Yes http://www.jeepforum.com/ Lots of info, good search engine, plenty of tips and tricks and no need to be a member to look at most things
No expert but I would imagine putting a 305 or a 350 in there would be extra work/money if you wanted it done right. Like new axels, motor mounts, rear end, transmission adapter, computer etc due to all the extra hp and torque especially if you're gonna off road. On the other hand if I were going to put time and money into an engine swap I would make it worthwhile and put in a V8. Tons of write-ups and conversion kits out there.
I always read that the Vortec 5.3 is the most common swap, even moving to the 4.0 is a major pain with a power gain that isn't worth the time. Have you done an engine swap before?
Stock axels, transfer case and rear end will hold up fine. You can also skip all the electronic b.s. with a carb, but I would only do that in a state that doesn't have strict emission laws. Honestly, unless you're building a hardcore off-road Jeep, I think the novelty of a V8 is going to wear out fairly quickly, especially if it's your daily driver. Gas mileage is bad enough stock, it will get straight awful with a V8. Trust me, I had one....
i will never take mine off road, i just wanna put a 2-3 inch lift and 33's and be able to drive it ion the freeway to work and the lake. maybe pull a ski boat. My couson who is doing the work seems to think the 3800 will be the easiest switch lining up
Sounds very similar to me. I do some off-roading, nothing hard core though. I have a YJ with 33's and a 4 inch suspension lift, stock drivetrain with the 4.2L straight 6, it is more than enough. I've done/am doing a few simple engine mods, and i am much happier now than I was with the 350. Those 6's have plenty of torque, and now I'm getting 20-23 highway mpg's instead of 10-12. Here is a thread on Jeep Forum where a guy swapped his 2.5 for a 4.0: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/2-5-4-0-swap-underway-576008/ Also, here is a TJ FAQ section: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/tj-forum-faq-615132/ I'm telling you, that site is great source for info, and is easy to search, you just have to filter through some of the crap (like most things) If you're not married to your Jeep, the absolute easiest thing to do would be to sell it and buy one that already has the 4.0 in it. An engine swap is going to be a pain in the ass, plain and simple. Nothing will be "straight forward", even for a mechanic.
Have we talked about the 2005 "Saharicons"? If not, here's a summary: http://www.rubiconsahara.com/ In 2005, Paramount released the movie Sahara which featured a Jeep Wrangler. As a way to build off the success of the movie, Jeep released a limited production Sahara Edition Rubicon. Only 1000 were produced and each one is numbered. All of them are visually identical, but some were offered in a manual and others an automatic. They are all Light Khaki Unlimiteds. Trim differences over the standard Rubicon include chrome grill, color matched flares, dual tops, Graphite Moab wheels, a Sahara spare tire cover, upgraded seats, Sahara decals, tail light guards, and a numbered dash badge. I've been looking for #12 of 1000 for about 5 years now. I was looking for that Jeep when I found my TJ. I've periodically looked for it even after I bought mine. This weekend I came across this : http://www.wranglerforum.com/f282/2005-rubicon-sahara-1004105.html. I ran the VIN through vin decoder and it is indeed an Unlimited Sahara Rubicon (Sahricon). This lucky ass mf'er. Thought they were buying an Unlimited Rubicon (roughly $16k) and found out they actually have a Saharicon ($24k~). Granted the badging is gone and they made so few Saharicons that the badging isn't readily available, especially the dash piece with the # on it, but still. I have PM'd them on that site and am trying to track down an email address for them to put in an offer on it. No clue what condition it's in or if it has the original wheels or top or anything. I want that fucking Jeep, though. That's literally the Holy Grail Jeep for me. I'd buy it, restore, put it in the garage, and drive it a couple times a year. I'm able to get in contact with them and they are willing to sell this one at a profit. Fafa fofo
And agreed to buy this today. Plan on picking it up Monday. Almost went black on black but I love the baby blue and saddle brown. Has the V8 HEMI too.
SRT would be awesome to drive but I don't like the interior as much. Not a fan of the crushed velvet in the middle of the seats. Past years they've had ground effects on them too. Hated that. I think they look like a normal GC now though. Just with a monster under the hood.
Was it your daily driver? Having a Wrangler as my primary source of transport would get old fast. Love it as a weekend/change of pace vehicle though.
Yea. I only drive 5 miles to work so it wasn't bad at all. I had no payment on it so I was able to divert those funds to lifting it and other fun shit on it. I love driving it but putting miles on it daily is going to kill her. I bought her with 38k miles on her. Now she has 100k. I want her to live a long life so she needs to move to weekend use. Maybe Friday use if it's sunny. Basically I got the GC so I don't kill my TJ bc I love my TJ more than anything but my dog. Fafa fofo can confirm.
One of the things I like the most about having a Wrangler as a weekend driver is being able to leave the top off from spring to late fall. I keep a bikini top in the back in case I get caught by some rain.
I wouldn't say avoid, but the 4 doors from 2007-2011 are a bit under powered. They have a 209hp engine, which works fine for the 2 door, but not so much for the 4 door bc it's so much heavier. They changed the engine in the 2 and 4 door in 2012 to the current 209hp engine and it handles the weight much better.
Happens when you get laid off 4 days after the purchase. But sorry none the less. Here she is. Just kidding. But that's what she wants to become. Here she is:
Nah Im in AZ. I'm from GA originally tho. Don't you have AEV down in Jax? Can verify. My 2010's motor was horrible, made even worse with 35's. The newer motors are smaller but put out 70 more hp i believe. My Rubicon weighs 5700b by the way vs 2700 for my 2010.
I'll say this, I have a 2011 JK 4-dr and the engine with the stock tires was terrible. So much torque in first gear that you could go from stopped to 25-30 in second. You hit 3rd and it was like someone took the air out of the sails. I put the 33's on and it's like a different car. Torque is perfect for the setup I have. I can see how it'd be low for 35's tho.
That happened Thursday. Stopped by my wife's office and waited on her for a minute. When I went from park to drive it wouldn't engage. RPM's would go up but Jeep wouldn't move. I knew I had tranny problems for a while but it finally took a dump. Gears didn't shred and make an awful sound so hoping it's just the clutch. We'll see. It's almost like she knew I was picking up the Cherokee today and retiring her so she said fuck it and quit a day early. God bless that old girl.
So much for Jeep right now. As I posted a while back, I recently bought a Grand Cherokee Overland Summit. It has the brown leather dash. Up at the front where the dash meets the windshield, it has started to come up from the dash and created a seam at the front. When I bought it, I thought the warranty was bumper to bumper for 5/60 so I could get it fixed. I later found out it was 3/36. Mine was made in March 2012 and had 39k miles on it when I bought it. I was 6 months and 3k miles out of warranty. I stopped by the dealer and they told me to kick rocks. Bastards. I went on JeepForum.com and saw a few threads about the dash issue. Some dealers had fixed it, some hadn't. I made a post about being one of the unlucky ones bc my dealer refused it. A couple hours later I got a text from the handle "JeepCares" on there. It was a guy named Ryan that works for Jeep. His job is to troll that board and help out unhappy customers. Over the last 3 weeks, he's gone back and forth between the dealer, Jeep, and I. He let me know this morning that Jeep had agreed to pick up the tab for a new dash ($2500). I only have to pick up a $200 deductible. There's good customer service, and then there's this. I am amazed that a Jeep employee found me on a message board and is now getting this covered out of warranty. This is my dash now:
that's good to hear but I wasn't so lucky with their customer service. It took me two hours on the phone to get them to provide me a rental car when they replaced my cylinder head. And that was a manufacturers recall and I was still under the 3/36k warranty.

Yea I didn't get a rental when I took mine in for recalls and I won't have one when they fix the dash. My local dealer blows ass. Thankfully Jeep stepped in on my dash.
Having an issue with the brakes. Or more specifically, the driver's side rear brake. Every once in a while, it locks up and/or sticks. We've replaced the calipers, pads, rotors, and a few other items. I have no idea why it's occurring, nor why there is no rhyme or reason behind when it happens. Any suggestions? I've looked a few things up online but we've tried all the solutions.
Good deal if you're looking for an LED light bar and aux lights http://www.bestledsforless.com/jeep-jk-pack-3-07-2015-52-light-bar-2-pods-and-all-brackets/
How good are those LEDs? Obviously they're not Rigid but wonder if they're the Chinese ones that are sold on Ebay.
Had my first issue this weekend. Jeep stalled in neutral when shifting to 4L and had to get towed out. Fortunately it was still under warranty (2014 Rubicon ~17.5k) but still annoying.
Went by jeep dealer which happens to be an AEV dealer. They had two that were awesome until I saw the 75k sticker. I could build a much more badass jeep for 35k over cost.
