Got my annual season ticket waiting list card recently, if I haven’t died of old age I should get tix in about 20 years!
So pretty sure we have a quarterback which is awesome. So far I have only watched the 4th quarter of the game so a lot of what I read here is not what I saw there. Namely the defense facing Carr vs Jamies and the OL was fantastic in protection in the 4th.
yea the 2nd half was much better but the first half was just terrible. Love missed a couple, specially the ball to Musgrave on the cover 2 splitter up the middle of the field. AJ Dillon doesn’t have the juice to be anything more than a very short yardage guy.
I am starting to think that Jones is actually better in short yardage/goal to go. But I generally think it is a myth that big backs are best in those situations. Give me a quick back that hits the hole quick and low. Big backs are s half step behind and haven't gathered speed yet. Lacy is the extreme example of a big back that wasn't good in such situations.
Wasn't part of the fallout of the Seahawks losing that Super Bowl that Marshawn wasn't actually good in short yardage situations, despite being a power back?
He's good in November and December when Jones has already ground down the defense a bit and guys don't want to tackle him. He's an acceptable #2, but is at this point decidedly not someone that is the heir to #1 spot. Which is fine, but you prefer to get that out of a late round pick like Jamaal Williams.
Saw some replays from all 22 and the miss to Musgrave isn’t nearly as bad as I first thought. Love throws it when he is even with linebacker and anticipating Musgrave not flattening out his route. Musgrave is trying to give himself the most distance between the safeties. It kind of looks like more of a communication thing than anything, Aka, a product of having a rookie and first year starter. The most promising part is Musgrave IS ABSOLUTELY getting open 1-3 times a game deep because he is that level of a talent.
The thing I loved (no pun intended) about yesterday was these youngsters faced a real adversity and overcame it (not a single fucking player on offense was a second contract player yesterday! Seriously!!) There is going to be struggles, that’s literally expected, but the struggles haven’t been shit that isn’t correctable with time and more coaching. seriously, when I watch the Vikings or Bears compared to what I’m seeing with Green Bay it’s laughable how much better this team is projection wise for the future. also, Joe Barry still sucks and you can’t convince me otherwise at this point.
I hope it’s a keepers league because he is the first tight end Green Bay has had since Finley where I feel we have a mismatch on the field every single time. Kid can flat out fly for his size. He is going to be open a ton in flat and underneath because teams are going to have to decide if they want to take the chance of him burning them over the top.
Disagree on Dillon in one regard. He’s obviously one dimensional in that he’s not a threat like Jones in terms of the pass. Not many players in the are. That said felt like the play calling was still stale and predictable for the first three quarters of the game. Add in the last two of the falcons and just horrible offense all around. That said lots of stacked lines and pressed receivers. Have to open up the offense more to keep defenses honest. He can make the throws. He’s going to make mistakes but he needs to learn.
- pay Rashan, what an absolute animal. And on like 15 snaps a game too. - AJ Dillon seems like a real good dude but I’m fine with this being his last season with us - Love has impressive pocket awareness, especially considering he’s barely played. I think he’s the guy for the next 3-4 years at least. - the rookie K and P have been good! - Matt LaFleur can coach this team and call the offense for as long as he wants. MLF’s a top-tier play caller/designer. Really fun season so far
Another pick that was brilliantly planned that was so obvious at the time the logic yet was criticized
100%. I wasn't a fan of the pick at the time but man was I wrong. Van Ness has so many similarities to Gary too though maybe only a 90th percentile athlete instead of the absolute freak 99th percentile Gary.
I just remember when the structure of the contracts with the Smiths came out that they were in it for two years with them and then they could get out of it. They pushed those last few years with 12, but they did it wisely where they had outs and a future plan in place. If we are in the top half of the draft you can be certain that we will come away with an elite athlete at an elite position. I am guessing that we will see the same thing in a year or two with Preston/Van Ness.
What’s insane is he still is maybe the best left tackle in football when he is able to play. Unfortunately that’s not very often and you really can’t rely on him week-to-week.
