I get you were a promoter of Liv golf itt, but how is it the right message? all they are saying is their major exemptions are running out. Everyone knew that would happen.
I’ve never been a promoter of LIV golf. LIV golf sucks. My point always was the PGA Tour was incredibly poorly run and did absolutely nothing to stop it when they had a million chances to do so. Jay Monahan basically asked for all of this. But golf sucks when the best players aren’t playing together. The ratings are showing that. Bryson is making extremely similar points to what Rory is currently making, albeit in his brutish Bryson way. A fragmented structure hurts the sport. And for as much as we all hate Bryson, Reid, Phil, etc for the decisions they made and the types of people they are, it’s extremely obvious that those guys playing with PGA Tour players again is going to drive ratings. The NLU guys admitted as much on their most recent pod. The PGA Tour being a chummy boys club where everyone is best friends doesn’t drive much interest. Animosity, rivalry, and heels do. See also - Iowa/LSU. Golf will be much better off when the sport is unified again. At which point people will look at Jay Monahan and ask “did we really need to go through all that to get here?”
I was chastised in this thread for making the same point and even tagged for several weeks by Gaknight But now that there’s an article about it I guess we can all think it’s okay
For months and months the golf media turned the whole thing into this black/white situation where you had to pick a side. And while one side is certainly better, the reality of the situation was never actually black and white. Now people are quickly realizing that Jay Monahan backed the Tour and the game of golf into a corner where partnering with atrocious human rights offenders is actually the best course of action for the future of the sport. It’s incredible he did such a shitty job that we got to this point. But that was also pretty obvious to a lot of folks when he spurned private equity money in the first place and created a sitting duck situation for the Tour. This was always inevitable the way he handled the situation early on. He deserves any and all criticism lobbed at him from all sides.
Jay and company clearly fumbled the situation and will go down in history as one of the woat sports commissioners. He clearly was ill equipped for the job. I keep coming back to the question of would a different commissioner have been able to convice the tour membership that massive change was needed, especially in a period where they were getting richer than ever and times were as good as they have ever been?
When the PGL came along and told Jay “I’m willing to triple what your players are currently making if you change the Tour”, two things became obvious - the players weren’t making their market value, and Jay needed to do everything in his power to figure out how to get them to making market value. Whether it was making that deal or trying to find another, action was required. For him to simply say no and not act at all, it created a sitting duck situation. At the very least, the players ears would’ve perked up if that original deal was brought to them. And some did hear about it (ie. Phil) and a mutiny was inevitable.
The Saudi shit is long sports washed by now, I'm much more uneasy about Norman, Phil, Sergio, etc's involvement in the sports future. Outside of the four major American team sports pretty much every sport is in bed with Saudi money. This was just last week in Miami
the PIF is working to basically buy tennis. That’s in the works now https://www.sportspromedia.com/news/atp-wta-tours-tennis-merger-offer-saudi-arabia-pif/
literally the next day I went to Roger Dunn and bought that big ass Odyssey putter that Rickie and Wyndham Clark use just to have something way different than what I already own (in my defense, I had about $100 in store credit to use) Today I made 4 birdies using that monstrosity. The lesson as always folks, to get better at golf just keep spending more money.
I bought the AI Smoke and I have last years Paradym that I like quite a bit. So yeah, I’m a big subscriber to this theory.
Maybe I bullied Spieth into not sucking at golf. *I fully expect him to be back in hell the rest of the day.
Golf is stupid. Shot 85 today because I couldn’t get out of greenside bunkers. Driver was on point, but clearly missed a few approaches that cost me 6 shots on the round. Clearly an equipment issue)-:
66 for the Shoemaker girl on the final day of the women’s amateur at Augusta is some serious golfing your ball
Got the df3 in a 35”, always had 34” and I actually really like this new length. I tend to leave putts short and the 35 felt more natural
I feel like Bhatia deserves to be at Augusta. Dude is going to have all the nerves in the world tomorrow.
Eagle today. Drove a par four. Sank a twenty foot putt. Hole is under repair. All four tee boxes were set up 260 out. lol.
My favorite things I’ve gotten in the past: Polo, quarter zip, hoodie, tee shirt (long or short sleeve), hat Rocks glasses, coffee mug, tervis, coasters, koozies f
Just saw a dude wearing a LIV Golf hoodie in the Charleston airport. First time seeing gear in the wild.
