She’s got one of the best pure voices in recent memory for me, just stunning the levels she gets to vocally. Well on her way to being a big ol’ pop star.
I think he was on American Idol or something first. Covered an Isbell song and became more popular then rocked the kids socks off with shitty bro-country.
FWIW he was on the Voice. I actually listened to an NPR pop culture podcast about his meteoric rise and they basically attributed it to him doing bro-country over trap beats so the white youths love him. basic cultural appropriation.
always get fomo this time of year being an Apple Music subscriber. mine would be all jacked up frozen soundtrack indie bands from SC mj lenderman frozen two soundtrack steely dan
The woke mob got him canceled. Use of racial slur[edit] On February 2, 2021, TMZ released a video recorded on January 31 showing Wallen using the racial slur "nigger".[41][42] He issued a statement shortly after and apologized.[43] Several radio stations temporarily removed Wallen's music from airplay on their stations, and his songs were removed from Apple Music, Pandora and Spotify featured playlists.[44][45] CMT and the Country Music Association removed Wallen's appearances from their platforms, and his record label Big Loud (and partner Republic Records) suspended its recording contract with him indefinitely.[46][47] The Academy of Country Music announced that Wallen and the album Dangerous: The Double Album would be ineligible for the 56th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.[48][49] On February 10, Wallen shot an apology video in which he asked his fans not to defend him.[50]
I’m pretty sure Isbell takes the royalties he makes off of “cover me up” and donates them to black charities in Nashville. Pretty cool
Seems Bandcamp is the only streaming platform that is good to artists and even they've been purchased by a big bad corporation recently Hard to be a conscious consumer in the US these days!
people that bought Bandcamp are laying people off like crazy too I make the odd purchase on there’s from time to time but it’s a sinking ship now
I paid the artist friendly tier for Tidal for a year, but it was regularly unusable for me. I’ve gone back to Spotify, but I purchase physical copies of the albums I listen to (usually vinyl) to support the artists. Hope that makes up for it some.
Spotify seems to be suggesting I wander the streets of Asheville, NC asking people if they want to listen to music with me. Top .5% Built To Spill fan.
Most of my listening is live stuff outside of Spotify. 22 genres and 640 artists. Some of the genre definitions are BS I think. Town was Bozeman, MN. Top 5 songs were all from one album I’ve had on repeat. Might be right but seems suspect.
y’all are getting racially profiled by the algorithm oh you spent 1000 hours listening to The National and Sufjan Stevens? hmmmmm….. Burlington Vermont, cracker.
hmmmm… jackonsville by way of alabama. the algo is also telling me you sell mortgages and live in a gated community.
Gotta be the only person with Freed From Desire, King of Oklahoma, and Hakuna Matata in my top five. Built different some might say.
Interesting spread. I don't listen to near as much music as I used to, so I don't have to listen to anything a ton for it to make my top.
Mine is weird because only 83 songs and 500ish hours. We use the gfs on car rides and road trips and such, so I warped her wrapped. My top 5 were: Ween Steely Dan Dean Ween Group Meat Puppets Frank Zappa Hers ended up being close to both of ours but I think she's a little miffed.
