i'd bet a good amount of money they definitely discussed it but didnt want the backlash since WB just got a ton of shit for it
Similar tangent but Zaslav seems like such a buffoon. Read a recent big profile on him. Just completely out of touch and seems obsessed with being around celebrities vs actually running a company
Speaking of completed movies not being released, did A24 throw Problemista into the metaphorical trash can? Was looking forward to that one before the strike(s).
I’m very bummed about the bikeriders. Chose to watch Perfect Days (which was awesome) instead of Bikeriders because I figured I’d see it in theaters in December. I think it got too much buzz at festivals to be scraped and I still hope it has a theater run but who knows when that will be. Also butler is going to be doing marketing for dune 2 so who knows what his bandwidth will be for this movie anyways. Hopefully he can put some words of encouragement for this movie while doing press for dune
They haven’t announced most of their 2024 release dates but I’d be shocked if they don’t give it a theater run
I don’t think it’ll be very good (or elite rather) but it’s a movie with a lot of star power behind it that should clearly be in theaters. There’s a void of adult dramas in current hollywood and this is a movie that fills that void
I know you’re not saying this, but I don’t want to further head down the road of finished movies having to be small-sample sized highly rated to actually get released widely instead of kept on a shelf. Imperfect but sincere and interesting movies are great. This very much seems like one of those.
For sure. I was more just saying that bc usually this happens to bad movies and a lot of people online kept quoting the RT score and not looking at the rating. I’m def not on the side of scrap it and write it off.
I watched The Killer last night and really dug it. Not surprising because its Fincher / Fassbender but it was captivating and quite funny.
Looks like next week will be Dream Scenario, Saltburn, and for shits and giggles and probably a palate cleanser for the other two movies Next Goal Wins
It was on my list but with the recent reviews and the fact that its 2.5 hours long ain’t nobody got time for that even with Vanessa Kirby
saw it yesterday. 7/10 Definitely different from what I expected. The 6 major battles they showed were cool though
the battle scenes were extremely well shot and orchestrated, but i thought the film as a whole was pretty awful
i thought it was fine and wouldnt discourage anyone from seeing it. there was a surprising amount of humor.
He was such a weird guy that it made for an uncomfortable watch. Battle scenes were cool at least. I didn’t need it but not gonna regret missing most of the last 2 nfl games watching it. You’d have to pay me to watch it again
Just finished Napoleon. I thought it was good. It certainly is not Gladiator classic level which I had my hopes up for with it being Ridley Scott Two of the battle scenes were stunning and a third was excellent. maybe I’m in the minority but the balance between satire, relationship with Josephine, and military career was a fuller story of Napoleon than just a linear re-telling of his military victories and defeats. ETA: I have seen some headlines it’s not that historically accurate so if components of the non military story are fictionalized that probably lessens it for me.
One I have heard is the age gap between Joaquin and Vanessa Kirby which Kirby is like 15 years younger than he is. Josephine was 6 years older than Napoleon and one of the bigger controversies was that she was literally too old to give him children and the movie totally ignores that because nobody would believe that due to them hiring someone like Kirby to play her.
I have no idea what I just watched but Nic Cage is the greatest actor alive also it makes sense that Ari Aster produced the movie
Currently watching the DVD extras for The Last Jedi. Half an hour in, it's horribly clear what a bad choice Rian Johnson was as director (and writer). I had no idea that Mark Hamill was so against the direction they took his character, but to his credit, he still went with it... even though he was proven completely right and Luke was just wasted in the movie. Perfectly decent director when he's in his wheelhouse, but Star Wars sure ain't it.
Like 30 years later and the scrawny kid from Little Giants still makes me guffaw every time I see him in gif form.
Recently watched: Old Boy - 10/10 Sicario - 7/10 Repo Man - 7/10 They Live - 6/10 Assault on Precinct 13 - 7/10 The Conversation - 9/10
Saltburn - 10/10 - Impeccable filmmaking. I am a changed man after this movie. Great casting. Barry Keoghan ate everything and left no crumbs. Best acting performance that I have ever seen. This is like what I think doing a line of coke feels like honestly
Also they showed a trailer for American Fiction before this and oh my god thats gonna be a great movie
December is going to be a fucking hectic month Elieen - Sexy Anne Hathaway Godzilla Minus One Silent Night - if you are interested in maybe the next John Wick Poor Things - Probably gonna be another great film of the year The Iron Claw American Fiction Ferrari Zone of Interest - If you like Nazi films The Color Purple remake And then if you want to watch terrible movies you have Wonka, Aquaman 2, Anyone But You, and The Bee Keeper And if you have kids you get Migration and The Boy and The Heron (new Studio Ghibli classic) Boys in the Boat (Clooney’s movie) and Origin (Ava Duvernay’s movie) also getting good reviews
I went to see it on the day of the national title game which i recorded. Did not realize the universal studios cinema had a bar and tvs so when i walked out of the film i saw georgia was up by a billion and could just delete the recording. Ty james cameron
Pretty fucked up we never got a John Woo Harper's Ferry movie https://www.latimes.com/entertainme...ollywood-silent-night-joel-kinnaman-interview
Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth star in Academy Award-winning mastermind George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” the much-anticipated return to the iconic dystopian world he created more than 30 years ago with the seminal “Mad Max” films. Miller now turns the page again with an all-new original, standalone action adventure that will reveal the origins of the powerhouse character from the multiple Oscar-winning global smash “Mad Max: Fury Road.” The new feature from Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures is produced by Miller and his longtime partner, Oscar-nominated producer Doug Mitchell (“Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Babe”), under their Australian-based Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner. As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home. Taylor-Joy stars in the title role, and along with Hemsworth, the film also stars Alyla Browne and Tom Burke.
