Can’t be imminent without a shovel hitting the ground but yeah that would be absolutely brutal. Why Bowser seems focused on the Commies, I don’t know.
Bowser is completely fucking worthless, that's why. I told everyone who would listen not to vote for her, but people kept doing it, so here we are. Yeah, this is going to fucking crush downtown (and, of course, she's going to take it out on poor people, because that's what she does -- lines her pockets and bulldozes the homeless)
Given the loss of office workers and now the sports teams, downtown is going to need a significant overhaul. Like, a 10 or 15 year vision for the area is needed. Billions of dollars will need to be financed, otherwise downtown will look like Gary, Indiana in a few years. Lots of clear office buildings (and soon the FBI / Hoover building) that must go (or be converted to housing). Stupid to even think about trying to attract retail and dining down there -- not until there's thousands of more people living there. But Bowser can't lead this. She just can't.
Curious if DC does lose Wizards, what can go in its place? Chinatown has been in decline for a while but it’s still within walking distance from most of the city. Maybe another museum? Maybe get FBI building back? I’m not sure anything comes close.
Unfortunately, I’m fairly confident Lucas is just trying to get her beak wet. This is going to be such a disaster.
Agreed, it was always going to be a battle to get the rest of Virginia to foot the bill for Alexandria, but I still feel like this is just grandstanding to try to get some riders that have nothing to do with the stadium.
The Caps will do alright in Virginia given that a lot of their fans are suburban, but man, I can't see it working for the Wizards. Like, ain't no one from my neighborhood getting on the train or sitting in traffic for an hour+ to head to Virginia to see a team that's currently got 9 wins.
It’s hard enough to get there from, say, McLean, it’s going to be a nightmare for anyone in Maryland. And I think that goes for the Caps too, who are going to be kinda shitty and uninteresting for a couple years whenever Ovechkin retires.
Im so glad we don’t have to pretend that some poorly planned mixed use development taking over the city’s flagship arena is actually going to be a better use of that space.
and Virginia doesn’t have to pretend a hotel in Potomac Yard will sell out at $700+ a night while the arena hosts more events than Cap One ever has
Had a job right after college working front desk in CC where McCain and a shitload of politicians and high end people lived Didn’t make a ton but easy job
Need some casual restaurant recommendations for after a Nats game, doesn’t necessarily have to be close to the park or anything.
What's the group like/vibe you're going for? Would give different recommendations for a bachelor party, couple, family with young kids, taking the parents out to dinner, etc.
day game or night game? Night game you're going to be pretty limited, particularly during the week. Also, yeah, what's your group vibe?
Friday night game, 6:45p so prob done by 9:30-10p. Guy’s night, four of us all 35-40yo’s, looking for something chill/casual, maybe something with outdoor seating, rooftop bar, a beer garden, etc.? Like a relaxed bar with good food would be fine, main thing is we’re coming straight from the game and dont want to have to shower/change. We’re going to L’Ardente the next night, I love Italian and heard good things.
Salt Line or Bluejacket seems like the obvious play (admittedly you and 1000 others coming out of the game)
Yeah I’d second this. They’ll both be crowded postgame, but you may be able to make a reservation at Salt Line. Not sure about Bluejacket. Could also do Dacha which is a beer garden right near Salt Line and has decent food.
Gonna sound like a broken record with this recommendation but salt line is what you want. Especially since the weather is nice. It doesn’t miss
