No way they could've pulled Drew or May. You don't go from offering 4 million to 2.3 million

 

That would be near the bottom for the B12 (only above UCF). DeVries starts off at 2.8 with 100k annual raise. Plus he has a bunch of bonuses that are easy to hit (academics, ticket sales). That's right at the average for recent B12 hires (avg is 2.9). Overall average is 3.2 but that includes Self (9.6), Drew (5.1) and our interim at 1.5.

They still owe Mack about a million and Payne 8 million

 

Is your opinion that they should have paid him more because? That was the guy who took the job. Just because they paid him 2.3 doesn’t mean they wouldn’t have gone higher for a more accomplished coach.

 

Then don't expect him to be loyal to you if he succeeds and has other options down the road

Think you underestimate how being competent at a lower tier program with a perception you can recruit will set a dude up for life. Unless there's a Brad Stevens type ultimately no one has a clue, Billy Donovan was at Marshall 2 years before UF and went 35-20 with zero postseason appearances. If you aren't a blue blood type program you're just ultimately rolling the dice.

We vetted him early. He was only coming back for the right job and he didn't want to be in the spotlight. The whole UL shit show/fbi situation probably scarred him

Probably shouldn't have to. Kelsey went from Winthrop to Louisville in 2 years. Probably gets a call at Cincy if/when they fire Miller.

 

It's probably much less of a grind at Charleston than it would be at a bigger school

I like him a lot, but very happy with Devries. He was never considered. Probably because its a huge jump going from D2 to the B12.

 

He made 1 tournament in 7 seasons and that was the year with Cade. That was also the only winning conference record they had.
