I’m just waiting for it to hit theaters here (hoping its the screen unseen movie this week at my AMC tbh)
I actually saw Snack Shack here at some point last month and thought it was pretty good--seemed in line with the RT scores for it (75% critics, 88% audience)--it's something y'all here can check out on streaming later if you'd like. I saw it late on a friday afternoon and with only 5 other people in the theater, 4 of whom were sitting together, a younger couple and older couple, so had to ask if they knew someone in the film since they weren't really the people i was expecting to see when i noticed 4 seats together on the app when purchasing my ticket. They also clapped at the end, which stood out a bit, and turns out the older woman in the group was from one of the production companies for the film. That all said, some pretty funny lines and one of the actresses was fun to look at, worth checking out at some point.
I noticed it now being available on Netflix last night and think i need to give it another look; my first thought when seeing it last night was thinking that it was not as good as i was expecting/hoping when i saw it in the theaters a few years ago
Update: Saw The First Omen on Friday and it was ok, think i was just expecting a little more/better based on the surprising RT scores, while maybe seeing Immaculate recently with a sorta similar setting and storyline didn't help Also, saw Monkey Man yesterday and really enjoyed it, would definitely recommend that you all see it when you can (and probably my favorite option in theaters now, assuming you've already seen Dune 2). Oh, and my son and I did in fact see King Kong x Godzilla on Saturday afternoon and i thought it was pretty dumb but my son seemed to enjoy it, so still def worth it for me
i'm pretty hard on films and I liked it as did the wife. Great noir setting, Denzel was great, enjoyed how they unfolded the story, Rami Malek was great (really liked him in Oppenheimer), and for my money, nobody plays a better psycho than Jared Leto. Really liked the ending. Similar look to LA Confidential, but not as good. On a par with Man on Fire ...
Watched The Witch last night...am I missing something? Wanted to watch a highly rated horror movie, it had rave reviews, it just didn't do it for me.
Yeah, I remember thinking that when i left the theater, one of my buddies from college is a huge movie fan and even works in the industry and been involved with a couple horrors and he hyped it up to me beforehand. Yet, i also remember having a hard time understanding some of the characters, the dad in particular ;)
It was just boring. I remember checking and I was already an hour through the movie (only 1.5 hours long) and was like well is this it? That was pretty much it.
On a nice lil 2 week heater rn: Dune Part 2 70mm Cruising Perfect Days The Long Goodbye (rewatch) Irish Wish Mulholland Drive (rewatch) Le Samourai 4k restoration Body Double Badlands 35mm
I saw Ministry of Ungentlemenly Warfare early tonight. It opens on 4/19. Newest Guy Ritchie movie. If you like Guy Ritchie, you’ll like it if you like seeing Nazis killed, you’ll love it It does have a Inglorious Bastards vibe to it Henry Cavill is a master on the screen and very pleasant on the eyes. Eiza Gonzales tho It has Reacher in it as the main Nazi killing machine I also didnt know Cavill’s character was probably Fleming’s model for James Bond
Also saw Monkey Man last night I’d give it a 9/10. Idk what to give him yet but Dev Patel deserves something for this movie honestly. My sole complaint is that I wasn’t a big fan of the constant jumping back and forth on the timelines. I’ll probably see it again next week so hopefully that helps. If you love John Wick, you’ll love this movie but most importantly fuck Modi and I hope he burns in whatever hell he believes in or I hope he reincarnates into cow shit
The Witch is more anxiety inducing than pure terror. I can why people don’t like it. The fucking goat was the scariest character.
Seemed like he did about as well as could be done and he fit what the part was. It was just a bad movie imo
Last night I watched the movie written and directed by Elizabeth Hurley's son where she has a lesbian sex scene. It's so bad and awkward and I had a great time. It has more endings than Lord of the Rings though, it's like 40% endings.
My daughter and I watched The Holdovers Sunday and she told me she’s a foreign film kick. I’m gonna rent A Prophet tonight and watch it with her. Haven’t seen it in ages but that movie is definitely something she’s gonna love
Beautiful and realistic looking setting. Well acted. For a fantastical plot idea, the actions and decisions the characters made, made sense. No jump scares, but the tension, mystery, and dread for what was happening to the characters was constant. Cool critique of the devoutly religious. What was it that you didn’t like about it?
