Holy fuck I just read the last of that chapter. Bitch deserved it. And that's the book. Holy shit. And that's the book. Wow. Just wow. I think my favorite characters right now are the hound, bronn and Tyrion.
Happy to finally be able to read this thread. Hope my diary thread brought some good reactions. Still deciding if I should continue with AFFC. If people are interested I will, if not, I'll just save my thoughts for it for the whole book when I'm finished. Gave my thoughts in my thread, but absolutely loved this one. Was accidentally spoiled on Joffrey dying :/ But still enjoyed the hell out of that. Red Wedding caught me off guard completely. Had to re-read the last few paragraphs a few times. Damn. Ending was crazy as well. Really hope with two seasons/20 episodes, and thus a bigger budget, that HBO can do this book justice. Lots of awesome stuff throughout. Starting AFFC tomorrow after work.
Reading through ASOS for the 2nd time. Dammit if robb would have just payed attention to his fucking wolf.
User OHW is getting close to the Red Wedding. Texted me a half hour ago saying he has a bad feeling. Was reading a Catelyn chapter.
And now just posted in the Husker thread that he thinks Arya will die soon. Senses dread coming in the book. He's going to be heartbroken.
so i talked my friend into reading the series (and i am re reading). he got to the red wedding last night and here are the texts he sent me: it was after midnight so i really didnt respond much, hopefully he will send me some more reactions today
haha. That's almost as funny as 'HOT PIE! HOT PIE!' I wish people yelled battle cries now. These days this is the closest it gets
Absolutely will once he reads it. He's been posting a few thoughts here and there in the Husker thread.
From user OHW: I don't even wanna read anymore. Robb? ROBB!?!?!? FFFFFffffuuuuu. Basically the only hope House Stark has of remaining a house is Rickon, who's wandering around in the damn wild. If Jon Snow is legitimized, will he become a Stark? Lord Jon Stark of Winterfell and Lady Ygritte? FUCK.
What's great is that he was texting me as he read the book. Felt something bad was coming, but never mentioned Robb. Completely caught him off guard, as it did me.
Peoples reactions are the only good thing to come from the red wedding. Oh and no more internal monologues from Cat.
Oh, hey, my post is being discussed ITT? I just finished ASOS. The only good thing I thought to have come from The Red Wedding was no more Cat... then I read the epilogue. My reaction:
Figured I would put this here my brother is almost done with AGOT and is a chapter before Dany hatches the dragons. Anyways talking to him and asked him what he thought about Ned dying and he was surprised on how things went down. Next he goes Robb better not be killed off. I kept a straight face and thought this fucker has no clue. Can't wait to see his reaction to the RW. He's also a bookfag as he hasn't seen the show.
finally finished this book, man i stopped reading for like 3 days after the rw. stupid fucking frey's. then i realize i no longer have to read catelyns pov again only to find out in the epilogue that shes still alive.
i hope the hound survives, him and arya in the inn were awesome together. pretty excited to see what happens with arya and dany
Reading through the series for the second time and I'm almost to the Red Wedding. It's crazy how much more I've picked up on reading the books a second time.
I posted this is the Season 3 thread, but guessing the fight should probably go in here. Sounds like it could be the Hound and Dondarrion off the top of my head. zeberdee who were you thinking?
the part about it being more verbal makes me think them. I would be a little upset if beric and the hound don't fight in the hallowed hill.
Just finished the red wedding and arya's chapter after. Couldn't sleep, woke up at 3 am and read until it was time to go to work.
scene where the wights and others storm the fist and Sam kills the other with the dragon glass dagger is absolutely incredible. One of my favorite scenes up to that point in the series.
Filming rumors and reports: Taylor is in By Ours is the Fury on October 3, 2012 Filed Under: Casting, Filming, Rumors Season three production is rolling along this month, with filming in Croatia and Northern Ireland happening simultaneously for the last week. The schedule should get even more hectic when Game of Thrones arrives in Morocco to begin shooting on October 13th. With all this activity, some interesting sightings and rumors have surfaced. There are spoilers in some of these rumors, but those will all be placed beneath the cut. The most interesting report comes from two WiC sources, who confirm that Noah Taylor has been cast as Locke. The character Locke is described as filling a similar function to the mercenary leader Vargo Hoat in the A Song of Ice and Fire books, but does not have Vargo’s memorable lisp. Locke will play a key role in Jaime and Brienne’s story next season. We’ve heard that we will see the character of Steelshanks, albeit in a small role. Steelshanks also plays a part in Jaime Lannister’s journey. At least one scene with Aidan Gillen has been filmed in Littlefinger’s brothel. Dame Diana Rigg has been in Dubrovnik, according to the tweet of actor Will Rastall. Rastall is playing a Server. It sounds like the Queen of Thorns was filmed in the gardens of the Trsteno Arboretum, based on the timing. Two photos, from different angles, were snapped of the same set in Northern Ireland, near the biking trail referred to as the Lead Mines, in County Down. Some have speculated that the broken windmill may be part of the set used for the ruined town of Maidenpool. *There will be detailed spoilers for season three/A Storm of Swords beneath the Read More cut, so proceed with caution!* The bear pit scene from the third book has been filmed. Noah Taylor was present for this, as was Nikolaj Coster-Waldau wearing a bandage-style sleeve over his lower arm to convey that Jaime’s lost his hand. It appears that the removal of the sword hand occurred before the bear pit, as in the book. One source reports that a scene has been filmed where Edmure reveals Robb’s battle plans to some northern lords in order to impress them. This makes Robb and the Blackfish very angry, and they confront Edmure about it at Riverrun. Ours is the Fury: I’m not quite sure what to make of the last item. It’s possible that the scene is new, or was a misunderstanding of the incident from A Clash of Kings where Edmure accidentally wrecks Robb’s plan to trap the Lannister forces after they crossed the river. As for Noah Taylor’s character, I wonder if they decided to rename Vargo Hoat after his lisp was lost and if back story details were eliminated or changed. The family name Locke is used by two minor characters in A Storm of Swords but neither has anything to do with Jaime and Brienne’s storyline, and so I think the show simply borrowed the last name. Pretty disappointing news about Vargo Hoat. I was really looking forward to see how the show would portray Hoat, and it looks like they won't even try.
You think they changed the way the Others look because it would have been impossible to depict them as they're described in the books. In the books, up until what I've read, they haven't been given a concrete description. We know that they have blue eyes, everything gets cold when they are around, and their coloration (or at least their outward armor's coloration) seems to rapidly shift colors.
they're described as having pale, milk colored skin and blue eyes. that's about it as far as the books are concerned.
books definitely describe their armor as shifting colors though. I think the Samwell chapters are absolutely fascinating because they involve wights and white walkers which are just really interesting to me. You hardly get any samwell chapters though, so I'm hopping maybe Jon or some of the other story lines include wights and white walkers.
cracked me up when stannis said this: Selyse: "No man may withstand him!" referring to the lord of light Stannis: "Be quiet woman. You are not a nightfire now." Stannis is just so blunt, and he always calls a spade a spade. Love it.
Kind of didn't like how the show made them...solid I guess. I always pictured them as physical beings but mystical and kind of hard to clearly perceive. The show just made them look like snow orcs or something. Kind of a let down
I agree. I think Martin was purposefully vague in his description of the Others as to increase the mystery and myth surrounding them. Also Samwell was stabbing at the wight with dragon glass when it came into the house in the abandoned village where he was sleeping with Craster's wife and her kid. He hit chain mail so the dagger broke, but I was never under the impression that obsidian would kill wights like it does white walkers. I'm sure this is something that will be cleared up anyways, but just a thought. Really want to know who came and rescued him on that giant moose or whatever it was. The Samwell chapters are too far and few between. You get an interesting as hell chapter, then have to wait 200 pages for another.
Just finished this book. ho-ly-shit. Might be the best one so far. Lots of big time plot twists Spoiler Just finished the epilogue-wtf catelyn is still alive but she's like a zombie version of herself. I can only guess that since she's with Dondarrion's gang that the priest brought her back to life like he brings the lightining lord back to life. Joff dead, Petry kills Lysa (which was crazy), Robb's dead, Prince of Dorne dies, all sorts of crazy shit happens. Love it. Already bought Feast for Crows. Jumping in right now.
I am in the middle of this book. Do the books pick up or does this book pick up? I am struggling to get thru some of these chapters.
