Everything about this sucks. Hopefully they can default merulo quickly and start again within 5 years
melting down because his model predicted a coin flip series for two evenly matched teams would be so on brand for the Leafs.
Eh. If local demand is really high then I think they can have priority. It’s not different than a lot of businesses that try to give priority to local communities for whatever local event or offer they have going on. outsiders can still buy them off stubhub or whatever
it says ticket transfers are disabled, and even if they could sell them that makes it even worse that you're only going to sell locally and then allow the local "fans" and ticket brokers to profit from it.
Hm. Not sure about the transfer thing. Didn’t think teams have that control. Maybe it’s disabled on the main platform? Ticket transfers are needed just to even share tickets in your party (ie. When I send a ticket to a friend who is sitting with us).
I know for the Flyers and Eagles everything is now through the Ticketmaster platform and if you sell your ticket on Stubhub they will give you a buyer email address and you have to go into the Ticketmaster portal and transfer your ticket to the buyer.
The local tickets only thing is nice until you’re the Canes and you realize most of the Raleigh suburbs are Rangers transplants.
I know they overrun lots of arenas, but even our normally non-confrontational broadcast team mentioned how many of them were at the last game. It’s very annoying.
so the idea is that the entire Coyotes roster moves to Salt Lake. But they'll give it a new name. and Meruelo sold the team to the people that own the Jazz ... but when NHL expands in a few years, he can buy back a franchise in Arizona again and call them the Coyotes? but get to take part in an expansion draft? how fucked
yeah but I don’t think he’ll be first in line for expansion teams but if/when they do expand he’ll be close to the top of the list unfortunately. It’s fucked up
correct. The way this works is that it is essentially a 3 way deal. The NHL is purchasing the hockey operations, players, front office, etc that from Meruelo for 1 billion dollars. The Arizona franchise, its logos, history, statistics, etc stays in Arizona and becomes an "inactive" franchise. The NHL has then flipped all of that to the Utah ownership as a "new franchise" that is essentially starting with a blank slate of history but has a ready made team. Ex. the leading scorer in Utah franchise history will be whoever scores the first goal next year. The sale is for 1.2 billion. 1 billion to payoff the deal with Muerelo and 200 million to be split by the other owners. Muerelo now has a 5 year window to build a suitable arena in Arizona and if he does, he will be able to re-activate the Coyotes franchise as an expansion team. It absolutely sucks for the fans in Arizona, but the odds that Murerelo fails in his bid to build a stadium is like 99%. I'd put the O/U at 8 years before the Coyotes franchise is back with a new ownership group. From what I am reading, there is no line for him. IF he builds an arena within 5 years, he gets the team back. (I would assume the expansion fee will be the billion he just sold the team for)
Well unfortunately for Arizona fans I hope he fails in his attempt. It’d be cool with someone else as the lead but he doesn’t deserve that. Or even better yet, I hope there’s no expansion any time soon. It’s not like any of the current cities are in jeopardy of losing their teams any time soon. Even the Ducks and Sharks had fairly decent attendance for as shitty as they’ve been
From reading between the lines, it seems like the NHL kind of poison pill'd Meruelo's ability to get the franchise back. This was the bone they threw him to get him to sell without him dragging the league to court and tying them up for years straight- but they're going to make it near impossible that he's ever an owner again.
This seems to be the case. The only person in the world who wants Meruelo to own Coyotes 2.0 is Meruelo. Everyone else is waiting for him to fuck up so they can start over with someone competent.
I’m fine with restricting who can buy tickets at first to the local markets. They should have first priority for the first couple days. After a certain time it should open up to other areas to buy. Anyone who buys tickets should be able to do what they please with them, blocking ticket transfers is ridiculous.
Yeah. With my family having Lightning ticket plans and myself having Gator season tickets, I looked forward to the tickets coming in the mail and seeing that seasons designs and the players featured for different games. Even the season ticket cards a few years ago were cool. I miss that.
Looking at a pick em I’m gonna do and assuming Vegas plays Edmonton, I think I have the exact same conference finals as last year. Only one I might switch are NYR and Carolina. 50/50 on that series. Out of any team in the west, Vegas still worries me the most
Nah if you want to sell them sell them back to the club at face value so someone else can get them. Let's go European
