I feel like knowing what blood pressure is normal for you is something that happens before you leave high school.
I had an older famous college foosball player/ NFL player as a patient a few years ago. Put on the bp cuff and got 220/140-something. I asked if he was feeling okay and he said he felt fine. Did a manual and got the same thing. Sent him out immediately. Poor chap died recently
I used to go to a dentist that was a ways away from home, because he is a good friend. After an hour of rush hour traffic and coffee my blood pressure would be like 180 over 110. It is normally 110-70.
I imagine knowing the ranges could be weighted based on if you’ve ever had a non normal reading. I’m in my late 30’s and been to doctors 100’s of times due to a chronic issue. Today was the first time ever my bp was worth noting so now I know. Usually it goes like “110 over 70…so do you need any refills on your meds?”
Every time I get my blood pressure taken, they tell me what it is, I ask if that is good, they say yes, and I don't think about the entire concept of blood pressure again until the next time someone straps that thing on my arm. I couldn't tell you what my blood pressure is or what it is supposed to be, but I remember systolic and diastolic (thank you spell check) from high school though.
I learned recently that there’s something called white coat syndrome which basically is for people whose BP goes up just based on the fact they are in a doctors office getting their BP taken. Mine is measurably higher there than when I’m at home.
When I go to the grocery store my mind can’t get around how many chickens it took to be on sale in this one store between fresh and frozen chicken. Much less adding that to the grocery store down the street. Much less the restaurants in the area and then all the grocery stores in the city…state…. how are there that many chickens just to supply one day of Publix? I’m not high.
I get that, but it’s due to anxiety from the waiting room. They’ll take it, it’s high, I’ll meditate for one minute and have them check again and it will have dropped 10 points.
Hm. I’ve never been asked to meditate. They just come back in 10 minutes while I’m still anxious. But I measure it at home periodically and I’ve also worn a 24 hour monitor and yeah it’s like 20 points lower. And then even lower when sleeping.
My BP is so great. You wouldn't believe it. One time a strong young man in a lab coat came up to me with tears in his eyes and said "sir no one can believe how good your blood pressure is."
I guess that’s one of the benefits of a public school education in a free state: a basic understanding of general health-related things. I kid, I kid. Kinda.
Just had a convo w my mom where she requested that we create a little password phrase in case one of us gets a scam call w an AI voice modulator. as silly as it sounds - probably not the dumbest idea.
Also explained they needed quite a bit of voice samples to pull that off. Unless she has a podcast idk about - she’s probably safe.
He was found dead in his home. No foul play suspected and no autopsy. Well-known history of drug and alcohol abuse though. dude had tons of stories. Going to visit USC and OJ being his chaperone. Tony Dorsett at Pitt
I’m at my cousins wedding this weekend in the South Carolina low country. In true ridiculous southern white people fashion, it’s an outdoor black tie event in 85* heat with 90% humidity. I already sweat through my cocktail attire at the rehearsal dinner last night…what’s another 5lbs of water weight from this evening’s festivities.
i was aware of the distinction and still referred to all dress shirts at button-downs in general conversation, because most people aren’t. When speaking with people who know, I would use the correct nomenclature.
I’ve found that button-up makes sense to everybody and includes collars with buttons and collars without buttons.
