Kultura - Philipino Ma'am Saab - Indian/Pakistani Lewis - Brisket Scott's - pulled pork Welton's - breakfast pastries Ordinary - Rum bar and oysters Darling - Oysters 167 Sushi on East Bay - Sushi - will most definitely need a reservation Malagon - Spanish/Tapas Maison or Brasserie La Banque - French
Vern’s is fantastic but pretty hard to get into last minute. The reservations fill up 30 days out when they open up.
I'm on my own so figured I could walk in and find a spot after 9 on a Sunday night. Is there bar seating? I've done the bar at Hall's so many times just trying to change it up.
I know your a gin guy but you need to go to the Establishment and get the Poet. The Poet high west double rye, balsamic vinegar, charred honey whiskey, thai basil
There is a bar but they don’t have full liquor if that’s a deal breaker for you. It’s all wine and low proof based cocktails. It’s worth a shot and is fantastic. At the worst it is a short walk up to King street and Halls or other options.
it's a 4.9 on Google and I read about it on some list of most iconic restaurants in the country. Is it bad?
It's the equivalent of a restaurant in Italy that has pictures on the menu. I'd advise that you avoid at all costs. Do you really want fried seafood or just seafood?
Can be hard to parse this from a tourist perspective in small destinations like Charleston so I don't fault anyone
i love this it's a fine restaurant. probably the best steakhouse you'll enjoy. it's the most overrated restaurant in charleston
We’re going to Charleston for the first time on 12/26 - 12/30. My wife’s pregnant so will be taking it easy for the most part. Is the grand bohemian a solid place to base up for a few days? Will catch up on this thread in due time for restaurants, areas to go, etc. to on the history side which is up my alley. I assume she will find a southern charm tour thing that she will go on so I’ll get drunk with any local TMBers
couldn't get hal's reservation so I'm probably eating at some combination of Darling oyster bar, The Ordinary, lewis bbq, Pink Bellies and Dave's.
lunch or dinner? edit: nm clearly dinner Go to Herd Provisions if you want a steak since you couldn't get into Hall's. tho tbqh i prever HP to Hall's
I went to graft wine bar and Vern's Sunday. I recommend both but I think Vern's is more of a cool local spot vibe.
If you want a change of venue from downtown Charleston then head out to Sullivan’s Island and eat at Obstinate Daughter for dinner or the OG Hometeam for lunch. Poe’s if you want a great burger. Just an alternative suggestion.
Edmund's Oast restaurant's shaved pork hoagie and curly fries is a godtier lunch you'll also want to sleep for 4hrs after eating it
Obstinate Daughter may be my favorite place in the Charleston area. They have a braised short rib ragu that is out of this world.
I wandered to a place called Bedford Falls. Ordered disco fries which are basically poutine. Fucking insanely good. Highly recommended to everyone. Edit: everyone around me appears to be having a horrible experience. So maybe just get the fries mimosas.
The blue crab dip at the Darling oyster bar was tremendous. ate at a french place called Felix yesterday. Pretty solid. Had a breakfast taco and peanut mocha from Baba's just now. Taco was great. Have a brunch reservation at Indaco later and a dinner reservation at Hal's that I may or may not make due to a family gathering. Enjoying the city.

I used to live on the corner of Bull and Rutledge and remember the benches at Cannon Park being under 3-4 of water whenever there was a heavy rain for a few hours. Can't imagine the flooding from this.
that's exactly where I was yesterday. Trying to get to a shop on market street. Some roads were fine and some had chest deep water and were obviously close. I saw the people with brooms trying to clear the drains. Had a hard time getting back to my hotel. Had some family staying on one of the islands and they were stuck.
I can’t imagine what Hugo was like. Yesterday was a 9.86 ft high tide. Hugo was a 12.52 ft high tide.
