Nobody to trade back with unless the Raiders want to roll the dice on Spencer Rattler. Would be a good time to trade up and take Arnold.
5 picks before us and Arnold, Wiggins, McKinstry and DeJean are on the board. I'm at the point where I'm going to be far too upset if we don't end up with one of them.
I'm sure it's one of those we valued him much higher than a 24th pick grade so we are happy to do it to move up
The value we gave up is on par with what the chart said it should take to trade up to around 20. And if we would have done that, I would have been happy.
We'll probably trade down our 2nd rounder to pick another one back up. But even if we don't, we needed more top end guys especially on defense moreso than depth. So I'm cool with that
Considering the depth on this draft is lacking, I’m all for making the move we did. Arnold fits the bill of what we look for in a corner and the fact he fell is astounding.
I would trade our two next year to move up for he or Frazier. No idea if that gets any nibbles but that would be a great way to bridge the gap with the interior OL.
Assume that Holmes was happy to get either Arnold or Mitchell with that package earlier, but to Cowboys said yes. Or we sweetened what we were offering when Mitchell went.
I am so very happy about tonight. Sucks we only have 1 pick tomorrow, but at this point I really don't care what positions we take. I was terrified we wouldn't be able to land a CB who could at least be thrown in the mix and we drafted a guy who at least could have reasonably been believed to go in the top 15-18 picks. The rest is depth at this point. I kind of wonder if we end up double dipping in the secondary tomorrow and take a safety. We have literally zero depth there at the moment. Our only current back-up is Brandon Joseph, a practice squad guy who played 0 snaps as a rookie.
“I mean, I was calling late teens,” Holmes said Thursday night. “I was calling just trying to see. I didn’t think he was going to be there. … Really trying and thinking we were going to have to settle for a different player at a different position but still trade up. … Never thought he would be there, but we couldn’t be more thrilled.” lol I wanna know what they would have looked like now.
I'd guess the package we offered for late teens wasn't too different and no team bit on it until we did it. Maybe swap some late rd picks in and out. Which explains why they were willing to "overpay" because they'd trying that same package for a few picks.
I think it depends which wr are there when we picking. I'd still guess a trade down to maybe add an extra mid rd pick
Remaining picks: Round 2 (61) Round 5 (164) Round 6 (201, from Buccaneers) Round 6 (205) Round 7 (249) That’s not a ton of draft capital to move up. It would require one of next year’s day 2 picks and I’m not sure we should start giving those away as the roster gets more expensive. But aside from kicker, I’m also not sure what this roster can absorb in day 3 picks. Today might be about taking our medicine for all the moving up we’ve done the last couple years. And maybe tomorrow we can trade a 5 and 6 for a 2025 fourth rounder.
Look I love the Arnold pick but I always find these type of posts hilarious. Like we deciding if nfl teams had a good or bad pick based on how close they were to where the media thought they should go? Instead of judging the media members on how accurate their guesses are on what nfl teams with paid scouts actually did
I'd be really interested to see how the Lions draft room operates. I love that they always seem to have a coherent plan. They identify guys they want and will go up and get them and are willing to drop down when one of those guys isn't there instead of just picking the best available. Makes the draft pretty fun too because you never know when they are going up or down
It's cool seeing guys actually wanting to play here too. It also sounds like this was in the works going into the draft. Only need to watch first minute or so, Arnold was asked day before the draft if this was his favorite time being in Detroit and he said no, his favorite was his visit with the Lions.
Love doubling up, you guys got killed back there and absolutely trying not to have that happen again.
