify an alliance with another great house by marrying her off.
Makes sense, and I know Theon Greyjoy was also thrown out there as a potential husband. Just seemed like overkill in terms of aligning houses since there was already a Lannister in Dorne.
Starting my first read through now. I'm all about the huge twist/death whatever that happens in this book.
Where can I read up on the Azor Azhai prophecy without spoilers through book 3? The Prince that was Promised references ITT went straight over my head.
For future reference, towerofthehand.com has a setting for you to indicate which book you are on, so you don't get spoiled. Some of the comments on the articles can contain spoilers, though, but they're at the bottom of the page and you just need to be careful. Here's an article that discusses all of the prophecies. http://towerofthehand.com/essays/chrisholden/prophecies.html Westeros.org also has an index of all the prophecies. http://www.westeros.org/Citadel/Prophecies/Category/C140/
these new bookfags are much more jaded than I was. I was so emotionally invested I fell for Martin's tricks every time initially. I think some of them are helped by hints people are giving them as well though.
No doubt. I stopped reading for a couple of days after the red wedding, just got pissed when I would thunk about picking up the book. I know LT8 threw his book across the room
Finished the book a couple of days ago. Was blown away by the last ~200-300 pages. Biggest concern going forward is that all of these extreme plot twists don't become the norm. Hasn't been mentioned too much in here, but I am very excited to see how the Arya storyline plays out when she reunites with a man. I think I may be a little too wrapped up in these books when the only headline on drudge that catches my attention is this: 'Wolf-dog' on the loose in Philly... http://www.philly.com/philly/news/breaking/20120626_Wolf_dog_still_roaming_city_park.html
