I thought it was interesting that Ericsson and Grosjean had major roles in the show, yet it seemed they purposefully never mentioned their F1 careers. Had to be on purpose.
Only one championship, which is drivers. Teams are anywhere from 1 to 6 cars at points during the season, so a constructors isn’t feasible. Points are awarded all the way down, so unlike F1, where you finish in the back half of the field matters. Indy 500 pays double points Additionally Pole Award: 1 point Leading At Least One Lap: 1 point Most Laps Led: 2 points https://www.indycar.com/Fan-Info/INDYCAR-101/On-Track-Competition/Points-System They also do car points, but that really only matters to receive some extra cash each year for being in the top like 25 cars.
God damn, Dixon could do this shit until he’s 60. Was pulling hard for Colton to get him. Pretty good race overall.
Pretty blatant cheating by the ol’ captain During last weekend’s event in Long Beach, the series found the three cars from Team Penske were able to bypass that software restriction and use push-to-pass at any time. “During the Sunday, April 21 warmup session ahead of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, IndyCar discovered the team’s possible rules violation,” the series stated. “An extensive review of data from the race on the streets of St. Petersburg revealed that Team Penske manipulated the overtake system so that the No. 2, 3 and 12 cars had the ability to use Push to Pass on starts and restarts. According to the IndyCar rulebook, use of overtake is not available during championship races until the car reaches the alternate start-finish line. It was determined that the No. 2 and the No. 3 gained a competitive advantage by using Push to Pass on restarts while the No. 12 did not
Bro yapped in a big circle. Started out by saying yeah I knew I was pushing it and I know the rules. Then moved on to I had no idea until they announced it and I’m not a liar. Then tried to be like man I thought they just changed the rule without telling me. He knew, thought he got away with it. LMAO he crashed while I am typing this post they just played the whole conference on the practice broadcast
what is push to pass edit: so many questions why did that guy pit but they didn’t do anything to his car? Why do they have such small pit crews? Same guy pulled the tire off, put the new one on, then fastened There’s a guy named Sting Ray? Why did they spray the car with water during the pit stop?
Push to Pass is an electronically controlled temp horsepower boost. Each driver gets a limited allotment per race. They can use any time once it is enabled (unless you cheat, like Penske), in 20-second max bursts. Similar to DRS, but there are no zones or timing requirements. Not sure who you saw pitting - could have been a pass-through penalty (instead of a time penalty) or a fuel only stop that just didn’t get a good video shot? Pit crews are smaller because of the more live nature of pit lane and having a crew per car. Refueling also takes longer than tires, so they don’t need more manpower because it would just sit there waiting anyway. Sting Ray Robb is an Idaho Mega-Chud, sponsored by pray.com and he’s a terrible driver. They spray off any excess fuel that leaks for fire prevention

RACER has learned one entry was filed for the May 26 race with the intent of promoting both Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and former president Donald Trump on the car’s bodywork. According to the series, the request was denied. “IndyCar does not approve sponsorships associated with elected officials, candidates for political office or political action committees,” an IndyCar spokesperson told RACER.
This is some bullshit by McLaren. Related: you’ve got to put Tony Kanaan in the 6 for the 500, right? He’s been prepping to back up Larson anyway.
Started watching 100 days last night. I've never seen any of these races other than glancing at Indy 500 sometimes. Holy shit at the crashes at 2023 St. Petersburg!
Lots of wild stuff. Indianapolis especially. This video doesn’t even include the fatalities and paralyzations and such. I was sitting coming out of the next corner and saw the Conway crash (probably the one that sticks with me the most). This Dixon crash was directly in front of me.
Never seen a race there. This summary was fun and because of this thread I understood the jokes re stingray

Ferucci and Grosjean are in some beef ferucci made up in his own head. Fucking ferucci just running into dudes non stop.
Update ferucci retires the car because it developed a mechanical issue. Yeah, no shit, things break when you crash into people, fucko. anyway, tune in for a good last 20 laps. Nevermind Palou is checking out
There's something so, amateurish about these cars compared to F1. I remember the cars between the two series being more similar.
The car is 12 years old at this point with minimal updates. Literally everyone associated with the series is begging for a new car, which is slated for 2027. At least the got rid of the overreactionary rear pods. I also absolutely hate the speedway package. The rear wing is the worst. They also went with the aero screen instead of just a halo because of ovals, which also makes the car look stupid and also roasting hot inside. Also with the nature of the racing requires more robust build. An F1 car would come out of most of these races like 70% destroyed.
I believe CART cars actually out paced F1 but Tony George fucked that up and set Indy back after the split. I'll never forget the sound difference between the CART cars and the first gen "Indy" cars. CART had the high whine that just sounded fast, Indy sounded like over cranked lawn mowers.
The main issue with an IndyCar is that it’s developed heavily toward ovals. On road/street course races that require any sort of downforce to turn the car has zero aerodynamic grip. It’s an absolute rocketship in a straight line, but is so down in medium to low speed corners that it’s a massive net loss in time. COTA is our most recent apples to apples comparison with IndyCar record of 1:48.8 and 2023 F1 pole time 1:34.7 They also carry around features like weight jackers that are only practically useful on a super speedway. All that is why damper programs are the only way an indycar team can really gain an advantage with the car itself. Penske and CGR throw all of their cash at engineering shocks and springs to optimize ride heights, rebound, and creating mechanical grip. The floor is like the Williams from last year, and similarly that Williams killed the speed traps, but still was incredibly slow overall.
Lots of people are saying that the track record could fall in qualifying. 1996, Arie Luyendyk 1-Lap: 237.498 MPH 4-Lap avg: 236.986 MPH
